I got a call from an unknown number. The guy has a think accent and said I received $1000 dollars in grant money. When he asked me to deposit $300 for "security purposes" I knew this was a scam. He said his name was Chris L. Something. He gave me the contact number (202) 407-9787. And asked when I could get the money for "security purposes" I told him I don't have $300. He says well you can get it from your family this just made me furious. I told him I would get it within a week and hung up. It was so nosie in the background that I couldn't understand him even with his heavy accent. Thank God for the web, but these guys should not be doing such horrible scams.

I just got caught out there trying to be fast. my got a call and they said they had 15,000 for her. I was thirsty and said lets do it. I said I was going to check on line but just ran and did it. Then checked online and was reading about scams. Found out you didn't have to send no money. I got mad and called back and asked a bunch of questions. They gave me a website grants.gov to look at told me somebody will call me tomorrow and give me a tracking number for fed ex and then fed ex will call to get my address and the check and the money I sent will be handed to me. I feel so stupid . please what we have to do something about this.

yeah, i just got that same call, they used a different number, 202-407-9094, same name,ricky moore for $9000.00 dollars and said i had to call back with my money confirmation number,so i decided to go online and look what i find...i love the world of communication, i feel bad for the people who dont have access though...omg what a scam...

I received a call from this number saying they were from the US Department of Grants and that I had been picked to receive a $9000.00 dollar grant that I would never have to pay back. That the government had done a survey in my area last Dec. and I was picked to get this money. He proceeded to give me his name Ricky Moore ID # c3254. He told me I would need to go to either a western union or a money gram store and pay $230.00 to verify my Id. the money would be refunded with my $9000.00. I told him that I'm not supposed to have to pay to receive grant money, he kept telling me it is refunded when I get my money. I told him I was going to check this out through the FBI and he starting yelling that he was going to cancel my file. He got all kinds of upset. Beware scammers are on the lose. I also got a call from 203- 923-4781 that set up this call.

Well guys, it gets better.  They called yesterday (12/11/2013) and they have uped the stakes.  They were trying to convince me that the gov. had selected me, along with 1700 others from Texas, in a random selection.  They said the gov. had approved me to receive $9000 to be used for Education, Home Modifications, to pay Medical bills or any other outstanding debt I may have.  They said I could receive the money via...credit card deposit (Visa or MasterCard), direct deposit to my checking account, or cash lump sum.  Once I asked about a check via mail they said...sorry the government does not send out checks any longer but we can wire transfer the money via Western Union or MoneyGram.  So I asked a few more questions and they came up with this.  Once you get to the MoneyGram, you pay a mere $230 and then call our number and once we verify your deposit has been made we will send you the money... Be careful.  It's this scammers way to get your personal info.  I just hung up on them.  When have you heard of the Federal Government just giving away money?

Got the same call that everybody on this web site got and knew it was a scam the moment they wanted money to confirm who I am BUT, how the hell did they get my address?????? These people better know that I'm a firm believer in the second amendment of the constitution.

I got a call from them today and they told me that i will receive $9,000 on my debit card within 45 minutes then went  my wife went on here and found out it was a scam

I receive a call that I will receive nine thousand dollars on my debit card within 45 mins and then my wife checked it out and that's when I know it was a scam its so sad they are doing people like that

yeah they had my hopes all up I'm sad now I thought I was getting free money..

I just received a call from this number wanting to give me $9000 from a government grant program. All I would have to do is call "Ricky Moore" to give them a money confirmation number to then have a check released through Western Union at no charge to me at all. I told the guy it was a scam and with his heavy accent just kept repeating the same song and dance all over again. He told me to go visit the address at 200 Independence Ave. If I didn't believe him. I wished people like this would leave us hardworking Americans alone. SCAM SCAM SCAM!!

Yepp, I got the call from 202.923.4781 and was told I participated in a demographic survey, 1700 citizens were chosen to receive $9000, I had 3 choices how to get my money, bank deposit in 15-30 min, add to a credit card I have, or cash which would come tomorrow.  He asked my age, and my working status.  Very thick Indian accent, I was to call 202.407.9787 and give my ID award number.  FOOEY!!  What a scam, I told him on the phone, calls are from Connecticut.  

i just got a call from this number, i don't know why they try to make me seem like a stopit!!!!! they  said "you got $9000.00 dollar from us govt. grant department, now you need to pay by western union $230 for your verify your identification, I return ask them why I have to pay that much money and i have state ID and I think ID is enough for me for verify my identification. and i droop down that call.

As i know the US government is the number one government of the world, if they try to make scam by using the name of govt. department name, that'll be shame.

Smh yeah sound way to good to be true since when do people give  out free money.and for me to get my money I have to send some of my hard work money to them if they really want to identify your identity why not ask for 1 dollar or 2 why asking for $350...ridiculoussssssssssssss

Do these towelheads think I'm that stupid to send THEM money ($300+) so I can get my $9000 FREE US GOVERNMENT GRANT MONEY.  Why is the US GOVERNMENT having people from India call me and send out money for them.  I'm pretty sure the US GOVERNMENT TAKES our money BY AMERICANS and if they were ever going to GIVE money (which they aren't), that would be done BY AMERICANS, too.

I just received a call saying that they would send me 9000 from the government. That i needed to use the money to do home repairs and pay off debts. And since i haven't filed bankruptcy in the last 6 months I was approved. It was very convincing. I could hardly understand the lady cause of her accent. She gave me a number to call so that i could speak to her supervisor. Glad I decided to look up this information before calling it. Now I know that it is a scam. Thanks everyone for the information.

This is the number that they wanted me to call in order to talk to an "account manager" and claim a $9000 grant. I knew it was fake from the beginning, but I kept the lady talking. I figured that the more of her time that I wasted, the fewer people she could sucker and maybe she and the other scammers could get frustrated for once!
I mainly am posting this to let you know that they have your name and address which makes it feel almost legit. It's not. I am not going to call the number, even though it's tempting to waste some more of their time.

They said they are sending me $9000 federal money. 202-407-9056 and 202-407-9787 are the two numbers they called and told me to call to speak to an advisor before sending the money.

they are claiming they are fro the government and in order to receive a 7,000$ grant I need to WESTERN UNION them $320.00!! I told them they were crazy if they thought I was going to send them money!!! Then I hung up on her, Her manager called me back and tried to "help me understand" that I would be refunded it..Please do not be ignorant to these people. He told me that they request the money to verify my identity!! OMG, seriously??? I told him that is not at all a way to verify anyone's identity....IE: "Yup the money is green, thats got to be her" !!!! lol  The fist call was very convincing, especially considering I am a college student and already receive grants!!

I reported them to FTC. If this is happening so much it seems our gov. should be able to act faster.

Also got call, gave me name of Paul Jefferson, a pickup number and definately asked for bank and or credit card number. When I said check they said it would be by western union. Ill forward to infragard and let the FBI take care of this scam.

I just received a call from them today also.  Stating the same thing but they said for me to call back on Monday with a money approval #.  Obviously the government does not just give out 7000 for nothing so I knew right away it was a scam and will not be calling them back.  Same thing thick accents sounded Hindu.  Also they asked how I want my money either bank account, visa or cash.  Once I said cash they stated to call them back on Monday.  What a scam beware people

They are calling people and telling them they have been awarded 7000 from the federal government grant. Dont get fooled into their scam. They are asking for banking accounts. I asked for a check and they said no. That the government doesnt send checks through mail anymore. But I can receive my 7000 through money order and if I can just donate $350.  What a scam. They are also using this # 202 301 4406. Their accents are all pretty thick.you can never can get someone you can understand when you ask for a supervisor.
