How do you report them?

Received a call from this number and the guy stated that his name was Alex Butler, but it was very hard to understand him. He stated that I was due for a refund of $2173 and that I needed to purchase a green dot money pak to pay $145 penalty for the mistakes on my return and to contact him back at ext 204. A couple of hours later a guy with a very strong accent contacted me from the same number inquiring if I had purchased the moneypak and stating that he was too from the IRS and his name was Kevin Cyrus and he was the head of the dept. He stated that there was a misprint on the amount that I was due to receive and that I was due a refund of $4173 but I would need to get a green dot moneypak in the amount of $345 to pay the penalty for the mistakes on my return. When I inquired about deducting the penalty from the refund he started to become irritated stating that he has my bank information and if he wanted to he could take money from my account instead of contacting me.  When I told him the I was going to contact the IRS he hung up. When I attempted to call the number back I received a recording stating that the number of calls have been exceded and to contact administration....WOW....

To the best of my knowledge the IRS contacts people ONLY via snail mail...NEVER by e-mail or by phone. Same with SS.

Got the same call. Says they are the IRS but I knew right away when they wouldn't even connect me it wasn't. Be careful

I received a call from the following number today at 5:05 pm it was an automated call telling me that I was due a 2100 dolloar tax refund from the IRS. This is a scam and they  are using CTC Communications as their phone carrier. ( internet phones) When I went to the CTC Communicatins site the number that they used to report was an overseas company. I am reporting this to the Feds and to the IRS.

same scenario as all here. Recording from the "IRS" stating I have a refund coming call back with personnel info. Heres the deal, the IRS already has all my details. I dont think I need to give it over the phone.

Same thing here nasty  friggers had my social and said I was to get 2173.00! interesting I said since I work for the irs asked for his name and he refused!

I filed a police report with my local city police department.  I also notified each credit agency, and called my bank to flag my account for any weird transactions. I only use my debit card, so any check type activity would be fraud.

Brother got same call. Claims he is from internal revenue service. Rude jerk. Had all my brothers info

I got the same IRS automated voice call. I am not going to call them back, although it is scary to hear that some say they have all your information. Thinking if everyone files a police report where they live on Identity theft against this phone #, then you should be covered if anything happens. I would check your bank records and speak to your bank about this too. File a complaint with the Attorney General as well.  When I looked up the number it is a "Front" and not a real number from that area. I am going to write a letter to Google and see if it is a Google Voice # that they can shut down..

Automated call stating due a refund just like everybody else - all I had to do was call back and verify my information. Total scam. Who can we report these bozos too and how do they get your cell phone number.

IRS My eye.  It's a phishing scam pure and simple.

I have received this call today..an atomated vm was left I called it back and got leave a message so I did and with that being said I will be reporting this number absolutely to the attorney general. My tax refund was for 2193.00...but nothing else was said..I havent talked to an actual human..but I will answer it next time and i will get a name no matter how broken it is..i am going to have my son record the voice..this is crazy..this is scary because elderly and really actually some persons (like myself) who receive ssi, thought at first it may have been added onto my ssi ..because my exhusband is not my daughters payee any more..so that is what I thought it may be..thank God I looked this number up..because I probably would have fallen for it, until they would have said i owe 138 dollars..then I would have known it was a scam! Thank you everyone,,honestly

receive a call stating irs and a refund for 2134 was waiting for me

I just got a call from them saying the same thing....   scam.

I got a call from this number claiming to be the IRS, and I could not even understand what the guy was saying.  However, what I could understand sounded like I was to receive $2173, but I needed to pay $198 in late fees because a mistake was made.  So, I asked how am I responsible for paying late fees for money I am due a refund on, and a mistake I had NOTHING to do with!?  The next thing I know, I heard a dial tone.  Dude hung up on me.  I hope the Feds trace this number and put them out of commission.

just got a call as well and asked for the 800# to call the irs back since i just got off the phone with them.  he hung up, he barely spoke english.

I just received a call from this number she, the recorded message said it was the IRS saying I was to receive a refund and I needed to supply my credentials, I returned the call and spoke with a foreign speaking man when he answered I asked the the letters IRS stood for his reply was "how should I know"

I receive the call for the exact same amont $2173.00 I am very thankful for these post.. they save alot of heart ache and stress.

I just got a call from the same number about a refund. I could just tell it was a scam. Find a job and stop trying to scam people. A little juvenile don't you think.

Same thing happened to us. Left computerized, generic message claiming to be the IRS and we were due a refund of $2173 but needed to call back (202) 499-1576 to "verify" our information. Very glad to have read and been warned here first. Also, know that the IRS especially, doesn't work like that anyhow. I hope no one falls for this scam and the people/person behind this gets caught!

I got a call today from the 202-499-1576 and he had all my information my bank account number my ss#. he said he was ffrom the iIRS and I had a refund.

got a call from 202-499-1576 said they were from the irs and i had a refund of 200,00 dollars but i would have to pay a 200 dollar pentley. they knew my name and my husband name .they are scammers and need to be stop

Called me said I was getting a refund. Tried me make me wire them money for penalty charge. A bunch of scanners.
