This is FRAUD. DO NOT call this number. Theses are criminals located in Jamaica who are preying on the elderly and those who are easily fooled. The IRS would never call you. A tax lien would be filed against you in court by a judge. If you receive a call from these fraudsters, call your local FBI office.

Claims to be from the IRS. Becomes very defensive when you tell him you will call the IRS yourself.

Just got a call today from someone who claims to be from IRS. Said I needed to call some Michael Johnson at 202 506 9112 immediately. He did not sound "official" lol, and got upset when I asked him to repeat the reason for his call. He stressed that I need to call that number immediately. I just said okay thanks bye and hung up. Did my research online first and yup, IRS phone scam.

I called the 1-800-829-1040 number and a man with a foreign accent answered the phone.  I asked to speak to Susan Brown and he asked my name and I told him.  He told me his name (which I can't remember) and stated that one of his legal aid had called me (that would be from the 202-506-9112 I remind you).  He said they called to get my attorney's information.  I was dumbfounded and asked him what I needed a lawyer for.  He stated that I had legal actions being taken against me.  A lot of the conversation is blur to me because I got so upset and was trying to understand what he was saying.  Stated that they reviewed my taxes from 2006-2012 and found that I had been paying minimum amount of taxes or something like that.  I told him that I don't owe anyone no taxes.  He said that he is not saying that I wasn't paying taxes and that when tax accountant or preparer did it they didn't do something or another (couldn't hardly understand what he was saying).  Told me that my tax accountant couldn't help me now and that is a matter for an attorney.  Was told that I had 3 charges against me.  He was quoted codes of some sort.  After he got through, I asked him why didn't I received anything from them and now they are calling me talking about taking legal action against me.  Claim they sent out a letter in December and January which I never received.  Said since I didn't respond that they felt that I ran with the money (huh).  I was told that my assets and property could get seized and my banking accounts can be frozen.  I was very upset and my concentration on trying to understand him went out the window.  He had my correct address which I confirmed but I told him that I believe that they have the wrong person.  My sister wrote me a note and asked him to tell me the social security number on the case which I did.  He wanted me to know that the conversation was being recorded and that it will be played back in court.  I told him that was fine and once again asked him for the social security number on the case.  He said that they won't do that since the tape would be played in court.  He got mad and said that he would do his part and when the police come to my house that I could do my part and he hung up the phone.  Needless to say, I called my accountant upset and crying and was telling him all about but couldn't because I was so upset at the time.  My sister told him what happen.  My accountant stated that this was a scam because the IRS will not call you.  Went to see my accountant personally and he told me that the IRS will send you letters but they will not call you.  He also said that when I call the IRS that they will give me their name and badge number which this guy did not do.  But the strange thing about calling the IRS number is that when I called the guy automatically answered the phone.  When my sister called, a menu with different options came up.  Now when I try that 202-506-9112 number the phone just ring or it just have silence on it.  I've since googled the 202-506-9112 number and found out that a lot of others was getting similar calls.

This number called me on 3-7-14 @ 10am, and on 3-8-14 @  7:20am. Even a debt collector can't call before 8am. I believe this is illegal. I'm keeping track of their calls and researching their number. I believe that it's a scam and they need to stop bothering people.

Got a voice message from this number.  The caller was a woman named Michelle Brown with a very heavy and difficult to understand Indian accent.  She said she was calling from IRS and warned me to take prompt action to call her back before she issued formal allegation against me.  Then she repeated this number several times   I called the number back and was told that the message box was full.

"The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is Agent Mark Blake Taylor and hotline to my division is 2025069112. I repeat it's 2025069112. Now if you don't return the call. Or I don't hear from your attorney either then be prepared to face the legal consequences. Goodbye and take care."

That is the message they left.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Wow so they spoofed the real IRS number to validate their scam? Man these folks will do anything to get that money. I think you need to go to the IRS website and report the numbers those scammers were using and tell them about them using the real number to trick people out of their identities and money.
