Just got the same inquiry.  Thanks to all who post here.  I wish I could figure out how to out scam these people.  I told one guy who wanted to rent a building (scammer for sure) that I would gladly do whatever he wanted if he would first send me a $50 cash deposit.  I thought he might do that thinking he was about to scam me for $5000.  Never happened.

I just received the same story from this guy.. I put a set of wheels on craigslist and he said he was at sea and wanted to buy them for his soon. I figured it was a scam and googled his number to find this site. What a loser. It is too bad that people actually fall for these scams.

He did it again! I was recently contacted by a man who wanted to buy my truck off of Craigs list he said he was a marine over seas or on seas (he said both) and he wanted to buy this vehicle for his son. Then he asked basic questions like any man would. But I told him everything that was wrong with this truck and he said he wants it bad! he then said send me your pay pal info and a address where I can have the trucking company pick up the vehicle. I thought this sounded weird so i Googled his number I then found this website where I realized this is a for sure scam. I went along with it a little more and asked him for some personal info for security reasons he replied and said his name is Randy Rodriquez from Washington. i then asked why cant your son come pick it up and hand me a check. he then said he wishes he could but he cant. He then said if you don't have a pay pal account its really easy then guided me through the steps to set up a account. i then let him know i know who he is and left him a pretty harsh message.

Received a text message in response to an ad I had on Craigslist in Orange County. Claimed me was in navy and at sea and buying it for his son. Seemed ok so sent him my email address. Got an email that seemed very fishy but appeared to come from PayPal. Continued to text saying we needed to Western Union money to him so he will send someone to pick it up. Claimed his name is Sunny Dan and wanted us to send money to someone in Georgia. I forwarded his email to PayPal along with his number. Beware - scam all the way!

Again this scammer copy and pasted a reply to my ad
And my response was harsh and direct and I haven't heard
From him since. You would think he should know by now
That people are on to shenanigans.

It was. You were called by a scammer who scans Craigslist ads, cuts, pastes, & texts, or emails. The scammer waits for the replies. Next comes the "I'll pay you $1000. more for your car, sight unseen, & send me all your personal Paypal info., & I'll send my own shipper". Scam all the way. A person in Washington, DC wanting to buy a car, sight unseen, in LA? Right.

Received a Text Message from 202-573-8579 which is listed as a phone number in Washington, D.C. inquiring about a vehicle listed in the Los Angeles section of Craigslist.  The Text Message implies the title of the Ad was copied and then pasted into the text.
