Contact the people you sent the grant application to.

Do NOT give anyone a fee to get a grant.  Do NOT give anyone your banking information.  Scammers ask for money or banking information.  Real grants get set to you by snail mail.

The vast majority of grants are scams.  I'm 99% sure yours is a scam, too.

I have gotten a call from the number 202-684-6895 telling me that i have got a 10,000 dollar grant.Well i did put in for one for school.I don't understand why the goverment would have someone call me that can't speak plain english but you never know these days.I would like to know how to check to see if u have been approved for a grant. There has to be a way. I done a reverse phone look up on them. They are calling from Washington and the web site that pop up after you search it for a minute states a welcoming note to all imagrings by the president and offers them goverment jobs.I can't even get a good job what the hell. Wait thats a different story.I hate to loose something i need so dearly but can't give my bank info without some proof. Can anyone help me find how to see if u got a grant.

I received a call from trhese people this morning telling me that I just was awarded $7000 in free grant money, but first I need to give my bank number for my checking or saving or my debit card number, but when I refused to give that information, I was instructed go to Western Union and take $210 with me. Call back on my cell and they would give me the account number to send the $200. The whole thing sounded like a scam from the beginning. I can't find a name for this number. They need to be reported to the authorities.

I got the same call but first it was unknown and then I finally got a call from 972-904-0678 and when i called back it said the number or code you have called is invalid. Then I called 202-580-8549 and a lady with an accent asked me to verify my name and address I didn't verify my address and asked her to tell me how did I know this was not a scam? She said did I ask you to give me money you can call me back in 5 min and see that its not a scam. I did not call back because I had a weird feeling and looked it up online to see if the "grants dept" was real. SCAM ALL THE WAY

Some lady with thick accent called stating I qualified for $7000 grant from goverment, because I pay my bills on time, have no bankruptcy, and have not been to jail in past 6 months. She asked for my age and zip code. Gave me approval# jm727.

I kept getting multiple calls from a number that was unavailble. When I finally broke down and answered it, I was told that I was selected by the US treasury department to recive a government grant of $7000. He gave me an approval number and asked for my address. Then he asked if I was employed, if I was married and asked if the address he had for me was correct. It wasn't. After he hung up, I called the number he gave to redeem the grant, the phon number didn't even ring! Then I looked up the number he gave me and I came across this. This was my first experience with this kind of thing. When The guy asked if I would like the money direct deposit, and I said I would take cash or check, he seemed really irritated and said direct deposit would get the money to me faster. That's when I hung up.

Prank Call
I, Brighteyes, over the past month have gone on line to fill out those jobs posted on the web, right.
When what should appear but a page or advertisement asking me to fill out some basic information and see if I qualify for Federal Government grants. I did. Only it did not ask me for a mailing adress.
And then about two weeks later I got a phone call from what sounded like well, a middle easterner woman talking to about if I remeber filling out a questionair for grant money.
She then gave me a two letter/three number code from some strange phone number. With an area code 518 or something and mine is 904. So yeah. an out of town call. She gave the number of her manager at 202-580-8549 and this cussing guy was on the phone saying G-damn it I have had it with you. All I did was sa  hello I have a conirmation numger if you are the guy with the grant money information.  I think he was middle easteren too. Thick Accent! He then asked me how I wanted the money of "the big payout of 7,000 dollars" Apparntly the biggest payout I could get.
So i made him discribe all  the ways I could get the money. By Westeren Union or a check in teh mail or wired it to my bank account.
I accutlly said send it to my bank account. Okay. He just needed to verify teh bank of 200 dollars in paperwork charges. I said just take the $200 out of the grant money (leaving me with $6,800)
He started with a stadic noise so bad that I hung up the phone. Yesterday, I got another call from teh woman. Saying that today is teh last day.
But you know I went and told this pen pal off mine up in Canada with their Federal Police right away adn gave himself the phone numbers. While I know that 202 is this area's phone number, it doesn't mean that I won't still get phished. Even the Credit Union that I bank at said that you were just being scammed. I did not ever stay on the phone line with the pervert long enough to give any bank names or account routing numbers. There was still no need to cuss me out like that.

Just got the same type of phone call earlier today. The womans name was April and claimed that i was selected to recieve a $7000 non-repayable grant. Fortunately I'm not that gullable. If it sounds to good to be true than it probably is. It's thanks to people reporting these calls and placing statements on line that is going to help spread the word and put a damper on these scams. Thanks everyone that has posted something about it.

Some bozo calls me on my cell phone(don't know how the hell he got my number)and tells me the government wants to give me $7000  providing I don't spend it on gambling or drugs. He also asked me my age, address, zip code, and wanted to know how I wanted the money sent to me. He gave me the choices of having it placed on my debit card, direct deposit, checking account, or Western Union. when I told him to send it to me in cash "Western Union" he gave me a number to call (202-580-8549) to speak to his manager and said I should call him immediately. When I called him he just tried to get more personal information from me so I told him I'd call him back and never did.

Ok this is definitely a scam because I work for a grocery store and a guy came in and basically told us the same story of what everyone on here is saying also he called them back in store and tried to get them to talk to us, but they wouldn't (they told him not to tell us anything all this after we told him it was a scam). Then he sent the money and called them back and they told him they needed $700.00 more. There's also another number associated with this scam 202-621-0886. Moral of this story is if it sounds too good to be true probably is.

I just got the same call too and a woman with a thick accent wanted my to verify my name and address.  She said she was from the government and I was selected to recieve 7ooo for grant money which did not need to be repayed.  I told her western union and I also told her, if she was an american citizen then she would know that we have no states named' Westminster.
Its obviously a scam and a crime. Too bad or authorities dont do anything, if they did this wouldnt be getting worse.  Moreover, I have recieved emails looking very professional and legit stating they are the fbi-that could be used for terrorist activity and it probably practice. Duh.

They just called me from an Unavailable number I didnt give them any personal information. I listened to the guy that called me compared to the voice that I had to call back to and it was the same guy but tried to act like it was a different guy. Plus I would have to send the 200.00 to recieve 7000 dollars. I am not a fool this is a scam to get money from people please do not do it.

I received a call from a private number. After multiple, multiple calls from them over the past month I finally broke down and answered. It sounded legit. There were lots of voices in the background obviously on other calls. The man had a thick accent and said he was from the government. He said that I was selected to receive $7,000 in grant money. He asked me to verify my name and current address. I asked him to let me know what he had. The information was correct, except for the zip code. He then asked my age, but not birth date. So, I gave that to him. He gave me a confirmation code and a number to his manager that I was to call "right away". He asked how I would like to receive the money; through my bank account or Western Union...I am no idiot, so said Western Union. After hanging up I had a feeling it was a scam, so I spoke to my mom and boyfriend about it, just to make sure I wasn't crazy. Figuring I would still check it out, I called the number baring in mind I wouldn't give out any personal information... . By the time I called the number it just kept ringing and didn't have a voice-mail. No government supervisor would not have a voice-mail set up! I then looked it up, and found that there were many similar stories, all using different names and numbers (all 202 area codes), but all with the same story. Scam...
