THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, grant paperwork, business plan, loan, scammed-money refund, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, tax reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number, or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. If you give them the WU Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) for the wire, they can pick up the money from anywhere in the world. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Prank Call
Hey everyone, with the help of my local police department in Tuscon, AZ, I've proceeded to trace the harassing phone calls down to a business in Belmont, Massachusetts. I've discovered information about the owner of the establishment via google and I'm in the process in filing a law suit against this guy. From my research I've discovered, his name is Chris Perron and it appears he's pissed off a lot of other people and business owners (according to negative feedback on his Merchant Circle account as well as other places). You guys can even see it for yourself, just type the guy's name (Chris Perron) and the business (Datboys Data Recovery)  into a google search engine, you can see that guy has got some serious problems and definitely needs psychiatric help.  So long story shot, if you have also been receiving death threats and harassment from this guy like I have then please contact me via email so I can link you with some references to put this creep to a stop and end the harassment. By the way everyone, Satan destroys his own!
Please email me at anon09176@live.com if you have questions/concerns.on this, I have a lot more information regarding this.

Same as everyone else.  Though it was funny the guy that called me called me back to ask if I had called the number.  Sounded like he was talking over and internet system.  I did finally call the number and asked a bunch of questions.  they finally hung up.

Same story, I didn't let them get to the Western Union part.  He was not able to tell me under which US government department this grant's department was placed.  Do they select people with such think Indian speaking voices on purpose to confuse the victim and limit the questions?

They told me I had been selected along with 1,500 tax payers to receive a one time grant of $7,000.  The caller then gave me a grant # WZ1053 and a phone number of (202) 621-0357 to speak to his supervisor.  receive my Grant # from his supervisor. She wanted me to leave $120 at the Western Union Office (or it could have been $170 because it was hard to understand them due to their heavy eastern accent).  My grant # was WZ1053.

Pretty much the same story as everyone else.  I could barely understand the first guy, but he gave me an ID number of WG1052, and said I was one of 1500 selected to recieve a $1500 grant from the Treasure Dept.  He said I needed to call 202-621-0357 to talk to a Supervisor to setup the "grant".  When I called and started asking questions, she gave me a website of www.usgovernmentgrantsdept.gov and said I could check them out.  When I went there, obviously it doesn't exist.  A google seach of the phone number brought me here and revealed just how much of a scam this is.  Glad I never went along for even a little bit of the ride.  It is curious, and even alarming, that they could correctly provide so much of my personal information.  Hope they get nailed soon.

I just received a call from an unknown number.  It was a lady stating I was chosen to receive a government grant of $7,000 (by lottery).  I asked immediately if you needed to be a US citizen and she said of course that is why I contacted you.  The joke on her is I am a Canadian citizen.  Instantly she was baffled and told me to contact her supervisor at 202-621-0357. Obviously a scam.

Same call from lady. When I didn't call back They called me In 25 minutes. I pretended to be unavailable The guy said it was important to have her call back befo re the grant wood run out.  I made a phone call but it was to the police. The police tried twice call the phone number 202-621-0357 and it did not work either time. I tried a third time out of curiosity and it did not work for me either. The officer did not file a report because I did not have enough information. He said To get the information to where to send the  money to BUT DO NOT GIVE. OUT ANY INFORMATION!
The police need more information then just a phone call to trace and catch them

This just happened to me the same story as everyone else but I reviewed the number and found this site with all of you. I too feel this is real scary that they have the address and god knows what else. Why is this government allowing this especially representing them. Just goes to show how wicked our government is. People like this who prey on other people that don't have the full understanding will be taken how sad. This is no different than the scam of Health Care reform to take everything from we the people and give us nothing in return except more more and more.

Got the same call as everyone else. Guy with thick accent saying he was with the US gov. from Washington DC and was going to give me $7000.00 because I didn't have a criminal background when they did the check. He gave me a conf # and gave me this same phone number to call back. He had to repeat himself several times because he was hard to understand. When he first called he ask for my husband when I ask to take a msg he ask if I were Mrs.______, when I said yes that's when he started his spill. But before hanging up he ask me to repeat this phone number to make sure I wrote it down when I missed a number (on purpose) he corrected me real fast. Then told me what my address was, which was kinda scary. Too much information is out there for all these sicko's and scammers. I agree with one of the precious remark's on this site....why do they still have an active phone number when this is obiouly a SCAM!!!!

Amateurish call from a "government grants office" con man, who had with some troubles with English. Of course, they only need to score with the dumbest 1-2% to make money. If this has been going on since October, and the number has been widely outed, we don't seem to have very effective law enforcement with respect to fraud protection. That's also been my experience with other people relentlessly harassing my 87 year old mother. I suppose I watch too much drama TV, but locating a phone number, which somebody pays for, just does not seem like rocket science

The guy that called me to 'give' me my $7000.00 grant, told me I sounded very young and that he'd like to call me back sometime. I wish y'all could see how hard I'm laughing right now, I'm a portly middle aged woman! I knew it was a scam the minute they said they were GIVING me money, now if they would've called and said they were from the government and they were TAKING some of my money I might have believed them ;} I googled the ph# they gave me in hopes I could report this to someone. I don't want to see any innocent people get taken.

I told him I felt it was a scam, he asked me why. I said you all have accents claiming to work for the government, plus no one from the government would charge me 100 bucks to get 7,000 bucks. Ridiculous He was asking me how long would it take me to get to western union obviously to have the person on the receiving end to take my money fast. When I called him out on it being a scam he called me a b*tch, I just laughed and he sat there awhile and hung up. Very funny.

Got a call from these people, even called back.  Apparently had won 7 grand, just needed to pay a fee at a western union location.  Such an obvious scam, just terrible.  Almost funny as the indian accent was so thick, but lady worked for the US government.

Anyways, just hang up on them.

I got the same story as all of you did. I called them 4 times, blocking my caller ID each time. I made up many different stories each time. One guy said it was his house but I heard many people talking in the back round like it was a call center. I disguised myself as a grandfather that needed money for his grandchild, another time as a teenager that needed money for his father that recently lost his job. Yes it may have cost me a few cents but the entertainment was well worth the cost! Once I also started crying over the phone when they could not see as to where the call was coming from. The guy kept asking me to stop crying since I called the wrong number and I acted like I  was very distraught for misdialing the correct number :) I had him going the longest!

My wife just received the same call her Approval number WG 1055.  I called back for her and told them I was Warren Jacobs (lol) from the Dept of State and was investigating complaints about a gov't office calling people, they got all nervous and scared  asking me to call back in 10 minutes, I told them I needed to talk to someone now since it's a federal offense, they hung up.  I called them a second time same thing.  I'll call them a few more times today just to keep them wondering...  When you call tell them your from Warren Jacobs office in the DOS/DOJ, maybe they'll stop calling.
