Yep....I got a cll from these people too saying I wass awarded a free $7000 grant from the govenrnment and all I had to do was send them $255 for the processing fees that I would get back once the grant money was wired to my account. I told them I wanted them to send the money to me via western union cause I didn't have a bank account. They also gave me a confirmation number of :WY512. I didn't fall for it though cause I know tht if the government is gonna give you free money...there not gonna make you pay for it first...These people need to be stopped!

They woke me up and caught me a little of guard and acciedently have them my account number. They told me to call 202-657-6596. Without my card or pin number they shouldn't be able to take anything, but are there some steps I should take to protect myself?

I got a call saying the Government was going to give me a FREE grant which I didn't have to pay back. I was told to call 202-657-4835, I was to give them my bank information , or they said the grant would be sent to me in cash. I contacted you immediately!  They said my confirmation number was RM105.

Although government grant scams have been around almost as long as the government itself, the majority of the sites being advertised today didn't exist before the November 2008 election.

Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know. Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.

Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant. If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
