They knew my name and my address. They said it was a grant from the government that I was receiving for doing my taxes on time. Funny thing is,  I'm 19 and my parents claimed me as a dependent. So shouldn't they be calling my parents?

I got a call from 202-738-1358 at 7 p.m. stating that I got a grant for $7000 . The lady named Cristal had a thick accent . She had me going till she starting asking for $300 with my ID and go to Western Union to recieve the money. Then when I keep asking questions about it, she starting getting snippy with me. Smh.

  I got one of those calls but didn't answer and they didn't leave any VM. It came to my Assurance cell;
a phone that uses the Virgin (Part of the incumbent Nextel-Sprint system using the 3G CDMA protocol)
Mobile cellular system.

  F.Y.I.: if you are in New York City & in 212,347,646,718 and 917 (and I think there is now a 929) you
call verify the difference between a cell and a landline very easily. Other area codes probably have an
equivalent or similar method to this one:

  After running the number through a search engine without results, dial the area code and first three
digits of the number followed by 9 9 0 1. If it's a cell, it will answer, ring, go to VM, etc. If it is a landline,
the central office for that number will answer with a voice announcing something like this:

"This is the Ozone Park DS-01 handling codes 835,845,925,738, etc." All the exchanges in that area.
That will at least tell you what borough and neighborhood the call is coming from. Every little bit helps.

Got 3 calls from this number.  Didn't much like it when I told him I wasn't interested.  Said he was gonna kick my a**.  Cussed him out and didn't much like being called a fkn foreigner.  This crap needs to be stopped.  Stupid scammers!!!!

Got this call a few weeks ago telling me that I was being give money by the government. I had to go to Western Union to ge the funds.  Told them no thanks and not to call back. The calls just started again today. I am going to take the person's suggestion above and waste their time. Taking a page from last Saturday's SNL I wil tell them I am opening a Pizza business!

At least I will get a laugh out of it.

I received three calls from this number within two weeks, but did not answer any of them since it was a number I did not recognize. Than yesterday I received a call from a similar number 202-666-6600. That is when I decided to look up the area code. I received another call today from the 6600 number and I picked it up. A male voice with an Indian accent asked for me by name but before the conversation went any further the call was dropped for unknown reasons. Than I looked up both full numbers and discovered they are frauds. I'm glad there are websites like this. I don't know how they got hold of my number but I don't appreciate it in the least.

Same deal - scammer callled me from am Indian boiler room today.. The callers (probably poor minimum wage workers) have a script  that is supplied to them by the criminal organization rhat employs them.  People who read this are aware of such frauds.  Real victims are  our retarded souls, elderly live alones in early to advanced stages of dementia, and the uneducated masses of naive folks who believe in the big daddy govenment nonsense.

Criminals have always preyed on the poor, the incompetent and the naive.   Unfortunately, the government can't stop them.  We citizens can help those around us who could succumb to these monsters more effectively than any government entity.

They called and told my boyfriend that they ran all his background checks and his name and said that they had 7000$ that they could western union him and then told him to call a girl named Helen so that  she could give him more details.

i never answered this call but came here first...i'm glad i did...just wanted to say they didn't leave a message - but have called a couple of times this week.  i WON'T be answering!  glad for sites like this!  i HATE those foreign scammers...every time i post on craigslist to sell something, i start getting calls i don't recognize...probably they use ads to get phone numbers from us...

BOGUS!!

These guys just called me today, same fraud story, and it is not the first time. However, I found that there is one way to piss them off.  Waste their time. Pretend you're interested in the scam and use up as much of their time as possible, and even have fun while doing it by putting on a heavy accent yourself.  The more of their time you waste, the less people they get to call who might actually fall for their stupid scam.

I got a call from this number no one answered then when I called them back it said I could not reach this person at this time. these kind of people get under my skin. don't try and text message them because it just says why are you trying to text a land line

they have been calling me and hanging up daily, SO, I called the 202 return call back number listed above and gave them the confirmation number, but of course gave them a fake name and SURPRISE, I too have been awarded a $7000 grant ! So I played along with Christy and kept her on the phone for 39 minutes. I will continue to call them daily for a while and see if they finally get the message.

Keeps calling, does not leave a message.  You cannot call them back.  I think they got my no. from a job search on line.  Not sure.  Sick of being woke up everyday by these people.  They need to be thrown in jail as I am on the do not call list.

I have been getting a lot of these calls for weeks.  Not sure if it is because I just started to use Charter or Netflix.  I add them to my contacts on my cell phone then set it to go directly to VM when they call.  They never leave a message and I do not get bothered any more.

a foreign guy calls your phone stating you just were approved for a grant of $7000.00 from the government. HMMMM - and why is this? then asks how would you like the money, in the form of a check, on a visa card or cash. If you say cash, the guy tells you go to western union and you will need to send in $300.00 to the account number he provides and oh you will get this money back too along with the supposit $7000.00 grant.
I called the number back and was hung up on, I called again and he answered so I begin to ask questions on how he got my sons name & number and how is it he got a grant. He tells me to call back in 20min, I told him no I want to know what kind of place this was, ect.,. and then he hung up on me.  

Anytime, you get a call saying you granted money but you have to give money to get it!!! come on- is there a place you can report these scam artists??? they should be locked up.

I just received a called from this number and there was guy with a foreign accent asking me something that I could make out I believe he said he was from the Government or some type of Government agency..  At this point I ask him what did he want.  There was a lot of noise in the background from this caller.  It appears that he was calling from a automobile or on the outside on a street where there was a lot of traffic.  Then he hung up... What kind of games are these people trying to play?

These people need to be thrown in jail. I just got the run around also. This has to be illegal.

**   mysteriously  call to  claim  they  have  several  thousand  of  dollars  to  send  you....just  provide  you  bank  account and  credit  card   right  away   etc etc.........scam scam

I thought I'd be smart and ask for the money in cash since they refused to send checks.  They said they'd send it to Western Union.  All I had to bring with me is my photo ID and $300.  I hung up at that point.

Got the call today.  Some accented (India or such) fella said the us govt had a $7000 grant for me.  I demanded he take my number off the list and he said he couldn't.  I said he has no business with me and could.  I demanded where he was really calling from and he hung up.  So sad lol
