Prank Call
This idiot named Brian Allen called first and the next day another a**hole named Alex Smith left a message that the IRS was after me and I could be arrested at any moment.  I called back and had the unpleasure chance to speak to both criminals.  Brian Allen and Alex Smith (as they called themselves) spoke English with heavy accent; they are both from India and most probably they were calling from the same trash dumping site where they seemingly enjoy their low life existence and engage in terrorizing other innocent people across the globe.  I only have one wish and that our government somehow get hold of these cow-worshippers and forever rid humanity of their filth.

I just received a message from the infamous Alex Smith with the same information. . . physical address is under federal investigation and there was a warrant filed against my husband's name.  I immediately called back (202) 681-6828 and reached a voicemal (woman's voice) stating that it was the IRS Investigation Unit. After the panic set in I called and left a message for our attorney.  Then both my husband and I said at the same time "we should google the number" and ran to the computer.  I thank God for you guys who posted this information on line.  We are honest people who were panicking for no reason. God Bless you all!!!!

I Have recently had exactly the same miserable experience.  Same people with Indian accent and Americanized names (Brian Allen, Alex Smith) claiming to be part of IRS investigating office informing me of errors I made on my tax return. They made to made me to believe I was in deep trouble.  I truly wish that those scumbags get arrested and punished severely for there heinous acts.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I have received the same B.S. call from 202-681-6828, a person called claimed his name is Officer Brian Allen from IRS in Washington D.C. claimed it was a warrant filed against me and my physical address and left a fake case # to call and inquire about this case number.  The best response to this kind of scam calls are to investigate the suspicious activity. I appreciate the other people who shared their experience of this BS calls from a bunch of crooks.  This is why I am sharing with others.

I got the same call form the one and only Indian Alex Smith,  saying I have the warrants and that I will be arrested in 30 days. I Knew its a scam since its Saturday and the  IRS does not work on weekend, and they sure as hell wont tell you we are coming to get you in 3 days. I asked him for his phone number, name and where I live and he provided that.  I still told him its a scam so his response was that the police will come and pick me up in 30 days.
the other reason I knew it was a scam because I recently had a full back ground check done one me for a job that I took, ands something like that would have came up.  in Any case, I called the police just to be sure ( in case of identity theft ) the local police assured me it was a scam and they ran my name to be sure and nothing came back,  I also reported this to the local news, maybe the will air that and save someone the headache. P.S I asked the local police if I should call them back to see what can scam are they running, they told me not to.

Its a SCAM

This guy "Alex Smith" called and left a message on my answering machine claiming he is an IRS investigation officer with the IRS, stating that I was under investigation with the IRS and and that there was a warrant on my physical address, requesting that I call him back.   I immediately knew that this was a scam because the IRS would directly notify in writing the persons involved.
Thank you for everyone posting and sharing their experiences with these people and helping others realize that they are dealing with scammers.

This person named Alex Smith, crazy man called me and he said he is from the IRS and he said that he had a arrest warrant to arrest me. He said I had a lot of errors in my tax. He also asked my credit card number and he said pay me $900 and we can settle this case for the being of the time. Smith said he will send the city police within 30 mins and now it is about to be 1 hour. When I told him that I am going to the city police they hanged up the phone. They are very spurious and fruadlent. This is all a scam. Just call the local real city police and confirm everything.

These jerks (guy named Alex Smith with foreign accent) called on my home phone today and scared the heck out of my wife. When I spoke to the "Investigation Department" people they told me either I can go to court tomorrow and present my case, which I had no clue about, with or without an Attorney. That may lead to me getting arrested.... other option was to talk to local IRS department and take care of the charges by paying the $2400 that I supposedly owed to IRS....  Of course they told me not to hang up the phone because if I did then they will inform Homeland Security Department and they will come to my house and possibly arrest me. They transferred me to talk to the local IRS agent (Mr Patrick, again with foreign accent). He kept telling me not to hang up also and that I will have to pay at least $1283 right away to get the warrant dismissed. He also asked if I wanted to pay by credit card if I didn?t have enough cash. I told him I could get some cash but he will have to wait until I manage that. This guy was so pushy that he kept telling me if I hang up he will have to inform Homeland Security Department. While I had him on hold by telling him that I?m driving to my bank to get money, I called my uncle who by profession is Paralegal. My uncle said that he had heard about this and it is a scam. He told me to just ask the ?IRS agent? to provide his full name, badge ID, supervisor?s name and phone number and that my attorney will talk to them about this matter. Once I told Mr. Patrick that, he got upset that if I had to involve my attorney I should have done that earlier and now it is too late and I have already wasted too much of their time and now they will inform the Homeland Security Department!  What a LOSERS!!!!
