Digitally record a "This number has been disconnected..." Message and put it on your answering machine option. Play this when you get a call like this, the number will be removed.

Called on10/17/2013 @ 06:11 PM from Washington, DC. Caller ID shows only the phone #. Calls from Washington state and Washington DC are all SPAM calls. We only answer calls we know by name or # from Caller ID. No exceptions. If its important they'll wait 5 rings to leave a message and I'll decide how important they are. 5 rings is the magic #. 99% of Robo callers hang up on for or less rings. If you don't answer they don't know if your line is valid. After a few tries they will give up and not sell your # as valid. You've effectively solved 2 problems using this method.
Kplan23 2013-10-18 08:57:02 Unknown
Take it one step farther. Robo callers hang up on 4 or less rings 99% of the time. Set your voicemail to pick up on 5 rings. This works automatically and you don't have to be home to manually pull the plug. Since your machine didn't connect, your # has not been validated as working.

That's a great idea to turn off the answering machine when they call!
Ratzie 2013-10-15 23:14:49 Unknown
As long as your answering machine comes on they know they have an active no.. When I see a no. I don't recognize, I immediately turn off my answering machine .... the phone rings up to 4 times, rarely more than 5 & then stops. This has been the most effective method for me. These scammers have electronic devices that by-pass the "don't call" lists. Indeed, many are not even in his country.

WHAT GOOD IS THE STUPID DNC LIST?!?!?!?!
unscrupulous 2013-10-13 23:50:27 Debt Collector
Dial *67 when you get a new dial tone, call them back. Your number does not show up. Go to their DNC list and enter the FBI, Homeland Security, White House, or police, phone numbers .etc., etc. Let them pester those guys until they get a knock at the door. I was getting harrassing calls from child support collectors. That stopped them for awhile.

Regardless of the Do-Not-Call List, it is illegal to use an automatic or predictive dialer to call a cell phone without express consent. So, even if these are really survey calls (which seems unlikely), these are illegal when made to cell numbers.

Did not answer. Machine did, no message left. "Do not call is a joke". One more number to block, My blocked number list and my hate for those who make these calls continues to grow.
Mom2Five 2013-09-30 20:19:01 Unknown
Sure you could speak in a foreign language but it would be your luck that the person on the other end can speak it as well. Just don't answer if you don't know the number. I hate hearing the phone ring but by not answering the unknown numbers, the calls have come few and far in between.

Number not known to me
Ken 2013-09-25 20:49:35 Unknown
We got a call from this number today at 4:09 pm. The caller ID was "unknown name" but I answered and heard a recording that it was a "research" company. I hung up and when I called back I heard a recording about removing my number from their call list if I wasn't interested in their "special offers". How can a research company have special offers?
Miss Sally 2013-09-25 20:29:38 Unknown
I wonder what the revenue advantage is to call thousands of phone #s which nobody answers, just to find out if their numbers are "live".
Whitesand 2013-09-25 18:15:47 Unknown
Caller ID says Washington
DC, don't know anyone there and don't care to.
Do not answer the phone, if it's important they will call back and leave a message.
Mike-in-MD 2013-09-25 01:21:02 Unknown
Well if the reports above that indicate this is a survey call of some sort are correct then the Do Not Call laws have not been broken. The middle of the night calls are an issue but could indicate a glitch with their dialer and they were only reported on one day. Receiving multiple calls that you do not answer is not indicative of harassment since most dialers roll non-answers back into the calling rotation to try again for a response. The observations reported do seem to indicate a predictive dialer is being used which only connects to an actual person if a live answer is detected which explains the delays. It also explains why some calls are dropped with no one there if more calls are answered than agents are available. The only telemarketing laws that might apply to this caller are those that require the caller to place you on their internal do not call list when requested, the prohibition on calling before 8am or after 9pm local time for the recipient of the call and the prohibition of a pre-recorded message not introduced by a live agent unless you have given the caller explicit permission to call with such a message. Since this does not appear to be a sales call of any kind, although the one poster who mentioned Herbalife raises a bit of doubt, the national Do Not Call list does not apply. It is not clear to me given what has been said about this caller what you expect the government to do and whether there is anything they actually can do under current law.

You would think that 3 pages of on- going complaints, of harassment, these idiots would be shut down by now. I wonder if our Gov. officials get these calls? At least once sometimes more calls per day, this number and others. The calls come from Garden City, N.Y. to Santa Anna, California! WTF, never had problems like this before! Someones not doing His/Her job!
BRCjr 2013-09-24 23:40:56 Unknown
From Washington DC? I thought it was the "oval throne" calling me. I shut the phones down early, now. Disabled and need my rest. Too many free phones out there!!!

WTF received phone calls from this number @ 3 o'clock in morning this has to be stopped WTF
gnon 2013-09-21 14:33:24 Unknown
Answered this call ONLY because it was 3:15 AM and I thought it was a family emergency. Said hello a few times and no one answered. There has to be an agency somewhere that can stop them from calling in the middle of the night.
