If they say they are calling from windows, just act stupid, and say that you have Andersen windows, and you have just looked out of all them, and none of them are broken, even though there was a hailstorm last nite--this got the raghead computer scammers off my back months ago!

Good advice.  Maybe these clowns should spend the time to learn English instead of trying to scam people.

5 praise posts in 20 minutes.  I don't think that's a coincidence.  As an IT professional, never allow a person on your computer unless you know them and have asked them to do so.  You should always be the initiator.  Never give out your password either, even to people you do know.  If need be, set up a temporary password for them to use under your supervision then change it immediately.  Once someone is in your computer they can install viruses or malware that will act immediately or after a delay of days or months.  It could run in the background stealing your info and send it to them without you ever knowing it's there.  It won't necessarily slow down your computer even.  BEWARE!!!

Keep calling me stating malicious items have been downloaded. I've had the computer 1 month and have downloaded 3 items (Skype) (Diablo3) and (battle net.com) all in which are either purchases or free and legal. Pls end this number it's getting really aggrivating and annoying having to talk to these ppl wanting to sell stuff.

I got another call, must be my 10th or so call in the past 2 months.  Today I played around with them for about 20 minutes and "Robin" was getting irratated.  I finally said, I'm going to contact Microsoft to verify the validity of his call.  He said that would be fine.

Instead, I "blocked" his number.

If you are tired of getting BS calls, block them on your phones.

Here is a great link that explains how to block them on your residential and mobile phones.

Good luck.

I received my third call in the last two months from the Tech Support Department of Windows.  Joe Cook advises my computer
is running slow because of possible viruses.  I played along with him, asking time-consuming questions and finally telling
him I would turn on the computer so he could check it.  I then placed the phone on the table and walked away, leaving him
"hanging."  Nothing seems to deter these scam artists but, if you have a little extra time, it's fun to play along with them.

I got the same call - a Robin Peterson - with a really thick accent.  he is supposedly the Sr. Tech Officer.  He was the second person when I said I couldn't understand the first one.  He did speak better English.  He kept telling me to believe him, and that he wasn't interested in my financial information!!  Wow, I didn't even bring that part up - he did.  Obviously others have asked the same questions.  He kept telling me to trust him too, and I know from personal experience - I don't trust anyone who tells me that!  I got the website they want you to hook to:   it is www.teamviewer.com.   Whatever you do - DON'T DO IT!!!

My computer hard drive crashed last year - and the guy that fixed it told me this is a scam.  I hope this helps someone else to know that this is a BAD thing.  I can only imagine how much information I could have lost because of letting someone do this to my computer.

Funny how the internet works these days!  Thanks to all of the prior posts for putting your experience out there.  I'm going to do to the same.  I went as far as to get the website they want us to go to:  www.teamviewer.com.  if you go to this website, they will hook up to your computer by remote access.  BE AWARE!!!  Once you hook up to their system - files will download to your computer to put this program on your computer so they can see your computer.  What you don't know is what exact files are being loaded and whether or not these files are info gathering files that will record every keystroke - including passwords and id's to simple things like your bank account or credit card information.   I fortunately did not allow this to happen.  I called my IT guy that repaired my computer when it crashed in Aug 2013 - and the first words out of his mouth was; SCAM!  he asked, " did you do it?"  I said no, he said,, how blessed you are!  hahahaha   DON'T do it!

Lastly, ALL computers will run with errors, from as simple as your computer not shutting down properly, to misreading a script or a time error, or just simply not waiting long enough for a program to load and clicking too many times.  The last error on my report was the exact moment I turned my computer on!  And some of those errors I know exactly what was going on when it happened.

I hope that you don't get scammed and that this will help some.  I am posting this information to my facebook page to make sure everyone I know who knows someone may see it, on my business website/facebook page, and I'm going to put a report in to the Better Business Bureau.  If you have ever been a part of this investigation of the BBB, they are pretty thorough. I'm also going to list this information with the consumer protection agency and see if I can upload this information to the FBI Internet services.  I could also think of sending this information to a few more agencies if I really think about it.  The more responses these agencies get, the better our chance of getting this business shut down and saving the people that believe them without checking them out.

Thanks for my moment to spread some cheer!

Same problem. Keeps calling and stating that there are viruses on my computer. Thick accent and says his name is Steve Schmidt with a company called Awesome Pits associated with Microsoft. Took his number and said I'd call back. Called on my cell. Strange thing is my motherboard shorted last weekend due to a power outage. I wouldn't have been able to open my computer anyway. BEWARE!!!

Robin from technical department of windows. Obviously a scam and I wasn't home when they called, he left a message with my brother. Odd thing is that it was literally a day after I ordered my new computer from Lenovo. Anyone else with the same/similar scenario?

202-769-5282 is a great bit of fun, if you enjoy screwing with scammers.

They called my cell saying that they were from Microsoft and that my computer was infected with all kinds of viruses.  So I said, "which computer?" and they said the "Windows 8 computer" and we went around and around in circles for a little while as I asked him all sorts of questions and looked up the number on the web just to see if I could find out what I could about them.

The only thing I could figure out is that this is obviously not a legitimate call because

1) Microsoft would never call me.
2) They would certainly never call the cell and
3) I've ever met anyone named "Robin Peterson" with a thick Indian accent.

Mr Joe Cook called me from "Microsoft Help Center" to my office phone at work and told me to get on my computer to check for malicious software. Sounds to me like a scam, no offense, but he didn't sound like a 'Joe Cook' Watch out for this guy! Microsoft will never call you!

I received a call today 10.21 from 202-769-5282 said he was calling on behalf of Windows - Redmann Campus in Washington DC.    Stated his name was Robin Stewart - stated our phone number popped up as there were suspicous files.  I have 3 laptops, I asked which phone number was attached to the computer ID.  "Silence, did not have that information".   I advised him that I planned to check this out with my IT dept tomorrow.   Beware, this does not sound right.
