Now these scam artists are calling under a new number (202)470-2287. As soon as this shutdown is over or if possible now, report these scammers to the IRS. Same person, pretending to be James Morgan now, same message. REPORT THEM, the more reports the likelier the authorities will take action against these imposters!

You need to report this regardless, it is a scam.. the IRS does not call you like this period. See Elspeths and Mikes posts on page one also..

   i got a call from this number 202-769-5313 ,the person identified him self as officer Raven and he is from the IRS and when i told him as far as i know all the IRS offices are closed due to the shut down ,he said he know that but he is from the IRS investigation branch ,and i need to get a lawyer to solve this problem.

Got a call from three different 202 numbers and found out the first 2 calls were about a boguss gov. grant and then today i got a call from a fony irs officer reported first 2 calls but nt the ones today yet

same call 15 mins back. agree with all about threatening act of any officer particularly in the system. when i got call i was pretty sure about that it being a scam as he could not provide any detail information about me or him. anyways enjoy people have a nice weekend. lol

I got a call this morning from this number saying it's the IRS and was threatening me to call back because a time sensitive information will be in effect. It was an automated voice message. I called back but did not get any response. I received the same call 10 minutes back , and this time when I called back I got someone on phone and told them to get their facts right since IRS has been shut down. And then they hung up. Next time on calling them again I told them that I am reporting them to the FBI Internet scam unit and he said that I am not taking him seriously since they really are the IRS. I am Indian and understand when someone fakes an American accent. He started threatening me and said that I could report to anyone I liked. And then some more bogus bull about that this is not a customer service but this is a special tech unit IRS agents' number and I must take him seriously. After which I told him that I have never seen a government agent threaten someone, and why is he not giving up the act. This really aggravated him and he lost control and started yelling. Me and my husband on the phone couldn't stop laughing and then he just lost it, saying that are you guys seriously laughing right now. You don't know who I am and blah. We hung up right after.. Lol

Went through the same call twice, once a voice mail and the 2nd time I actually answered the call and it was the same voicemail( guess they were too busy making the calls).... Hope these ppl get caught for what they are trying do ...

Called identifying themselves as federal agents, saying they were going to revolk citizenship for back taxes owed to I.R.S. if we didn't resolve problem Number is coming from District of Columbia, first they called my home with number 709-574-7061 and now my mobile number caller I.D. shows 202-769-5313

These people are sick son of a bi****s making threats to people. I did call the number back and a Indian accent man answered said he was sergeant Adam somebody I did not interact with him and just hung up. And no I do not owe the IRS!

Same as everyone, my father got the call. Guy threatened to arrest him.

You should notify the real IRS but unfortunately like a lot of the government they are shut down right now.  

You could try calling the number here but chances are you will get a recording that they are closed:

said he was from the IRS and gave me a number to call or my attorney  also said he an officer   then the same man called hours later from a different number 202-888-3259 had the same message. who would I notify about this,

Got a call at work. Had a tone that did take me by surprise.
Told that I have back taxes of 15K and I will loose my home, cars, bank accounts and immigration status and be deported.
I was told that I will be arrested within the next few hours.
Unless I settle the amount right away.
Caller wanted me not to put the phone on mute, not hang-up or discuss with anyone else.
Asked if I had an attorney. I said I did not. This is a key point. If you say YES, then there is nothing that they can do.
Then I called up cops and IRS and they both said it is fraud.
These callers have a fake accent. Ashamed to say that they may be from India (my home land).
They are smart though, they did figure out that due to closed Govt. they know that people cant get hold of IRS easily.
Watch out.

Wow that was insane, I was not able to speak to anyone, when I answered it was a recording but saying same thing they told you, to bad these are burner phones, almost impossible to catch them

Said he was from IRS, I or my attorney needed to call ASAP, but when you call it back get a message unable to contact such number, Hindu accent, this was 2nd call today only a different number was used earlier, and said he was an officer!!! both had 202 area code, if I did not respond, wished me luck in my future!

one of the most disturbing conversations i have had... this phone number had left a voicemail saying that there was a time sensitive issue needing to be dealt with and if me or my attorny did not return the phone call all he could do is wish me good luck. i called the number back and spoke with someone that had a thick indian accent. this person told me he was looking for sam, but sam had given him this number. he was being incredibly evasive and rude, calling me an "idiot woman". i asked what business they were in and he said "the killing business". i have never been so creeped out in my entire life.

The callers are scammers, usually outwith the US, trying to con people into paying bogus "back taxes".  If you did owe the IRS money - back taxes, penalties, etc, they would contact you via USPS mail.  They certainly don't call and threaten people to pay up immediately.  Call the real IRS if you're still not sure this is a scam - their website is www.irs.gov.

Got this call claiming it was from the IRS, time sensitive and that I or my attorney should return the call ASAP

i got a call from this number too and the person said his name was Adam something. He said the issue at hand was very time sensitive and if i didn't return the call all he could do was wish me good luck. he also said to not disregard the message. what the fudge ? who is this person ?
