A man from this number called this morning at 8:10am for my father who lives with me. when I asked who was calling, the man asked if I was his wife and I said, no, I'm his daughter. then he hung up without telling me who he was. Has to be a scam if the person won't talk to me since the legitimate ones will talk to me. The Caller ID says AICR with the phone number 202-888-2943.
I'm going to let me father know this one is a scam and should not be given money. BTW, I'm on the Do Not Call list as well, but that does not stop businesses from calling.
Thanks to all who have posted before me.

Caller ID says AICR.
AICR is a scam charity. They call almost daily and they also call from a variety of numbers. Today I spoke with a rep and told him to put me on their do not call list. He was polite enough and claimed compliance.
However, my phone number is already on the Federal Do Not Call List. Charities are legally exempt from complying with the DNC, but why would any charity that wasn't a scam not respect the request for privacy of numbers on the list? A real charity would respect the list whether bound by the law or not. Therefore any charity which calls a number on the Federal DNC can be correctly classified as a scam.

"Strategic fundraising", to the American Institute For Cancer Research (AICR), is the lining of their pockets with the unsuspecting donor's money! Simply phoney cancer charity scammers, and perpetual pests!

"SUPPOSEDLY" legitimate is the key statement there. These scammers, such as the AICR, can qualify as a "charity", even if they take 99% of the donated money, and use only 1% for the intended cause. Some legitimate charities MIGHT use robo-calls, but they would leave a message. You were right in your evaluation of the AICR, they are phonies!

The American Institute For Cancer Research (AICR) is one of the very lowest rated "charities" of all because of the fact that most or all of the monies donated to them goes into lining the pockets of the organizers and the paid telemarketers, and very little or any to cancer related projects. These lowlifes take money away from legitimate charities, and are definitely to be avoided!

So now a supposedly legitimate charitable organization is using robo-calls? That is the only way for someone who doesn't know me to reach my number.
