Said I was to receive a grant of $3,500 from the U.S Department of Grants, because I pay my taxes on time. Checked for personal information and then proceeded to acquire bank info. I declined to provide bank info. and caller stopped call and stated his supervisor would call later. It all sounded suspicious and potentially fraudulent. Again BEWARE!!!

This guy has called me several times over the past month.  Cell phone caller ID says 311.  He offered $5000 in a grant that I could use for whatever I wanted.  The only info he had on me was my old mailing address. He justed wanted me to go to Western Union and pay $200.00 which would be refunded.  Of course this is total BS.  I told him I only had a dollar.  He wanted me to get money from friends - I told him I owe my friends money already and they won't loan any money until I pay them back - I told him I got a new job with the police in the fraud department - didn't seem to concern him.  I continued telling made up stories until he pretty much told me to call him back when I get $200.00.  LOL.

I live in Phoenix Arizona and I just received a call from Phone Number 602-639-4833 where an Indian man was saying that because I had paid all of my bills on time that I would be rewarded $3500 in federal Grant money!!! I asked for an address and they gave me 1820 N.E. Independent Ave WA DC and said that he could not give me a phone number because he was a supervisor. What a scam! These people take millions of dollars bit by bit from innocent people! How can we stop them?! DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GUY BY THE NAME OF JOHN ADAM HAS BEEN CALLING MY PHONE SINCE FRIDAY OF LAST WEEK TELLING ME I WILL BE RECEIVING A GRANT FOR $7500 AND IF HE COULD HAVE MY BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER.THEY GAVE ME DIS FAKE A** PASSWORD THAT DOESN'T WORK.I AM IN THE MILITARY AND WORK IN FINANCE SO ME AND SOME OF MY BATTLE BUDDIES STARTED DOING SOME INVESTIGATION.CANADA DOES NOT HAVE A BUSINESS NAME OR ADDRESS FOR THIS NUMBER SO I ADVISE EVEERYONE TO AVOID THIS CALL.

Received a call from a foreign man named Steve Huddy. Said I had been selected for $7500 for paying my taxes on time. I interogated Steve, sd he was from Social Security Admin office, gave an address as Social Secutity Admin Grant Section in Clearwater Fla., Bldg 1301..wanted my baning info. I terminated the call. What a joke!

This just happened to me. They said I would get $2000 because I had paid my taxes in time. I asked if this was part of the stimulus check. The guy who had a very thick accent kept repeating that he needed my information and would not answer any of my questions. I,unfortunatley, gave all the information including my bank account number and routing information. I tried to call the number he gave me to call back and it asked me for a series of numbers in order to get through. I am now in the process of closing my bank account. When I called the bank they advised that this was  huge and ongoing same. THE IRS DOES NOT CALL, EVER. THEY DO NOT EVEN CALL IF THEY ARE GOING TO AUDIT YOU. THEY WILL SEND LETTERS IF THEY EVER NEED TO CONTACT YOU.  NOR DOES THE GOVERNMENT REWARD YOU FOR PAYING YOUR TAXES. NOR DO THEY GIVE YOU UNSOLICITED MONEY.

I also rec'd a call stating I was entitled to a $3500 deposit due to on time tax and student loan payments. He said his name was simon brown although he had a very thick indian accent. He had all my info including my routing number somehow. He also gave the 204-668-1100 number and started to give the 800 number but it was too noisy to hear. when he called it was from an unknown number.

it's not fake guys i'll also recieve a call from the same no. and the person who call me saying that i'm approoved to recieve a grant of $5000 and he told me that i'll get my money in next week and i'll provide my banking information and i got my $5000.

Got a call from this man today! He called my wife's phone and asked for me. My wife stated he needed to speak with me. He called back later asking for my bank acct info i was kinda weiry so i told him i would call him back on monday and he gave me this number. He told me his name was John Smith yea right.!!!!!!! lol.... im work for the goverment and im gonna look into it hopefully we can get John Smith (lol) shut down!

Just an update. These people are calling from Winnipeg, Mannitoba. I found that out by reverse phone look up. I will be calling Canada and seeing what I can find out from up there.

I to, received a call from this number.  They said I was eligible for a grant and would receive $7,500 within the next few days.  The only thing I had to do was to give them my bank information.  Obviously, I was suspicious and did not comply.  I tried to get as much information out of them as I could, but the man I was speaking to was getting very frustrated with me, it was very comical.

Guy called and said it was SS so i heard him out told me i have a $7500 government grant in my name, then verified my bank info and told them it was $29.95 for a Bank of America processing fee and it will appear on my bank statement. # came up at 331, and the number he gave me to call back was 204 668 1100. He knew my name and address very sketchy!

This guy calls me from work and says I have a grant waiting, his name is Christopher ID #00315. I Googled the number (204) 668-1100 and got this site. This guy sounded African, possilby Kenyan telling me its another 509 scam. He knew my name and address and somehow this was unsettling. He got agitated by my inquiries and hung up.

Said I was to receive a refund for paying my taxes WTF! If the government gives anything back it sure as hell is not as fast as they are, lol what a JOKE!

got a call from 311, said they were SS giving me 7500$ tax return grant. I went along with it until I called the return number he gave me and it didn't work. I ended up looking this up and immediately cancelling and reopening a new bank account due to it being fraud.

Received the same calls as above. He already had all of my banking info and read it to me. I was very concerned, and I asked for someone higher up in the rank to speak with about this "so called" $3500 the government was giving me for paying my taxes on time.  He began to give me a 1-800 number, which not all numbers were clear enough to hear due to static. I was then transferred back over to this guy (who also could bearly speak English).  I proceded to tell him about the number and he got very irate with me and said he had all the info he needed and I could expect my money to come in within the next 1 to 2 days.  (Yeah-okay) Anywho, the same place called back today stating my grant is ready to be processed, I just have to agree to donate some of the money to poor people and he wanted to have me use Western Union to wire some of the money back to them for a donation.  (Whatever) I was very ticked at this point and told him I wanted nothing to do with any of this and to stop calling and I did not want their money (Okay, so I cleaned it up a little here) He got extremely mad, started speaking a foreign language and hung up on me.  Needless to say, this is a major pain in my butt.  I had to close out my checking account today, which I have had for over 16 years, and get a new one.  What a Joke.  Watch out people.

I got several calls this morning from the the number +02. The guy on the phone had an Indian accent saying his name was Adam Smith. haha. First clue this was fraud. The guy went on to verify my information saying he was from the US dept of grants and that I was eligible for a grant. Crazy that he had my cell# and my address. I asked to speak to a supervisor who then came on the phone and said hello mate! What govt agent would get on the phone and refer to me as mate? He wanted me to verify my banking information and being that he provided me with a govt ID and call back number I began to and thought. What has the govt ever done for me??? This has to be fraud. I hung up and tried calling the the number he gave me (204)668-1100. Could not get thru. Long story short. Hope you read this in time. The govt doesnt give grants without applying for them first. watch out.. I called and verified with my bank and they assured me they cannot get my acct infor with just the routing number as this individual had.

I received a call today from a gentleman named Austin Kufu. He said I was approved for a grant of $5000.00 for paying my taxes on time and for never filing a bankruptcy. He asked for my account number, I didn't give it to him obviously. He did give me a contact number of 209-624-8480 and an address of HHH Building S.W. 200 Independence Ave. Washington DC 20201, and a website of WWW.GRANTS.GOV.

Today, January 29, 2009 I recived a call from a Woman with a foreign accent like indian accent saying that the government has giving to me 5000 dollars grant becuase I'm a good citizen,becuae I've paid my taxes and because I have a good record and I don't have any felony. She started telling  me your adress is _______ and this ___, and I told her yes this is my adress then she said that we will send you the money to your bank, because it's secure, the government is not sending anymore checks, I told her The government always has sent to me checks, and I told her that I don't have an account  then she said how is possible, then she said so where would you like us to send the money what bank, and I said I don't know then she said what is your date of birth with a very difficult accent to understand, then I told her If you work for the government I'm sure you have all my my information, then she said, yes but your information is in another department, I said then can you give any web site where I can check what  you are telling me, then she said no I can give you only phone numbers,After that she said can you give me your last digits of your social security number, it was then when I hung up the phone. Okay, first off, Mr Steve Williams, there is NO WAY this is legit. So your probably working for them. Second, as this number appears in several incarnations, it's fake. Allow me to inform you of this...
The federal Govt will NEVER ask for banking information, over the phone in relation to any type of refund. You will have submitted this information with your tax return and it will never be verified unless it's in person or a duly sworn agent (like your tax preparer. It will be accessed by any number of need to know sources. A prerequisite for ANY telephonic information is 100% legible and understandable speech. Not discrimination, the law, if the public can not understand you 100% of the time, you don't get the job. I, as with all federal employees, MUST pass this "screening" during interview. Block all anonymous calls who refuse to provide information. "HINT" if they don't let you know the number, they don't deserve a response from you... PERIOD. Lastly, report all these scams to www.gov.com and there you will find all the information out about these scams and where you stimulus check is, and any other FOIA information. Thanks you and please be careful, and safeguard your information.

UPDATE: This number traces back to Winnipeg Canada.  All phone calls to law enforcement should be made to your local P.D. or S.O. first and then to Winnipeg P.D. Fraud Dept. phone #204-986-3906 and Canadian National Fraud Dept. phone # 888-495-8501.

got a phone call shown privite number around 5:30pm- the man with deep accent stating he is from grands department in D.C. and going to return 5000.oo to my husband's account. He even gives me the bank account number. I put my husband on the phone and do some research online at the same time. Glad to find this forum and hang up on him...but he keeps calling for four times....BEWARE!!

I received a phone call from a man with a forigen accent statting that I
am suppose to receive $3000.00 in my account within fourteen days and I beleived this person and I gave him my account number.
I have 2 children and a single parent and Iam struggling now.

id displayed 331 on my phone, caller had deep accent and spoke very fast.  The man HAD my routing and account info!! Freaked me out!  told me tht he was from the US grant Dept and tht I would be recieving 3500.00 transferred by 5pm on tommorrow.  Didnt care to take the chance cancelled my account and opened a new one immediately!  PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!!!

I had the same senario! So it is fraud huh?
