We get calls from this number almost daily.  When I answer they hang up.  Really irritating.  From reading previous posts it seems that there is hardly anything that can stop them.  I worry that they will prey on the elderly who are so trusting.

Phone solicitation from Police Officers Association of Georgia using ESI in Hoover, AL 205-402-4698.  Two years ago I was solicited by these telemarketers for donations.  I gave the first time, but soon after was solicited by the Emergency Medical Technicians of Georgia.  I gave to them the first time.  When I was solicited again by the POAG group of ESI, I told them it seemed like a year had not passed since my last donation.  When I questioned them they told me that they were absolutely sure of two legitimate charities POAG and the EMS group.  I thought it very curious that one organization would mention another, so I began my investigation.  I contacted both groups at their home addresses and requested their financial information.  I was shocked to learn that both have contracted with ESI for fundraising.  Most importantly, the financials revealed that 85% of the collected funds are paid to the telemarkers, so if you donate $50, $7.50 winds up with the groups. I contacted both organizations and asked that my name and number be removed from ESI's database and was assured that would be done.  It wasn't.  I just received another fund raising call from ESI (posing as POAG) asking for another donation.  I questioned him three times before he admitted being in the same location (Hoover, AL) as ESI.  I told him to get my data out of his database.  Organizations who 'outsource' their fundraising as selling themselves to the devil.  SHAME ON THEM.  DO NOT BE TAKEN IN.  LOOK AT THE PHONE NUMBER.  If it's ESI, hang up immediately

Just got the call. Told him I did not contribute before checking out an organization with the BBB and similar groups. He still wanted to know what packet to send me. I asked him to send me information, he still wanted to know what level I wanted to contribute at so he could send the correct packet because it cost them money to send the packets. I told him he didn't have to send a packet, just information so I could check them out. At that point he hung up. I checked the BBB, they are not members.

calls me on a sunday night at 7:45pm asking for someone i never heard of. i asked who he was and he said 'no one'. what a moron.

Yes, the people that call you are in Alabama and the organization is in Georgia! We have our reasons for having people in Alabama! If you place a donation and send it in the mail, the staff at POAG open the mail and write down your name and how much you contributed!! The money you send helps them pay the death benefits for officers who have passed. The reason you can not call the number back is because it is a telemarketing number that changes! Also like someone said previously, the reason you get hung up on is because one person calls several people at one time and someone else picked up the phone before you did.

I have contributed to this organization in years past, but my friend said I should be leary of callers asking for donations.  

According to your post, this org. is legitimate, but how much of the money I send actually goes to the POAG, and how much to the bank of callers????

Keeps calling when you answer they hang up

no answer. I call back, the number is no good.  but they call me every day.

Numerous annoying phone calls - today "Steve Hamilton" called for my 95 year old mother.  I kept asking him who he was with  - finally said he would call back for her  - asked again who he was with -  He said "None of your busines" and hung up on me.

I have received 2 calls within the past week and as others have stated, as soon as I answered they hang up.  It is quite annoying!!

Some woman called. She left a message. She knew I was looking for a job. Did not say name or company.

Annoying calls having begun more than a year ago at intermittent times.  I am registered with Do Not Call, however these calls continue.  Federal gov't needs to chase these characters down and file charges and fine them millions of dollars.

The Peace Officer Association of Georgia is the oldest and largest law enforcement group in the state. It supports over 7,000 members throughout GA. This benefit is open to any branch of law enforcement, i.e. (state troopers, sheriff deputies, city police, corrections officers, etc)

All transactions are done via mailouts, a call is placed to the sponsor asking which packet they want to receive (how much they are willing to give), then that packet is sent out with all the material needed to verify the identity of the organization, read more info, and return the pledge in a self-addressed envelope.

The program supports a $10,000 death benefit for officers killed in the line of duty, and also child ID kits which are sent out free of charge as part of each packet. This is a 501(c)4 non-for-profit organization that is registered through the state attorney general's office in GA.

received call from this number @ 2230 i did not answer the call.  @ 2240 i call the number back and heard a message that the number was no longer in service.

It is a computer calling. So they call more than one person at a time and who ever answers first gets the call and the rest of them get a hang up. They have a bank of numbers like from 205 776 6000 to 205 776 6099 because the # changes periodlcally. You can call block the scammers number but as soon as they get blocked by 1000's of people, they start using another number in the bank of numbers to start harrassing so call blocking is sometimes fruitless.

It is a big scam wanting money representing the POA. Next they'll say it is a hospital or something? tyrap

Redialed and it said had been disconnected on both #'s.
About the time these original comments were posted I got a call from one of those or at least same area code/prefix an a 60 number, because I called back and got same message. Thought nothing of it at that time.

Represent themselves as Peace Officers Association of Georgia. The Georgia Peace officers association does not solicit funds. I am a retired Peace Officer and I know they do not solicit.

Called and hung up without leaving a message. I have had this one before and they will call every day until I answer the phone.

I got a call from this number today (8/20/09) at 1:30 pm.  No one was home to answer the call at the time and it didn't leave a message.  205 is Alabama's area code.

This is the first time I have checked via google for the number 205 776 6011/POE. This call was received at 8:43PM/edt Sunday 8/9/09. This is not the first time I have received a call this number. I am also on the no call list. I believe for the last 3 years; however, I also receive calls on my fax number.

This number continues to call me almost everyday.  They never leave a message.  Caller ID say POA Georgia.  Today is Sunday.  It sounded like TV noise in background.  Can someone stop these people from calling my number constantly and daily?
