Deanna, I forgot to mention that if classmates.com had your debit card information to process the payment, which is what I had given to them years ago, and their most desired form of payment, the bank will cancel the card immediately and reissue a new card to you.  Because a debit card is managed in the same format as is a mastercard/visa, you will automatically be credited ALL fraudulent charges.  Another issue is that classmates have had several lawsuits regarding the same situation you are in at this present time.  They will be delighted to give you back your money, to prevent a possible reocurrance of publicity.

Deanna, please contact your bank and tell them that these are "fraudulent" charges.  Tell them that you signed nothing that would allow such charges to come out of your account.  It should be $15.00 every three months, not monthly.  Also, the fees for classmates.com have changed.  It was once $5.00 per month, but they would only set it up as a three month payment.  Since those years, it has dropped dramatically from $15.00 quarterly to $7.50 quarterly.  When you contact your bank, and if the drafts from your account have been through a debit card, your bank will automatically credit your account with the funds and go after classmates.com, themselves.  If this is not applicable, you will need to discuss setting up a new checking account, transferring the balance from the current account to the new one and then have the banker monitor your account, until the checks you have written have posted to the account.  You will definitely be rid of classmates at that point.  You can go back a considerable length of time to garner all those fraudulent charges, as well.  Good Luck on this issue.  I had made a simple (one time) phone call to classmates and was fortunate to have a very professional, courteous and polite representative take my all.  She canceled my request immediately and there was no further action that I needed to take.  My best friend, however, has experienced the same horrific problems you have encountered with the company.

I just found a $39 charge on my bank statement, after being alerted by the bank that two purchases were made today and yesterday at a Food Lion out of state.  I have Lifelock, but I guess that didn't help.  So I decided I'd better look at other charges and found this one from "Classmates Memory."  I have never agreed to paid membership with them.  The trouble is, I don't know how they got my Visa information.  And I don't know of any other time being billed by them, but since I got behind on reconciling my checking after becoming ill, I haven't look at all my statements, sad to say.  I'm going to go on their site and see what I can figure out, but I certainly DID NOT AUTHORIZE this payment.

No I don't remember signing up for automatic renewal and I have not even been on their site in a year or more.  But still they felt free to charge me this year after nothing for the last 5 or 6 years.

I think it's a scam.

Call your credit card company or bank and dispute it and block it.. Call the 206.301.5900 number and ask them for a cancellation confirmation number. They bill it every 2 years because they know credit card company lifts block after 15 months.

My husband has made the change to my account. I too was billed without my knowledge. I hope I can get the charges reversed. I did not authorize any future charges for Classmates.com., signed up yeearrssss ago but do not use it nor do I wish to anymore. I get E-mails from them saying "someone has visited" me but just delete them. Sounds like we all need to keep complaining until they are out of buisiness for good! Sorry to everyone and myself for this mess.

This same thing just happened to us last Sunday 4/15/12, and we have NEVER joined Classmates.com, so there is no chance of a re-newell, and to top it off, they charged TWICE- that's 39.00 X 2!!! They have been reported to both our bank and the State Attorneys General office...everyone else should do the same! It's a scam.

Go to the bank branch where you usually do business, tell them these are fraudulent charges,  you need any future such charges blocked, and as many as possible reversed.  You will probably have to complete an affidavit that they are not charges you incurred, and they can only go back so far in time on reversing prior charges.

Phone slamming is more and more being replaced (or at least supplemented) by bank account slamming.  I bet your branch manager has seen this all before.  Ask them if there are any safeguards offered by your bank that you can apply to your account.

I had 'signed up' for membership several years ago, and was never automatically billed and for sure would never have signed up for something this expensive.  I was not billed last year, and this came as a complete surprise... Rip off, and I believe well planned to be.   You won't be getting your money back. They say you can cancel, but, money wise, that is so they don't bill you NEXT New Years.  They get to keep 'THIS YEARS" membership they just stole from our accounts.

I am retired/disabled on fixed income, and have my social security automatically deposited in the bank. With the long holiday weekend I guess they decided to pick this week to scam us all.  I visit my check account online to manage it, and was surprised to see the $39.00 bill/deduction.  Didn't know what it was and thought maybe my bank was accidententially charging me some sort of fee. Was waiting for it to show when they opened to find out who it was from. This morning it showed, and I was flabergasted.
I emailed the Company and they sent out a prepared form response, as if they were expecting thousands of complaints on this issue. Seems they will accept our cancellation of membership, but it applies to next renewal, and they get to keep this renewal years subscription. I never signed up for any $39.00 membership and had no idea I was on automatic renewal. According to them it was in the agreement we checked off.   Does anyone else remember checking off an agreement to pay thirty  nine dollars each year for renewal? It was several years ago I actually 'joined' and have never gotten a bill that I know of, and would surly have noticed one for thirty nine dollars.  I hope the government steps in and stops them, and gets our money back.  It doesn't look like they will be returning it to us willingly. I think for them this was a one time robbery, knowing they could only pull it off once. Maybe they are going out of business, and decided to do a little money lifting from everyone on the way out?

I sent them two emails this morning telling me I didn't want the subscription...had no idea I was being renewed each year, and give back the $39.00 they took out of my checking account. They replied twice that I could cancel membership, and it would apply to next renewal date, however,  It won't to what they just took out or this years membership.  Does anyone else rememember this happening before, as in last year, and did Classmates ever charge $39.00 a year for membership before? This is the first time I am being billed for this.  I had been at the site and set up a profile years ago, but,  I don't believe I was signed up for any special account, and certainly I would never sign up for something costing #39.00.

I noticed too that in the response they inform us that classmates is now under a new or other name. I wonder if this wasn't a planned scheme, over the New Years weekend, to steal from all our checking accounts using some agreement we were not aware of. Did they raise the price with this new company taking over, and made sure not to tell anyone? Again, I never signed up for this type of membership and price.  I think they are literally scamming/stealing from their 'members' free and paying. Maybe they are going down the tubes and skipping out with everyones money, gained by trickery, on their way out?   Not very happy and will be informing my bank. Not sure if they can get my money back. Looks like this company planned ahead, anticipated this reaction from those they stole from, and are covering their suposed 'legal' behinds.  Nasty folks!  I hope the government steps in and does something real fast.

Thank-you.....I have been trying to find contact info for classmates.com for weeks. They don't post it anywhere on their site which has to make you wonder. I sent a help request through the website 3 times and got an answer that had nothing to do with my question. In searching for their phone number I came across a lot of sites dedicated to what a rip-off they were. So now I have their phone number but not so sure I want to do business with them.

Yep, this is Classmates.com My theory is this: they put this phone number on your credit card so you will not automatically make a point as to who they are. i forgot about them as well. I am about to go and cancel that account because I never use it. I think Classmates had a good idea some years ago but they slep on it and now Facebook has taken the golden egg and ran with it.

Classmates.com and others were early pioneers of this social media movement. Nothing good comes to those who wait too long LOL. They need to get with the program and make it a free service and sell advertising or coffee mugs or something LOL to make some cash.

The default is Automatic Renewal for Classmates.com -- which it says in the small print when you sign up.  One can easily opt out of Automatic Renewal by going to Account on the menu at the top right of the screen.
