Claimed to be a boat broker with a buyer for my boat. Wanted to do a deal quickly do to the fact that his client was leaving the country but needed to have the boat for his son's birthday present. Everything sounded "fishy". I eventually responded that the boat was no longer for sale.
John Elliott 2011-06-06 20:42:05 Unknown
No call but he tried to buy a boat from me on ebay. He wanted to send me a check for an amount higher than I was asking and send the money back to the buyer.

No call but he tried to buy a boat from me on ebay. He wanted to send me a check for an amount higher than I was asking and send the money back to the buyer. Said he needed to do the deal quickly because he was flying out of town and it was for his son's wedding.
Karen Paul 2011-06-06 20:42:05 Unknown
Received an offer for my boat. Asking price plus additional dollars for transport. Says his client wants to buy it as a wedding gift for his son and wants to send me a check. Smells fishy. Did not give out any information.
Sounded Suspicious 2011-06-06 20:42:05 Unknown
Same as others. Claimed to be from Paulbarne Boatbrokers, was going to cut a check for more than boats listed amount and needed the transaction to occur quickly (Client's son's wedding present). Note: The phone # listed was different 206-426-0754.

Fred Green is a scam artist. He will send you a fake check for an over amount and request you to send the difference back to the buyer. Most likely he is out of the US, but the local police and FBI have been notified. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM!!!!!!

I received the same e-mail. Mine was from Michael Lakes but using DC Harbour as his address. The boat is selling at a different price than others but he (and the other names) wanted exactly $6,350 returned! Just like all the other e-mails. Shows that they are still working at it.

Hello,
Thank you for your response, after discussing with my client today on your reply to our enquiry on boats's condition ,he is really satisfied with the details of your response and the boat's condition update from the boattraderonline ad.. To that effect, and considering the urgeny/timing of this purchase, which this boat is ment to serve as a wedding present to his son. He has just commended your boat, and has instructed me to carry on the transaction at the price of $27,750 ,he said he will be going on a buisness trip soon and will rest virtually all the transaction on my shoulder and assign a shipper like wise that i will work with,he futher stressed that he will be issuing out a cashier check of ($34,100) which was an earlier cancelled order made by him, this amount is expeted to cover both the shipping and any other expences that might accrue in the course of this transaction, so you are required to deduct the cost of your boat which is( $27,750) and then refund balance which is ($6,350) to my clients pickup agent and shipper after payment gets to you to enable him come for inspection /pick-up,transfer of title paper and other tax charges.
Confirm arrangement and send me your NAME,ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER for check payment to be delivered to you via fedex courier services .All other information needed in completion of this transaction will be given to you in due time.

Just like all of the others, no phone call but an email Godwin Boat Sales in Seattle, WA. I emailed back for grins and giggles, to inform him that his terms were unacceptable and that a bank wire would be the way to go. Imagine......not a single email since. Sad to think that people are still falling for this ignorance.

FYI ... just got the same email from our "friend" Godwin regarding property listed on boattrader.com. Unbelievable that he is not even smart enough to spell properly or change the story slightly. Word-for-word ... unbelievable. Checks in the mail ... and I'm sure it will arrive and clear the bank!
Hello ,
How is life treating you, hope fine.
I want to inform you that the check is meant to have delivered to you now, please confirm receipt of the check and follow up with the instructions below. You are required to take exact amount for the property bought from you and send the remaining balance of the funds to the pick up agents via westernunion money transfer or moneygram money transfer. You are also required to inform the agent on the best pick up date.
This is the SHIPPERS/AGENTS Details you need to send the money to through WESTERN UNION or MONEYGRAM MONEY TRANSFER as they will need these funds to settle some fees and tax charges regarding their shipping arrangements and payment for their pick up and delivery services.
You are also to split the funds into two places ,this is because some WESTERN UNION outlets does not allow a transfer above $5000 to be sent to one person in a day,so the agent instructed that half of the money should go to the shipper direct.
You should send $3000 to the agent and the remaining half to the shipper.
NAME - FRED EVANS
ADDRESS:314 Bleecker St
New York, NY 10014
and here is the shippers info that you will send the remaining $3350 also minus transfer charges
NAME -VICKY THOMAS
ADDRESS - 116 Woodruff Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11226
We made enquiries in WESTERN UNION and you are to pay for some transfer charges ,you should deduct the transfer charges from the money you will be sending to the agent.
Secondly you should not fail to forward the wire transfer information to the agent email address as soon as the transfer is completed, this is important for office records.Below is the agent email address:
EMAIL - ( seasoption@yahoo.com )
I will be expecting your mail with a copy of the money transfer details to the agent as soon as possible so that he can schedule with you on the pick -up arrangments.
Please remember that you are required to forward the following money transfer details below, after you have done the transfer.
1 - MTCN or REFERENCE NUMBERS (Money Transfer Control Number)
2 - Receivers Name and Address
3 - Senders name and Address
4 - You are to state in your mail the exact amount that you sent after the transfer charges have
been deducted.
You are advised to go to any WESTERN UNION or MONEYGRAM outlets or stores in your area to make the transfer.
We are expecting your response with the details of the transfer, you should keep the purchased property in order all its documents to avoid complication at the time of pick up .
Once again, thanks for your concern, patient and understanding.
Warm Regards,
NOTE:YOUR SWIFT RESPONSE TO THIS MAIL IS HIGHLY NEEDED PLEASE..

This "Michael Rocks" claimed he's buying my boat for a wedding gift too! Some "wedding", can't wait to go...where's he holding it, at the local marina of fraud ??? Sink this guy!!

Same deal, Michael Rocks. What;s it take to shut a guy like this down. What a piece of garbage.
Tim 2009-03-22 11:37:43 Unknown
I have the same experience with this idiot, although I immediatly recognizd it as a scam. I have submitted information to the Ohio Attorney Generals office, the Washington state Attorney General office, am following up with a report to the FBI's internet fraud division, and to the local BBB. You should all do the same. This is the only way these kind of people will be stopped.

We have also received emails from this guy under the mane Michael Rocks. Same story- quickly purchasing a boat for a client as a wedding gift. After sending him some more information on the boat this morning I had a funny feeling and googled his address. Suprise- No boat brokerage at 117 n Main st Montesano, Wa--but it did lead me to this site. He hasn't made a transaction yet-so I don't have a crime to report. I hope this guy gets caught.
Clifford 2009-03-15 18:07:31 Unknown
Same guy, same scam. Even after I threatened to turn him over to the authorities, he still pursued. Unbelievable. Unfortunately, the authorities don't seem to have the resources to pursue him. I was told by a local authority that until he actually committed a crime, they wouldn't get involved. If anyone knows of a federal organization that would pursue him, please post the information.
Thanks.
