I just got the hearing impaired/disabled one regarding my washer/dryer...How do they catch/stop these people? Any one I can report it to?

I experienced the same thing from two different gmails then an odd responce from "micheal" at the gmail timmisun01. I smelled scam immediately and am reporting it. Fbi should be involved if u ask me they also do this when it comes to selling items so watch out for that too

The same exact thing happened to me!! However, being a newbie to selling anything on Craigslist, I actually deposited the check that was sent to me, after delivering the merchandise. One week later, the check was identified as a cashier's check from another person that was scammed. Now, I have a negative balance in my account of -$1600. This same thing has happened three times since, however, I did not deposit the checks. I have all documentation for the police and am going to file a report.

Similar story: I posted a for sale in Austin TX craigslist and got this email.  I was out of town so when I got home I emailed back and got the exact same message back (copied below). The bit about the god fearing person was a tip off that something wasn't right, and the exact duplicate email reply confirmed it (as did googling "Criagslist Scan John Owens" and finding this page!

The one posted by Brett is the EXACT e-mail I received today!  The first e-mail asking "Still available?" was from mmkmwndwendy@gmail.com - when I replied it went to John4john2@gmail.com.  When my husband found this, I replied for "John" to advise me when he would be in town and he could just bring cash.  No response so far.

I got these two email  after posting an item on Craigslist. I thought it was super weird to get two requests for 2 different items so I came on here. John Owens fished for information using another email address. Beware of the following email addresses.

Well that just deflates my little bubble.  I had a guy with the email address of john4john2@gmail.com inquiring about buying something I had posted on craigslist.  He wanted to send a personal check and I told him no I would take money order or I needed to be able to verify that it was a valid account and check would clear before he could pick up item and he quit emailing me back... After finding this I am guessing he quit emailing me b/c I was a little to upfront about not dealing with a scam...  I work in a bank and know how to go about verifying money orders and personal checks and was not at all hesitant about letting him know this.  Really sucks b/c I was trying to sell the item to finish getting stuff for the new baby my husband and I have on the way and due in 6 weeks... Dishonest people irritate me.

Just received the exact same e-mail about a Craigslist posting in Indianapolis. This is a scam.

I'm so glad I googled this tool's email address! Just got an email from john4john2@gmail with the same spiel. Out of town visiting his son,  blah,  blah, blah. But the first one was from a sharronbreath@gmail,  which just asked if it was still available. I was so excited, thinking my item sold. Why would they think this works? If I can't cash the check, I'm not meeting you for anything. Glad I didn't give him an address!

Telling me he was a marine engeenier manager and couldn't make it in person but he would send me the money true paypal then told me he did an that the money was on hold by paypal because it was "too much " he said you will receive emails from paypal notifying you about it..and yes i did received Fake emails from an email that was not paypal MONEYFUNDSINFO@MUCHOMAIL.COM which asked me to wire money to certain person and after that email the receipt to that "paypal"email so they can reimburseme with the whole amount... luckily i had contacted Paypal and they advice me not to wire none...I HATE THAT THEY ALL SPEAK THE SAME CRAP CANT EVEN CHANGE THEIR STRATEGY AND THEY ALL GARBAGE SAYING " THEY ARE GOD FEARING PERSONS WGEN THEY ARE DOING THAT B***S*** TO PEOPLE... and yes i google this because i just received an email from john4john2@gmail.com TELLING ME THE SAME STORY BUT BEFORE THAT I RECEIVED ONE FROM all the others "they are all in vacation" " business trips" " visiting family" THEY ARE NOTJING BUT LOW LIFES WHO ON TOP MENTION GOD IN THEIR SCAMS

I also received emails from John Owens john4john2@gmail.com john replied to a advertisement that I had on craigslist for tractor tires. john stated he was okay with the price and would have his secretary send me a check. after I received the check the check was for 2000 dollars more than it was supposed john sent me an email and ask me to wire the extra money back to him. not knowing that this was a scam I took his check to my local bank. my local back and verify funds on the check that I received. the check could not be verified so I notified Mr owens and have not heard  back from him. johns original email he also stated to me that he was visiting his son and as soon as he could he would have his secretary send me a check he also stated that he was a god fearing man and would hope that I would be honest with the sale I'm writing this so that no 1 else gets scammed by him

I didn't receive a phone call from the number listed above, but like others have said, I received an email about an ad that I had posted on craigslist, and the email was from a "John Owens".  What instantly threw me off wasn't broken English like others have mentioned, but the first email came from a tennytee4@gmail.com asking "still available?".  The second email i received was from John Owens with an email address of john4john2@gmail.com... The emails didn't ask any specific questions about what I was selling, it just instantly said he was good with the price, but wouldn't be able to do a pickup because he was out of town visiting his son, so he would overnight a check to me, and arrange a pickup from a close friend.  The email also like mentioned by others ask for Name, Address, City, State, Postal Code, and Phone Number.  The email also quoted "I need you to be honest with the sale as I am a God fearing person.  Thanks, God Bless".  I was selling a set of truck wheels, and found it very odd the person had no questions about them, he was just ready to send me a check.

WISH I HAD CHECKED THIS SITE OUT BEFORE ANSWERING THIS SCAM..GOOD WAY TO START OFF THE NEW YEAR AND A FIRST TIMER ON CRAIGSLIST..I HAVE LEARNED A LESSON HERE

Same Thing for me too. I posted some things for sale on CraigsList. I never did receive a phone call, just numerous emails. He is saying now that he is "Hearing Impaired" so he can't call me, but will be corresponding to me via email only.

Scam from Craigslist, they said they live in Ca, I googled the address and it does not exist. I live in CO.

I got a response to my craigs list add from this "person" stating that he will "have his secretary" mail a certified check.  He asked for all my personal info and said once the "certified check" clears; the pick up of "the item" will take place.  BE CAREFUL.  Notice that his secretary will issue the check and also notice that he doesn't even mention what item we're discussing!  What a loser!  PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR BE RIPPED OFF BY THIS CREEP!

So, what does he do if you give him the name, address and phone number? I received an e-mail that was written correctly and was close to being ok. I sent the info and figured it was no more than someone could get from googling me. I then received an e-mail this afternoon saying that the 'assistant' sent out the wrong western union to me for too much and wanting me to cash it and get another to send back with the overage. I said no, I would however send your origional back and the assistant can bring cash. I got the sick tummy feeling from first e-mail and usually would have checked further, but waited this this afternoon. Now I'm wondering what the typical MO is if he has your name, address and phone?

Another scam reply to my Craiglist post from abs1@mills-st.com Tom Howard.  Wants to overpay by $20 for a $35 item.   Smelled of scam, and thanks for your tip!

Any inquiry,s from from a .gmail address is about 99% a scammer, especially on craiglist. These people are getting very desperate to try and scam a $200.00 stove.

I had asked the scammer Tim Howard to send the MoneyGram to my company address
Dewey, Cheetham & Howe.

Tim Howard scammer actually hand wrote the Dewey, Cheetham & Howe company name on the envelope on 8/16/2010.

Called MoneyGram telephone service and verified the two MoneyGram money orders were forged copies of money orders both cashed on 7/7/2010.

Someone track down @mills-st.com and we can perhaps catch this scammer.
