Good news to Canadians receiving unwanted calls from the US, I have received this number in the last couple of days also. I am on our DNC list, as many Canuckers know, we were not able to register our numbers State Side, guess what? They apparently do now! I don't know when they started doing this, but I was able to get it registered this time.

I hope our DNC will help out the Americans with our Canadian scammers. So Canadians, register your number with the FTC, mark down the date, and count down the days (31).

Thank you FTC for finally recognizing the problem and allowing Canadians to nip this in the butt. Americans, I hope you have the same success with our DNC.

FTC for Canadians to call 1-888-382-1222 (Canuckers, pass the info along)

DNC for Americans to call 1-866-580-3625 (good luck guys and gals!)

I agree with everyone here. Very annoying. One suggestion is to try and contact the manufacturers of "auto dialers" who provide the technology to call your home.  I bet you can't find a telephone number for any of those companies.  Google the telephone number to find the company, use the BBB website of the company's home city to find the company exec's name, then use zabasearch.com to find their home address and phone number.  Cross-reference the name with the county's property appraisal website (for example, google cobb county appraisal district and find the property search page, enter 123 Any Street) to see who owns the home at that address.  Perhaps if these guys got calls at home at dinner time they would seek a more honerable line of work.

This is true. It is out of the country..when I call it back it says " international call cannot be completed."  the only thing I've done recently is open a credit union account, and applied for mortgage. Hmm..wonder if they're selling numbers to these morons.

Saw that I missed a call from this number this afternoon. It's a phone number from Pacific Telecom near Seattle Washington. However, if you want to report it, you need to call your phone company because many times these phone numbers are spoofed (meaning thats not really where the call is coming from). Your phone company can pull the call record and find out where the call originated from and then they will contact that phone company and report the abuse. @PINKLADY, You're lawyer can't do anything other than hand you a big bill, just report it to your phone company

New York Probes GE Money's CareCredit Marketing
Attorney General alleges kickbacks to providers to saddle patients with debt
August 5, 2010

Health care services are expensive enough without patients getting buried in high-interest debt. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says that appears to be happening with greater frequency.
Cuomo says his office is investigating what he calls "predatory" health care lending where consumers, especially seniors and vulnerable patients, are misled about financing, causing them to be pushed into debt.

Cuomo says some health care providers pressure consumers into using GE Money's CareCredit, a health care credit card, through fast-talking sales pitches and deceit. He says the investigation also found CareCredit often pays kickbacks in the form of rebates to the providers based on how much business they charge consumers on CareCredit cards.

The investigation was based in part on hundreds of consumer complaints received by the attorney general's office. Consumers reported that health care providers promised that the credit card had "no interest," when it often carried retroactive interest of over 25 percent if not paid in full during a promotional period. Consumers were also unknowingly charged up front for services they never received, and their attempts to obtain refunds were often thwarted or ignored. Meanwhile, CareCredit pays the health care providers in-full within 48 hours of the charge.

The investigation also found that CareCredit charges the providers a fee for the right to offer the cards, and then rebates part of the fee based on the amount of money the providers generated through CareCredit sales. Cuomo said this kickback arrangement, plus CareCredit's payment in full to providers within two days of the charge, creates an incentive for providers to push consumers to use CareCredit rather than other methods of payment. In fact, he says providers pushed CareCredit over cash.

Bankruptcy
"Health care debt is the number one cause of individual bankruptcy, and this scheme is contributing to the economic burden being felt by consumers," Cuomo said. "People are being tricked by misleading offers that have them paying for services they never received as well as interest charges they never knew about -- and they are ignored and given the runaround when they try to get their money back."

Cuomo issued subpoenas to 10 providers that promote CareCredit, as well as to the companies that manage CareCredit, Chase Health Advance, Visa Health Benefits, and Citibank Health Card. The subpoenas seek marketing materials, applications, terms of credit, contracts and rebate agreements, policies and procedures, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries. The investigation is continuing.
In addition, Cuomo is asking several nationwide and state-based medical associations, including the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Association, to explain why they endorsed CareCredit and whether they received compensation for doing so.
CareCredit is accepted by more than 125,000 health care practices nationwide. The New York State Dental Association asserts that more than eight million dental patients and 80,000 dental practices use CareCredit nationwide. The credit card is advertised as a way to pay for services often not covered by insurance.

In recent years, Cuomo says, his office has received hundreds of complaints from consumers indicating that they were lured and misled by providers into applying for, accepting, and using CareCredit. Among the complaints received by the AG's office regarding what he terms a scam.

"Attorney General Cuomo's investigation shines a badly-needed spotlight on deceptive practices used to market health care credit cards to elderly and low-income consumers,"said Chuck Bell, Programs Director for Consumers Union, nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports. "We are concerned that some health care providers are aggressively marketing these high-interest credit cards to patients, without providing appropriate disclosures, protections, or refunds. Consumers Union strongly supports the attorney general's investigation, and applauds his ongoing efforts to protect consumers across the nation."

BE CAREFULL WITH CARE CREDIT - that is handled by GEMB and they have a policy of NOT posting your payments in a timely manner.  Usually the very last payment on the 0% financing offers.  That way they can send you a bill for a full years interest claiming YOU did not pay them on time when you did - they held it back and posted it late.  I would use a mail service that TRACKS when they receive your payment as proof they received in time.

The other common complaint I found was they STOP sending statements.

I disagree with the person who said 'just ignore it."  Report them to the FTC through the Do Not Call registry.  When the FTC gets enough complaints about one firm they eventually take action.  That is how the phony car warranty scam which was rampant 2 years ago was finally crushed.

Those of you that hide behind the Do Not Call List...grow up!  Stop whining!  NO BODY CARES ABOUT THE DO NOT CALL LIST!!!  No one will enforce this law & most do not abide by it.  Take matters into your own hands and IGNORE the calls.  Do not answer the phone if it's an out of area call you don't recognize, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.  Got it??
Scammers don't care about any Do Not Call List & they laugh at you.

This number is actually an out of the country number.  I use Vonage so the complete phone number shows up and it is 011-206-397-5025- that right there tells you it's a scam and do NOT answer or they will never stop calling.  Ignore the calls & they eventually go away since they will think your phone number is not good.

It's an out of country SCAM!!

Called back -- why not, unlimited minutes....

thank you for calling us back. if you would like to be put on our do not call list press 1.

What a dirty trick to use a non-toll free number to entice you to call back. They called us twice in the space of 1/2 hour, and hung up when we hit 'talk'.  They should be put out of business.
