told me they were the usa and I have a grant for 7500.00 for my use. Told him I was not going back to school I don't need this he said it is free and I have been chosen (lucky Me) sure. Okay just send me the check. then he said I have to make sure you are you. Told him this is a scam and If you have anything for me just mail it and I hung up.
My phone is not in my name and is unlisted how did they connect the two? Maybe IRS leak don't know.

Sadly, complaining to the WA authorities will likely get the same result I got complaining to the Canadian regulator.  "Nothing we can do"..  

I've had 12 calls in two weeks from 9 different numbers, Each time, the robovoice of "Anne" from Political Opinions begins her cheerful "Hi, this is Anne from Political Opinions with a ...." spiel.  Always, it is the same, only the number on my call display changes. In addition to WA (206), I've had (in July alone) calls from area code 778 (my province), 403 (Alberta), 514 (Quebec), 503 (Oregon), 971 (also Oregon), and 222, which is actually the COUNTRY code for Mauretania, a West African republic!  Also on my list is the wonderful "888", which has been attached to at least three different numbers this month.  

All of these are, of course, "spoofed" numbers, used by the scammers at "Political Opinions" to disguise their true origin, which the Canadian govt believes to be South Florida (so they told me earlier today at the CRTC, roughly equal the US FTC).  Blocking them will do no good- they have thousands of available numbers and area codes to spoof and call blocking is really only a way to make money for your Service provider.

For other North of 49 readers- according to the Canadian CRTC, their hands are tied. They simply cannot enforce Cdn law in non-Cdn jurisdictions. Nor can they block (legally) this type of call under the so-called Free-Trade agreement.(NAFTA). I asked. I got that reply.  So now you know.  Therefore, because it's (apparently) American based, it must be dealt with in the land of the outraged and the home of the indignant.  So-

To my US neighbours- The Canadian Govt has traced the source of this problem to the US, apparently FLA;  please do both us and your American friends a favour by deluging your elected representatives with complaints. This is an election cycle, and asking wanna-be Senators and Congressfolks how they would deal with this infestation (and indeed the entire phone scam industry) may help you decide who to vote for if you're on the fence. And if enough of you make enough noise, perhaps the FTC might actually leap into action!!!   Maybe...

These clowns are not affiliated with any political party.  Their survey is FAKE.  Their cruise is NOT free.  Give them no information -- especially your credit card numbers!  

Do not press any number to speak to anyone or to be removed from their calling list.  You are only confirming that yours is a real number.  If you speak to someone, they will only laugh at you, curse at you, and then hang up on you.  It is not worth the aggravation.

If the recording claims that they are from Political Opinions of America and you Google that name, you will find a fake website.  Again, it is FAKE.  As near as I can figure, these telemarketers are with a shady cruise line selling small cabins and terrible ships.  THE CRUISE IS NOT FREE!

They are telemarketers who are obviously spoofing their Caller ID information in an effort to avoid prosecution.  Too many people have fallen for their scam.  Do not be counted among their victims.

These crooks use auto-dialers for their robocalls.  They do not care about the do not call list.  They do not care that they are burning up your cell phone minutes or calling on Sundays.  They are trolling for victims to steal money off of in their fake survey/not-free cruise SCAM.

More gimmicks, advertisement, and hucksterism! All of them just want to pull some fraud, scam, or trick to get people to part with their money. Now, I am tending to ignore! If I do not recognize the number as legitimate or authentic, I will NOT answer! The gimmicks are designed to rip people off!!!

I blocked Area Code 206 in my Digitone because they call from different phone numbers.

Received a call on 6/30/12 at 10:16am no message left. I have a DO NOT CALL NUMBER & it is unpublished in which doesn't mean anything.

I, too received a call from 206-496-0960 this past Sunday. I found your comment to be extremely interesting. Please note that NAMBLA only preys upon boys. Aside from this, personal circumstances cause me to otherwise agree with your assessment. The FBI has taken my case based upon these personal circumstances. I have told them I believe most calls ties to some sort of international pedophile ring. More I am not at liberty to say. So many calls are received regardless of how many times I move, where I move, and this has gone on for years. Again, you are, I believe, on the right track. These are not "commie b*****ds," but in my opinion something far more sinister and a threat to our children.

I received a couple of calls from this number today, SUNDAY.  I have read the posts from other people & I read it is from a political survey in the US.   Well, I live in Canada so why are they calling ME!     God, it is so annoying & the nerve of these idiots calling on a SUNDAY !!!!!

They just want to sell you a vacation but use political survey as the con.

The are calling North America not just the States.  I live in Canada  they just called here and they called my sister who lives in Ohio.  They refuse to talk.

I tried calling it back & got a very British accented recording saying this number is temporarily unavailable.  I started getting these cals after getting a bank loan $ can't help but wonder if my # got sold.

name of their calling list by pressing 9 i was stupid to do this. then my wife reminded me of a warning

she heard on tv never to push 9 for phone fraud

Save every # that you receive from these online pharmacies and telemarketers and political polls to a common contact name.  For example I save all of them to a contact I labeled  "ONLINE RX".  Then everytime one of the #'s calls I answer "Las Vegas police department, please state your emergency".  Or use whatever hometown police department.  They usually hang up but when they don't I get a laugh cuz I keep replying "police department, what is your emergency"  I have fun with it anyway......

I have received many unwanted calls from this number to both my home phone and my cell phone

Niagara Falls, CANADA..this number keeps calling and leaving no message or they hang up and say nothing if I do answer..no clue who they are, but they are SERIOUSLY ANNOYING me on a Sunday morning!

I get calls on my cell phone from 206-496-09xx and they are all the same scam. I put them all in a scam category but I don't have a way to block all calls from 206-496-09xx
