Last night when I shut down my home and my work computers (both windows 7) my home computer went through a upload series that seemed like normal from microsoft.  This morning I got a call from 1-260-555-0114.  The caller ID said it was Dir Assist.  The guy with a heavy Indian accent ask for me by name.  I never confirmed but he went into his speil about being from the Windows Help Desk and that my ISP was sending error messages. He asked me if I was by my computer so that he could check.  I told him that I was by my computer and that it was not giving my any trouble and he hung up.. Of course I knew it was a scam but now I'm wondering how he got my name in the first place.  I plan to keep my wifi off on that computer and do a scan before I get on the internet but like you I am now wondering whether last night's upgrade was really an activation of some kind.

I love playing with them also....if I have the time...& catch me in a playful mood.  Try "All tied up"..take it from there. Or "Brass Ring Hacker". That's where I get a msg as the caller & I are going back & forth on the computer....& I get really excited, start  screaming...thanking everyone...& tell the caller that with my special hacker friends....he's a game. And I just got all these points & brass ring for him calling. I've been waiting for him forever! Love it!

I got a call from this man saying he was from Microsoft and that my computer was sending error messages.  Weird thing is I had some problems with an error message the day before.  But I figured I would contact Microsoft myself to see if it was them and then checked up here first.  Weird!

SCAM ALERT! I just got a call from 206-555-0100. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION. DO NOT ALLOW ACCESS TO ANY OF YOUR COMPUTERS. DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD. A man with an Eastern Accent said he was calling from Windows and that one of my computers was downloading some dangerous files. He wanted to fix them over the phone. I asked him what company he was with and he said he was calling blah, blah, blah. I told him he didn't answer my questions and I wanted to know what company he was with. He said he was calling to fix my Windows computers. I told him that I don't have a "Windows Computers". He hung up. I searched the number and came up with a series of complaints (this site) on the same number and similar situations.

Got a call this afternoon from this phone number. The guy (heavy India Indian accent) said he was from Microsoft & had a question about a Surface that I returned. The truth is that my daughter's fiancé received several gift cards (1 from me) and used them to purchase a Surface for Xmas. The Surface was recently returned as it was having some issues, but I had nothing to do with that transaction. How did this guy know?

I have received a number of calls from this number but don't answer as I'm not familiar with it. When I call that number back it gives me the Sprint 411 information operator. The number that shows up is from a cell phone that has changed how their caller ID shows up and therefore the number itself is not valid. This person keeps leaving threatening voicemails stating that legal action is going to be taken against me if I don't return his call. This is a scam and they trick people into believing if they don't pay them the legal fees that they will send someone to arrest you at your home or place of work. The call back number they give is 856-368-5276. If you call them and ask them for any of their information they will hang up.

It's the "there's a virus on your computer, follow the steps so we can install spyware on your computer" scam. Usually from some Indian/Arab call center. Report it to the FTC, then block this number. Unfortunately they use multiple scam phone numbers.

Jan 21, 2014  @ 1:24PM  Just received call asking to access my computer to fix errors.  India sounding gentleman said he was calling from Windows Direct Assistance to fix my computer errors.  Service offered by Windows.  He finally hung up when I explained that I had a Mac computer.  He was determined, said he was not stealing anything but was trying to fix my computer.
Very much suspect Identity Theft Scam.  Please stop this scammer.
Too many PC users do not know how easily these guys can steal everything.

Just got a call from Alex with a heavy Indian accent who told me he works for computer maintenance division of windows and my computer has linked with with their satellite and told their server that it has a virus. I quickly googled and found the other comments that this was a scam so I asked what was my name, he gave me my husbands full name and I said which windows system am I running, he didn't know only repeated the scripted message again. I said ok give me your employee ID number, he had no idea what I was talking about so I asked for the phone number of his companies headquarters and he said he can't give it out. Scam Scam Scam!

This guy called me this evening with the same story about being with microsoft and my computer sending error reports and wanting access to my computers to "fix" the problem.  What's confusing is that just the day before I had to 'update' my media player and after I did that I got a message to "verify" my operating system, (I think it was that). It said in the message that I have to verify so they can be sure that I have a 'legal(?)' copy on my computer. I freaked and just clicked cancel instead of verify and closed down my computer. So it's weird that this guy calls the very next day.  Since I have been getting all those various "Alert", "free groceries" calls, I just refused to talk to him and hung up. But I'm using a different computer because I'm afraid I may have gone to a fake site or something.  Why can't they stop these people?

I got a call from this guy and 2 minutes later (after leaving a message) called back under number 971-555-0129. It was the same guy with a heavy accent claiming his name is Jake Anderson. He said he is calling from United Funding and my loan I applied for online has been approved. -DELETE-.

First of all, I didn't apply for any loans what-so-ever. Unfortunately I did get caught up in pay day loans long time ago and someone sold my information. Luckily (as I track all my accounts) nothing has been fraudulently done on my checking account.

Guy calls after 10:00PM.  Says he wants to talk about "windows".  Told him to not call any more and hung up.  He calls again immediately after and then 2 additional times within a 3 minute period.  Subsequent calls went to voicemail.  Calls stopped.  Call again the next day several times as indicated on my phone caller history.

I'm on the Federal don't call list.  Sure doesn't help.

Call came in at 7:55 a.m. asking for my boyfriend.  Said that his computer was sending threatening messages, but when asked what they were, the woman stated I needed to turn the computer on and she'd walk me through. I told her to call back and speak with him.  Obviously a scam of some type.

Received call at 07:39 local time and call display showed V01130839220000 and 1-206-555-0100.  Heavy Indian Accent said Windows alarm and then asked if I was (name).  Told him in angry voice that it was 07:39 hrs and to get the F..... Off my line and told him I don't own a Computer.  After I hung up I wish I had played along because I know enough about computers I could have toyed with him, Oh Well maybe next time.

I had a fun time with the gentleman who called.  The first time, Gloria answered and after several minutes of trying to understand him through his rather thick Indian accent, she handed him off to me.  I started off with "Who are you and what do you want?", which locked him up for several seconds and then he replied "A super hero", to which I replied "then show me something super".  He hung up.  Not so super.

The second call I went along with things.  Same thing others experienced, what with the Windows error message stuff and such.  I played along, with my computer disconnected from the network.  He had several tech-like things to run through to the case as far as convincing the mark that there was big trouble in River City.  About the time the on-line follies were about to begin, dinner came due and I had to end the farce.  He was a good sport about it when I finished up with "I don't participate in scams"'

I get these calls every once in awhile. This time I challenged him to identify my computer, which is old and I seldom use (I've converted to OSX but keep the Windows machine because my music is there). Weird thing is that he actually DID know my CLSID. How in the world could they know my CLSID? He had me open a CMD window, then run "assoc", the last line of which showed exactly the CLSID he said it would.

I've always assumed this company was just plain phishing at random.

I asked him several times if he worked for Microsoft Corporation. At first he said no, he worked for Microsoft Windown Technical Center or some such generic. But later on, he said, yes he was working for Microsoft Corporation in Washington DC.

I asked for a call-back number, he gave me 646-843-6254. The incoming call came from 971-555-0129 and then 206-555-0114.

I see from a web search that EVERY windows computer shows that same CLSID number as the last line of assoc.

These guys really hack me off.

Letting you know....this same guy has tried several different scams....one was calling and threatening to put you in jail if you didn't respond to that call saying you owe money. They claim to be from the inspector general office. This guy has an Asian or similar accent ....he's been around awhile just keeps coming up with new scam ideas to try and get money outta people. My advice is if your cell has call block ...block what ever number he calls from...or you can simply do as I have done....he ask me a question or ask to speak to a certain someone....reguardless of what he says I tell him he has the wrong number and hang up on him....this works pretty good....I now can block his calls  ....Don't waste your time with this criminal!!
