Debt Collector
I also got a call from (206) 659-5546, who claimed to be "Douglas Morris, Attorney".  They gave me 24 hours to call back or I would "lose my property."  I didn't care because I had never heard of the property they were talking about, but felt sorry for the guy who might lose his property if they had dialed the wrong number.  I called them back but got an answering machine and they never returned my call.  I worked for a variety of attorneys for many years and can tell you this is not how a legitimate, above-board attorney operates.  I believe this is a scam. There are many dead giveaways about whether something is a scam or not, for example, you have to be SERVED with papers before anything can be done legally (it's your legal right -- yes, even debtors have rights).  Secondly, high pressure techniques like this are usually from scam artists or cruel debt collectors and, believe it or not, there ARE laws against vicious debt collectors.

Personally, I would NOT give anyone money without first verifying with the original that (1) they truly are attempting to collect a debt, and (2) that I actually owe the money.  If you don't remember owing it, don't pay - ask for proof.  It's the easily intimidated and those who give in to fear mongers that they will go after...in otherwords, "don't be a sucker".  You worked hard for your money - don't give it away to scam artists.  It only encourages them to keep on scamming innocent people.

Lastly, IF the debt is legitimate, get competent legal advice.

Debt Collector
I have received many calls looking for my son in order to serve him with court papers because of an outstanding balance  It was suggested that he would not be served if I were to settle for half of what was supposetly due.
A letter was faxed to me on letterhead paper from a company that had nothing to do with the company for which  the money was due.  I was told this had to be paid within 30 minutes or else criminal charges would be made.
Needless to say, this is a scam!  Do not give them any information or money!

Debt Collector
I got a call and called them back. They gave me 3 months to pay off an old credit card debt or they would sue me. I called the original creditor and spoke to them the charged off the account and sold it to another company I asked them if they were suing me and they said no. I called this guy back and told him what the bank said and he changed his story said the bank was not suing me he was. I called consumer rights law firm and asked them if the original creditor was not suing me over the debt if a third party collection agency could and they said no.  it was not legal for them to 1. lie to me and say the bank was suing me when in fact they were not. and 2. a third party debt collector who bought the account can not sue me.  I do not know if i was fed a bunch of lies but this guy was relentless.  I asked for payment arrangements, and threatened him with knowing my rights. and hung up on him, he called back about 5 minutes later and i did not answer because this is becoming borderline harrassment. he left me a nasty voicemail that i will save just incase, but he basically decided he could agree to some sort of payment arrangement but because i did not answer the phone ( i was also on another phone call to consumer rights again) that he was going to pull out all the stops and good luck to me in court. I called my vehicle financing company and found out that he could not attach the balance to my car note.  If they are going to sue me they have to do it in my state and this office is located in washington where as I live in tennessee.  further more the balance owed to the bank was 700. after much research I have foudn that very seldom will they sue for less than 1000.00 also i asked for something in writing and was not given that option they have 5 days to contact me in writing after being asked according to FTC.  I did sumbit a complaint to the FTC being that I spent all day on the phone yesterday trying to resolve this. I would love to make it right and pay my debt owed.  but I'm not going to be threatened with lies to get it done.  These people are junk debt buyers.  if you truly have questions call your original creditor and ask them if they are seeking legal action against you.  If they say no ask to get that in writing. you may have to submit a written request for it but if it gives you peace of mind then by all means make the effort.  Until I can deal with someone other than this horrible and abusive company I will try to resolve the issue with the original creditor...

I just got a call at my office and I live in PA where they cannot do a wage attachment.  He said they will put a lien on my car and levy my bank account.  I travel for my job and am not in a panic.  I owe 677 and they will only work with me 3 months.  I said 6 months could be possible and he said no, they will not do a long term relationship.  I can't afford an attorney either.  Did anyone else experience the same panic?

I just tried to call (617) 391-8375... It said the Majic Jack customer is not available... Obviously this is a scam... I doubt a lawyer would be using Majic Jack for their phone.

Debt Collector
I have received a few calls from this Douglas Morris guy... first call from 206-659-5546... Seattle area.... funny, might be my cousin since his name is the same & he lives in Seattle. The first call referenced to the property owner of a Spokane wa address that we never lived at with concerns on a decision about that property & the property that we currently live now in texas. There was a case number but he gave a 24 hour notice of a decision. Next call came 2 days later.. he left a message of the same content... third call came from a Boston Ma number...617-391-8375. this time he said he tried to deliver a package to the residents but no one was available to receive it... funny that I am disabled & am home 24/7 & no one came by. This time he mentioned my wifes name & to call the 206 number to set up a time to receive the package. I do know she owes some debt but that is her problem not mine. Guess I will contact my cousin & see if it is him... if so, I will try to squeeze a deal for her, otherwise she has to do the right thing & take care of the problem.

They are an attorney office that is about to take you to court and sue you for a past credit card. Let me tell you that when they do, your bill will go up by a massive amount of cash. They will get a court order to garnish your wages and they will win.

I just paid what I owed them. At first I thought it might be a scam until I called my credit card company. They forwarded my account to three collection agencies before it reached this attorney. After the attorney gets the case you have 90 days to clear it or your case will go to litigation.
