Received a call today about a $9,000 tax free government grant.  I told them I thought it was a scam and hung up.  I am glad I did after looking the number up online and seeing all the different things they are doing to other people.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I kept getting calls so I decided to call back. Some idiot that I could barely understand, was telling me that I had defaulted on an Advance American Payday loan, and that I was being sued. I told him that I absolutely did not have a loan he got very mad and started screaming at me. When I screamed back, he hung up. The caller ID on my phone said it came from Egypt. He was not offering me money, he was trying to convince me that I owed them money. This needs to be stopped!!

They called my cell number dozens of times over the past few days.  I finally answered and the guy (with a very bad accent) tried to get me to sign up for a loan.  It sounded very shady and when I pressed him for details he got flustered.  I hung up, only to have him call back a minute later.  He left a very filthy message on my voicemail.  I called back THREE times to report this to a supervisor.  First, each person who answered claimed to be a supervisor.  Second, all they would do is remove me from their call list.  The refused to acknowledge that one of their people behaved unprofessionally.

I have had numerous calls from this number. I have answered 2 times, and this lady answers and says that the IRS wants to give me $9200.00 tax free to do what I want with it, but need a credit card number or a bank account number to send the money. Last time I was asked what was my birth date. I told her if you the government, then you should know how old I am and what my birth date is. She repeated her question, and I answered her with the same way and hung up. Sounds very fishy. Why would the federal government call me from Seattle Washington?

I got a call from this number saying I was approved for a loan of $1000-$4000 US dollars. I was told that this was an installment loan from Advance America US Payday Loan. I was also told that before I could receive the loan I need to go to my local Walmart or local drug store and buy a Green Dot Money Pak card and put the first monthly payment of $150 on it (was told for a $4000 loan I would pay $150/mos for 30 months with an interest rate of 11.2%). I asked what the card was for and was told just to verify that I could make my payments. The representative, Neil Thomas (a man with a very thick India accent), told me that once I got the card and put the funds on it I needed to call back and once the funds where verified the loan would be sent to a local western union office for me to pick up. I told the man that I needed to speak with my husband first and was given an extension number of 347 to call him back. When I hung up I researched the green dot card and found that many people have been scammed with it. When I tried to call the number back it rang forever but no one answered. These people should be shot! My family is in a very desperate financial situation so I have been inquiring about loans online and for them to call and get my hopes up is so wrong! Luckily I am smarter than that and researched first so I didn't lose any money to these people. I hope this helps others to make smart decisions about who you provide financial information too. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

I got 2 calls from this number in less than 2 hrs. I don't know who the person said they were. It was a bad connection, with a bunch of static, so I couldn't really understand everything she was saying. From what I could understand, she said I was going to be given some money and was trying to verify my address.
