Yes, it's a scam.  You never have to pay to get a grant.  Of course, you can't get a grant anyway, unless you've actually applied - and there is no application fee for a grant either.  More on this type of scam here:

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

If you get this call, please report it to:

Got a call from a heavily accented Indian man claiming to be at 200 SW Independence in DC.  He said my disabled daughter had qualified for an $8000 grant.  Grants are not required to be repaid.  Can't see the US Government just giving away to US citizens,  only foreign countries for foreign aid.  Needless to say I wont be calling the 206-905-9357 number he gave.  He even gave us  confirmation number and a security code.  Said his name was Kevin and he was at ext 101.  Kept having him to repeat things as his Indian accent was real heavy.

Too funny, so I received a call that I would be getting $8,000 from the Federal Reserve Bank of NY who will call me back from this number 206-905-9357 Steven Hagar x 8821. 200 Independence Ave. SW Washington DC 20201 is what they say is their address. Do they really think anyone will fall for this. They are definitely in another country as there was a long pause after any of my answers until they responded. Please do not take their calls as they come up as Unavailable 6-3660 on the caller ID. I really hope others that get their calls do not fall for this scam.

I loved talking with this man.  IT is the second time that he has called me and he sounds just like Borat.  I gave him my best chuck Bronson voice and he just kept talking.  Of course it is a scam, why would you ever think it is real? If anyone thought this was real in any way then they should send all of their hard earned cash, not just $200.

Ya know the one thing I will never understand is how anyone over the age of 15 would not see that this is a scam these people are running. Why would you bother to go and get a prepaid card or go to Western Union and wire money to someone? Jesus! Has America become that STUPID? That's why these scammers in Nigeria and other God-forsaken countries get away with this crap! WHEN was the last time you heard that the USA GIVES money away? I mean, REALLY? People trying to scam others really spikes my blood pressure but knowing there are enough idiots out there willing to fall for this out of sheer stupidity or unmitigated greed, really makes me sad...get off your damn painkillers, your beer or whiskey, stop watching Maury and ANY reality TV shows, watch CNN, then you would already know about this stuff, get out and exercise, eat right, stay away from fast food which is poison (and please don't give me that bs that you can't afford good food, buy a head of lettuce, some tuna fish in cans, tomatoes, cucumbers and eat that. Everything your body needs comes from the ground) you will feel much better, your brain will function properly so that when these evil pigs call you you'll know how to deal with them.

He called me crazy and you f******* crazy lady. I hung up on him. Must be a scam. He asked why we didn't call the day we got the call. told him we were very busy. Said we weren't eligible for money now since we didn't call right away. So I asked him to not call us anymore then he said we would regret for rest our lives not getting this grant. Oh well. guess have to give to someone else. that is when he got crazy and started swearing on the phone. If sounds to good to be true must be.  I don't know  how these people sleep at night with all these scam calls to people and some people believe it and loose all their money they have worked so hard for.
