my phone has been active for less than 48 hours - it is a new number and yet they are already calling.  apparently do not call lists do not help.  I guess i should have requested a private number. I wasnt here to answer and voicemail isnt set up so i dont know who they were or what they wanted....

This is a good one. The caller ID display actually says: 4-207-436-9660. It starts out with a recorded message how my auto extended warranty is about to run out and I need to talk with someone to stop that from happening. I pressed "1" to talk with "someone" who quite quickly hung up when I responded "no" to the question about wanting more information about their scam. I was really wanting to commend them on the good job with spoofing the Caller ID data. (I gotta find out how to do that...)
