I work from home, so I'm used to receiving calls from seemingly random numbers.  Usually they're requesting information about the company I work with. (I use a Google Voice account for my business that screens my calls, so I know who it is before I actually answer.)  I missed a call from this number, but when I called back, I heard a recording saying, "All circuits are busy now. Please try your call again later."    That's when I looked up the number.  I'm glad I found this post.  If they call back, I'll just ignore it.

I received this call today in Arizona. Said something about me being eligible for a $100 gift card to Walmart and other stores. I asked how I got this "reward" and was told it was because I had filled out online surveys for other stores. I asked which online surveys I had filled out for which other stores, but the caller could not answer. They wanted me to pay some $4.99 fee for them to mail me my "rewards" cards. Of course I said I did not want to proceed any further or give them any information, and I asked to be removed from their list.

This number called my cell this afternoon.  This kind of fraudulent nonsense is the best reason for call-blocking apps for smart phones.  I have my call-blocker configured to block both calls and SMS/MMS from ALL numbers that are not in my Contacts lists.  Because I "rooted" (aka hacked) my Android phone shortly after purchasing it, the app I use works in such a way that my phone doesn't even ring or light up my screen when calls or text messages are blocked.  Best of all, I can even block my service provider's (Cricket) unwanted text and multimedia marketing messages.

Technology is a wonderful thing but the more Big Business tries to limit and dictate how we can use the technologies and gadgets we purchase from them, the more power they put in the hands of those who are criminally-minded.  As an technical professional, I have a bit of an advantage in knowing how to do online research to find the information I needed to correctly "hack" my phone without turning it into a useless paper weight, in  addition to my own knowledge and experience in electronics and computers.

However, many of the online forums that I found (like XDA-Developers) provide good tools and detailed instructions for how to "root" an Android/"Jail-break" an Apple phone.  I'm less sure about Windoze phones and Blackberry phone.  Such tools/instructions are usually dependent on the Manufacturer and Model of the phone (Samsung Galaxy 5S, for example).

I only point this information out, on the chance that some might decide, as I did, that they want better control over what apps are on their phone (not that bloatware and useless demo apps/games that the service providers steal your valuable system memory for) and have the option to use beneficial apps like "Root CallBlocker".  Sure there are other call blocking apps, like Mr. Number (which I found to be iffy, at best), but none of them can block a call or text message from your service provider or block calls without ringing the phone at least once.

For those, that don't want to worry about damaging their phone or for whom the concept of "hacking" their phone (their own property, mind you)...simply follow the tried and true principle that has worked for decades...don't answer the phone or return the call.  If they don't leave a message, it was obviously not important and an almost certainty that it is a spammer or telemarketer...or worse...a political robo-call.  And ALWAYS research any unknown call number online, like those of you reading this have wisely been doing.

Best wishes in your mutual fight against those who want to steal your money, your credit, and even your identity.

Same thing--random call from Maine no relation to myself or anyone I know. Rang once and hung up. I called back and got some random recording. For sure a scam. Curious how they got their string of numbers?

6/4/14 - Rec'd calls from 207-578-3045 located in Portland, Maine contacting a Southern California Number - leaves no message.  Long trail of web documentation indicating user of this number is a scammer looking for Credit Card information.

I just received tha call from this number. I answered but it was ended instantly and I didn't bother to call back. Anyone who doesn't leave a message doesn't get a call back. I have never called this area code before though and am entirely perplexed as to how they may have gotten my number. Perhaps it's simply random?

Indeed this is a scam number. I have never called anyone in Maine or near maine and I received this call today. I even live across the country. I hung up as soon as I heard the automated voice and I mentally labeled this number as "telemarketer, douche trying to get my creditcard information".

Called my cell phone and left no message.  I read the posting above and put them in my phone directory as "scammer" because Verizon will only let you block 5 numbers without paying (yet another Verizon rip off).  In the process I accidentally dialed the number and got a recording that said essentially the same thing as quoted above.  It just kept repeating itself.

This number was shown on my cell but no message was left.  I almost returned the call because I'd recently called that area code (from NYC) to make a hotel reservation. But it didn't look familiar so I checked it against the number I had called -- it wasn't the same so I checked this web site. I'm glad I did.
What bothers me is that I received this phony call from area 207 just a couple of days after I called the hotel up there. Did they somehow get my number from me making that call?

"207" Area Code FRAUD and SCAM ALERT!  No voice message left.  I returned their call because it was from my local area code and exchange number.  They claimed that using a Web Site of one of their associate companies made me eligible for a $100.00 rebate card usable at dozen or more locale stores.  All they wanted was $4.99 to mail it and asked for my Credit Card info.  When I offered to pay by a more secure method they said "Good Bye" and hung up.  A obvious way to get your CC number.
