After a long pause, a lady with a very nasally voice said "hello". I hung up. Don't want any of what she's trying to do. Why do they all sound nasally? LOL

People are requesting that they be removed from the calling list and are being hung up on and/or ignored. These calls are not, by definition, "legitimate".
JohnZap 2014-03-06 18:27:54 Unknown
The calls are in fact legitimate. I receive a number of free "magazines" that are industrial publications every month and they all hire outside services to confirm your information usually once a year. It just prevents them from sending these magazines to the wrong people or perhaps someone that has changed careers and no longer works in the field that the magazine is meant for.
Some of the magazines I get are for the metalworking industry and the woodworking industry.
These are not the type of magazines you find on a news stand. They are usually only 30-40 pages and mostly filled with advertisements from manufacturers in your field.
There is no money changing hands, they don't ask for any credit card info or any private info. Just want to verify your address and if you still want to continue receiving.
When you sign up to receive them, you must supply a phone number. Knowing that they will eventually contact you, many people put down a phony number not to get annoyed. That's wrong, but they still do it. So you may be getting a call from one of those.
Many magazines now allow you to renew via email which is much easier and more convenient.

I have been getting anywhere from 2 to 8 calls a day from this number. I own three separate phone numbers that are used for advertising for my business, and figure they are cycling through them. When I finally answer, there is 20 or so seconds of silence before they hang up. I have NO landline, so all of them are coming through on a cell phone (thus, no caller ID that tells me location or name, only a number). Very frustrating.

Let it go to voice mail...very annoying

same call here...same number. woman with indian dialect. I told her to stop, say no more, and take me off your call list now. She said it was about pulbications. I said do you understand what i'm saying...I'll say it again slowly "take me off of your call list" this will be the last time I tell you that..next I report you and your company to the Federal Consumer Protection Agency and hung up.
cat 2014-01-15 15:10:07 Unknown
i wish someone would blow these companies up that do this. We are trying to work and don't have time for these bogus waste of time calls. Never mind most of them aren't from this country of ours, the USA.
Receptionist 2014-01-14 21:43:32 Unknown
They will just get another # and keep calling, a federal building is not special when it comes to these calls.

Received calls from this number, the last one today, January 8,2014 @ 1:35 pm. I answered and no one spoke even though I heard background noise. Comes up unknown on caller Id. On previous calls, no messages were left and some hangups. Sick and tired of these calls. Annoying and harassing.
Same thing happened 2014-01-08 19:20:08 Unknown
Same thing happened here at work - but this is a federal building and they will prosecute scam numbers that call. Maybe they finally messed up and will be stopped.
Melissa 2014-01-08 16:31:09 Unknown

I got the first call 3 days ago. About 9:40 am, asking me if I want to renew my Grower Talks magazine. I said no. Of course that didn't make a difference b/c this lady who I could barely understand doesn't take no as an answer. Ok, whatever, I'll take them to work with the other 20 copies we get.
Next day, same call, same time, different lady but same country. I got nasty and hung up.
Today, same story, only I told them if they called again, I'd sue them. (Oprah said to say that once). So, I bet tomorrow at 9:40 am I will get the same call. I wonder how long this goes on?

Just got a call at work from this number. Stated they were the Government Computer Network and named off someone they were looking to contact. I took her info and number and then found this thread. She sounded far eastern maybe with a lot of noise in the background. Like a call center. I am reporting it to our IT security.

I do not know what happened when I tried to write that my husband DOES NOT work for the government.
Whenever I try to write a response in these various online forums, for some reasons, my responses never appear to be literate or grammatical. At any rate, I did not intentionally try to write an unintelligible response.

I just received a call from this number at 2 p.m. this afternoon. The caller had a very thick accent which sounded Asian to me, but she said that she was from Jamaica. I never heard a Jamaican speak with an unintelligible accent before. nevertheless, the caller called me asking me if my husband were employed by the state or local government to determine whether or not he were legible to received a free government publication concerning computing. I have received these calls before. I answered telling the caller that my husband but not work for the government. However, this call was an invasion of privacy and a Do Not Call List violation. I do not like the fact that this entity, whatever it may be, has my home address, my home phone number, and the name of my husband's business which he has on the side. he does contracting on the side and works out of a home office. We do not have a shingle on our door. We live in a residential area. We do not advertise, also. To may way of thinking, this person had no business calling me at home at all, especially under the pretext of giving away a free publication which we never received before. This is about the second call I have had this year concerning receiving a free publication about government computing after answering questions concerning the household's eligibility to receive it. As far as I am concerned this call was another intrusive market survey of some sort. I reported the call to the FTC as a Do Not Call List violation.

I got a phone call at 6:45 am. Rude woman on the phone, tried to sell me magazines. I explained that it's 6:45am and that I have a private phone number. I asked to talk to a manager and got hung up on. Reported to the FCC for a harassing 6:45 am phone call.
