Did you stay at Yosemite or Reno, NV in July 2012?  I started getting telemarketing calls after completing a phone survey for a Reno, NV hotel I stayed in.  The telemarketing calls got worse after I received a automated calls from Yosemite regarding the hantavirus outbreak during my stay.  Was my phone number sold by the hotel's survey contractor or Yosemite (actually Deleware North Companies)??  Did this happen to you too??  Solution: Never take a phone survey.  Never answer a number you don't recognize.

Just got an automated call about lowering my electric bill.   I hung up, this is the second call within a half hour about this scam from 2 different numbers.

Thank you for the fcc link - I just filed a complaint - at least the government form affords one the ability to input several #'s that keep calling.

They call at least 3 times a day from various numbers:  209-220-1940; 360-633-9027; 908-388-1152.  I live with someone and don't even have an electric account.  Extremely annoying, and hopefully all the complaints will result in something being done about it.

Called offering to lower my gas bill.  Don't press any buttons or say anything when they ask - that proves you're a real phone number.  They've called from different numbers about 6 times in the past 3 days.  Besides this, I never get scam calls on my cell.  Why now?

I never answer calls from numbers I don't know.  if they don't leave a message, I look them up and end up here, more often than not.

They use multiple numbers coming from, apparently CA, Washington state, NJ, NY MD and a host of other places. If you are on the DO NOT CALL LIST, they can be fined (which we are). We pressed the number for "not interested" and they keep calling back. Very aggressive and a complete turn-off.

I got a call today from a new number 209-220-1940 "LOWER ELECTRIC" I did not answer or let it go to answering machine. Reading the posts here I see it's that same old automated call about deregulation and CON ED . I believe that this call was generated by a telemarketing company working for Spark Energy they are known for this type of call to cellphones and land lines.  I have received calls like this from them on my cellphone and complained to them by email. they did respond and stopped. it seems that they are responsible for these calls using several numbers 206-397-1111 ENERGY DISCOUNT,  306-397-1111 . One thing to be aware of if you live in NYC that there are about 50 ESCO companies that are listed some of which have been reported to be part of this telemarketing scam. Spark Energy is one also City Power and Gas, Browns fuel Service, Ameristar Energy. A list of all the companies can be found on the CON ED website poweryourway.com the list includes companies that offer gas and electric services and may be small companies that are expanding to other states trying to get new costumers .
