When caller reached my answering machine -- whose outgoing message states that all calls are screened -- the caller than hung up.

I am on the do not call list and I received a call from this number today.
Why are they allowed to call???

Maybe we are slowly having an impact on them.  They can't even keep their own phone equipment working!  Oh well, one can only hope.

It's a call center trying to sell something they're calling the "Heart Program" which will allegedly enable people with terrible credit, people who are underwater with their mortgage, etc. to refinance at "very low interest rates."

I'm on the FTC no-call list. When I told the person that, and that they're breaking the law, the guy said something about how they're representing "Sears Financial Services" and that I should complain to them directly, then he hurriedly hung up.

Go to the Federal Trade Commission's Do-Not-Call Registry website to report them! I sure as heck did.

They're predators preying on people who are about to lose their homes. What scum!
