These calls are being generated by a scamming company. They also use the phone # 818-254-8592.
The goal of this scam is to convince you that you are being investigated, you owe money, and they try to intimidate you to send money. Speaking with them, threatening them, or even answering their calls only encourages them even more.

The victims are all targeted the same way- they use online loan applications to gather your information.

Men with strong Indian accents will call and tell you that they are from the Department of Law and Investigation- there is no such thing.
They also go by American names, "Ken Harris", "Kevin Rogers", "Ryan Smith", "Kevin Smith".... they can't even keep their names straight and will change them daily.

When you demand information, they just keep cycling the conversation by saying that you are being sued by a company called "Cash Net" and they are going to get you. They will cuss at you, scream at you, threaten you, and call you over and over again in a row.

The best solution is to simply block their numbers, don't answer their calls, don't conversate with them if you do answer, and don't fall for the scam.

But because I'm not the type of woman that will sit back and take the abuse... I signed up for an online payday loan using their own harassing phone #'s, created a few fake Craig's List ads listing their phone #'s and their fake names, and signed up their phone #'s to receive calls with free information about various products....
If they want to call and harass me along with all of you everyday.... lets give them a taste of their own medicine.  ;-)

Prank Call
These people called my husband's cell this time, twice last night.  Someone with a heavy accent who stated they were calling from CFI about a payday loan from Cash Net.  Like what the heck is CFI, right?  I've been getting junk mail every week from CashNet to apply for a payday loan, but just throw it in the trash.  Yes, I had previously applied for payday loans via the internet, but they never approve it.  I just get these phone calls from the scammers who have apparently gotten all of my information.  When this happened last year, they had called my work, sister-in-law, and my sister, scaring everyone into believing I was in some big trouble.  Each time, I Googled the phone number from which they called to find a site like this where others were getting the same phone calls.  Also last year, I filled out an online complaint form to the FBI.  The FBI website states that they get thousands of complaints, so it is impossible for them to contact you after submitting one.  I understand that, though something needs to be done about these foreign b*****ds.  They will use different phone numbers, so more than likely, cell phones.  They are pulling people's info from the internet.  I've noticed the payday loan websites have the security logos on them and tell you they are secure websites, but apparently not.  If the FBI cannot catch these guys, then these loan websites need to be removed.  I know people will get calls about going back to school, weight loss programs, vacations, or buying into a home based business, when they never even inquired about those things, just because your information can be pulled from other sites, or even your ip address. We just have to be careful.

This man is very rude and harassing.  He threatened a lawsuit if I didn't pay the amount to make it go away (pay 1/3 of the so-called loan or a lawsuit at like 6X the amount I had inquired about a pay-day loan - WHICH I NEVER GOT).  He then threatened those that I put down as a reference with the same thing.  When I told him NO WAY - he abruptly told me to be home tomorrow between 2 and 3 PM to receive the summons, never answered my question as to where this "court date" would be held and hung up.  Boy - people are shady.
