Your BF's caller is either an extortion scammer or an abusive debt collector. If your BF owes no debt, you know the caller's a scammer. The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710 but the scam can obviously be expanded to include any kind of loan. If your BF owes a debt, then the caller's an abusive debt collector who may have bought the debt from the original creditor. The caller has broken several articles of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf  Section 809 describes what collectors are supposed to provide to debtors at first contact. Section 807 describes illegal collector actions. Section 813 describes what you can sue for. Abusive collectors are relying on consumers not knowing about what ought to happen in legal debt collection to illegally scare them into paying. Our elders are under constant threat by scams of all colors and stripes, our only defense is vigilance.

The people who make calls like this rely on scare tactics and they have just enough personal information about you to make them ALMOST sound legitimate. I can just imagine them calling some little old lady who is a widow and scaring the crap out of her by threatening to issue a warrant for her arrest if she doesn't pay them right now!!!! Shame on them!! (Actually I'd like to call them a few very colorful words that would even make a sailor blush -- but I won't on this website).

Be careful of the people calling from this number. My boyfriend was left a message at his work to call this number back, and we think it may be a scam. They told him they were trying to collect a debt from way back in 1999 and threatened to send a summons for him or issue a warrant for his arrest if he didn't pay the amount they said he owed right now!! They said he owed $1500 and if he paid right then on the phone they would take $800 for what he owed. They knew the last four numbers of his social security #. Please be careful and do not give them your entire social security or any personal information until you check things out for yourself.

I recieved a restricted number from a male advising me to call 216-560-1924 and ask to speak to James Montgomery.  I was also given a case number.  I was told if I do not call this number in 24 hours that legal action will be taken against me.  The male caller said that this could be in reference to a court appearance, child support, or divorce documentations.  When I called the number, there was a female recording saying the number was out of service.  Any thoughts?

Female voice advising of a legal decision about my property that will be closed if I dont call 210 560 1924 and ask for mr. blah blah......

Several calls, some back to back, message with a "case number" and 24hr. requested return call or legal ramifications.
