I get a symphony of these calls on my three phones everyday.  I just ignore them.  The interesting thing is, that even if you shcedule a payment, they still harass you.  I had a Gold card for 18 years and lost my job and called them proactively to make a payment arrangement and they still harass me.  They have cancelled my card and told me I could "reapply" when the balance is paid off.  Thankfully I have one more payment and then they can go pound sand.

To best deal with these calls, add them to your contacts (cell phones), give them any name you want, and make sure to check on the option at the bottom (Androids have this, but I believe iPhones too) to direct this calls straight to your voicemail. You will never have to bother again with all the numbers that you do exactly that. I hope this helps.....;)

Thanks Almost Caught Up. I am also receiving calls from just about all of the same numbers.  I do not and have never used American Express but you can be sure that I never will. Thanks for the info and good luck.

We've been getting harassing phone calls consisting of nothing but annoying tones from this number, as well as other "unknown caller" numbers. The calls started right after we hit a rough patch and got behind in payments to American Express. We suspected it was AmEx, but didn't know for sure, UNTIL they slipped up and used THREE of those same phone numbers to instead deliver an automated message ASKING US TO CALL AMERICAN EXPRESS. (It's a good thing we logged those numbers!)

So, if you're getting calls from any of the numbers listed below, perhaps you (or someone in the household) is behind in payments to American Express?

In our case, almost all the calls are pure harassment, consisting of loud "beeeep beeeep beeeep" tones that go on and on. When the answering machine answers the phone, the tones continue until the machine times-out and disconnects. When we answer the phone, we are also greeted by the same loud tones. These are not telephone company type tones; at least, not like any I've ever heard before.

Generally, we get about 2 to 4 (or more) of these "tone" calls per day, coming in from any of the following numbers:

A few calls from these numbers were "silent"...no tones, no nothing.

A few calls of the loud tones have come in from blocked IDs (unknown numbers).

Anyway, embarrassing as circumstances are, I figure someone else might find this info helpful.

Never had an American Express. Good luck trying to get blood from a stone.

I answered a call from a number that I thought was someone I was waiting fora call from.
It was an AMEX collection person.  I spoke to this young lady who became very argumentative very fast.
I had been working with AMEX as I owned a business with a guy who turned out to be a scumbag and had been stealing from the company for years.  He hired his best buddy a few years earlier as a person he needed to do scheduling.  As the years went by, he and my ex-partner kept moving him up and before I knew it, he was overseeing the contracts and money that was coming in and out of the company.
"Major Warning" for you people who in business with a person who is more concerned about their lifestyle than the work the company is doing!  I had enough, hired an attorney who told me be get out and he would settle everything in court.  I learned a very good lesson, "corporate credit" is very different from "consumer credit".  I was stupid and signed my name under a supposed "Incorporated" business.
When I left,these guys raided the company credit,even an line of credit account, that, "here me" once you sign for it and it gets paid back, the company officers and reopen the line and take it, and you are on the hook for it!  Anyway,back to the call.I told this girl that I was already working with AMEX and that if she wants anything, sent me the bill.I even gave her my address.  She stated yelling at me and calling me names and telling me that I owe this and that> I told her to send me the bill and I will call AMEX back.  I have never been sent anything from  them, no bills, nothing!  But I keep getting calls from different numbers and if I dont answer,they never leave a message. I have checked the numbers and they all have been from these "scumbag" collection companies!  If you guys say this is AMEX collection, I'm sure you are right!  They have been calling non-stop from a half dozen numbers and never leave a message.  I don't understand, are they hired to collect the money?  All they seem to do is harass people, but don't care about the money!  I guess they bill AMEX and others per call???
