Use the same deceptive sales tactics as The Official Yellow Pages, but The Official Yellow Pages are on my no call list, so when confronted with the $11,000 FTC fine they hung up.

THE REP ON THE OTHER END TOLD ME HE WAS Official Yellow Pages AND WANTED TO VERIY OUR BUSINESS INFORMATION...I told him that I did not okay any information to any other yellow pages for our business but Dex.
I told him I'm not giving him any premission. I said NO! and he hung up.

Received a call from this number today.  It was unknown to me so I did not answer it. . .when I checked the number, this forum came up.

They must do this about every month or so, I did not answer but I don't know anyone in New York, Manhattan either.

Indian accent said that he was my Official Yellow Pages Rep (after asking for manager).  Told him I no longer have yellow page listings and he just continued to rattle off my business name and address - I placed him on hold - until HE hung up.  This ties them up a little longer from bothering other people.

Got a call today from this number but I didn't answer it and found this forum on a google search.

some guy called me from 212-440-9180 to the Waupun area at my self storage complex. When he would not go away and kept calling I got rude to him to the point where he started calling me from his personell cell phone in which one time forgot to block the number 920-239-4573. This person must live in the area and is still harassing me as of today.

have had several calls from this guy with heavy accent, wanting to verify information for yellow page ad, but when I started asking questions about who and what yellow pages, he hung up.  Wish I knew how to stop this crap, I am a busy business woman and do not have time for this stuff, and I don't have time to turn him in, even if I knew where to turn him in.  Any ideas?

They keep calling me with the same spiel...yellow pages, blah,blah...
I called their number, and it says disconnected, why is this?

Heavy India type accent claiming to be my Yellow Page rep. I said, "No you're  not and hung up".

My business has been called a couple of times by this number; the caller has a heavy, nigh-incomprehensible Indian accent. They represent "CBC" and want to "continue my ad" in their version of the Yellow Pages. I asked for details, and they want $399 to list the business contact info on a cheap-looking link site; I wouldn't want my business there if it were free, and I'm certainly not going to pay hundreds of dollars for that privilege.

They claim (each time they call) that I had this service last year, and that I'm getting a special discount for being an existing customer. I asked them, "So, you're telling me that I paid $399 for this last year?"

"Yes, sir you have -"

"No. If you charged me for this last year, it was not authorized by me. You need to refund my money right now."

"I'm sorry, sir, I cannot -"

"No, let me be clear. If you received a payment from me somehow, whether by credit card or check or whatever, it was not authorized. You need to refund my money immediately."

"I'm sorry, sir, it can't be done." Caller hung up.  Of course, I've never paid these people a dime, and we both know it, but it gets them off my phone for a few months.

Additionally, they will apparently record you saying "Yes" if/when you say it (after asking if this is So-and-so, for example) and they use it to claim that you agreed to some expensive magazine subscription, which they charge to your phone bill somehow. Don't say yes to them for any reason.

I received a call today, same story as everyone else. Very heavy accent, said he was from "The Official Yellow Pages", needed to update my ad, etc. In our real yellow pages book, we don't have an ad, just the line listing that we get free for having a business phone. I told him we don't have an ad, he kept insisting that we did. I told him to send it to me in writing and he said he couldn't. I finally just hung up the phone. I called the number back from my caller ID and it had a funny, fast busy signal. This is definitely a scam. No legitimate company would refuse to send something in writing.

This number came up a few times, so I looked it up first and found all the postings. So I answered it and it was the foreign accent trying to get the person who does yellow pages.  I told him it was at another office and wanted to give him another number, but he wouldn't take it stating he had the number, which he doesn't because it doesn't exist.  I wanted to give him the local police number to try.

Same people as above called today using the same deceptive sales tactics as the Official Yellow Pages $399. The problem with them calling me was I have a contract with the Official Yellow Pages saying they will not call my business, so they hung up on me. I called 212/440-9180 and got no service, then I called the Official Yellow Pages and told them I was going to turn them into the State of SD and the FTC which would fine them $11,000. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Official Yellow Pages.

I had a nice argument with one of these guys today.  He told me he was going to tell my boss.  Amazing...

FYI - I was transferred to another dept. in this company and the second person who spoke with me identified the company as the National Business to Business Yellow Pages.

When I answer the call, no one is there.  Get this same call at least once a week.

Have received 2 phone calls now within a week from this #. They say they are the "Official Yellow Pages" and want to confirm my information. When I ask if this listing will cost us anything I am told YES...$399. I told him I am not interested. He insisted that we already have a listing in their book and they just want to confirm that all information is correct. I told him we have 1 listing in a phonebook and theirs was not the one, that I wouldn't confirm anything and I hung up on him. I can't believe the audacity that the guy had arguing with me that we did have an ad in their book. We are a small business (7 employees total...including owners - I am one of the owners)...do these people think we are that stupid? Please fill out the complaint form that has been provided by Robin and hopefully these people will stop!!

WELL THAT MAKES 3 TIMES TODAY FOUND THIS WEB SITE THINK IT WOULD HELP IF WE ALL FILE OUT THIS COMPLAINT FORM WITH THE FTC????????????

this is like the 6th time they have called me. i'm at work and cant' pick up my cell phone. when i try to call back it stated that this number is not in service. they need to stop calling. i have family in nyc and it s cares me when isee the 212 area code but i now know that they are scammers due to you guys writing about it.. thank you!

Alright this is getting insane, how do we get they calls to stop, have been getting calls 2 times a day from 212-440-9180, always asking for manager, tell the managers in Dallas, have told them to stop calling that we were not interested, they just hang up after telling them this BUT they call back.

A lady with heavy accent keeps calling me and says the same as above...she has called three different days now.  This is what I do know for sure:  These scammers are NOT connected with Yellow Book as my brother is a sales rep for Yellow Book and he can confirm this is not his company.

I have also received this same information in the mail in the past and it is very innocent and official looking...in fine print it says that you okay the the cost of $399 for being listed.

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE INFO THAN THEY ALREADY HAVE AND DO NOT CONFIRM THE INFO THEY DO HAVE.

They are dicks and they can find this sounding board as easy as we did so be careful what you share with these scammers.

I did a reverse lookup on the number after calling it and getting a phony disconnect message.  I found out it is a verizon number.  Called Verizon and reported it they are going to take action.

Got a call again, 7.24.07.  Same crap. Indian accent, asked for office manager. Said he was from the yellow pages.  I asked which one he said The Official Yellow Pages.  I asked if it was different from Yellow Book b/c i was trying to find out what company he was calling from so i could call back later and tell them to stop calling. He hung up as soon as i asked.  This is at least the 5th call from them and its getting old.  Def. not a legit business call.  I wish i knew who to call to stop the harrasment. Its getting old.

Got a call this morning and the guy with heavy India accent. He asks for the office manager and I think it is a scam so I ask him in return what kind of listing you referring too and are your company related to AT&T or BellSouth. I also ask is this free listing, he said no and I told him our office is not interested and he hung up the phone immediately.  I tried to call back and want to complain how rude he is and take my office phone number off the list but the phone number is not in service.  This is definitely a scam.

Received a call from this number this morning.  Same as above, heavy accent, could not understand very well and I kept on saying that I did not have a listing with them.  He insisted that I did and he wanted to verify information.  I told him that I would not verify, was not interested and hung up.

Received a call from this number today, same story. Heavy accent, sounded East Indian. Asked for office manager for my company, and he had the company name correct. I told him that I was not interested in renewing my listing. He asked if I wanted to cancel my existing listing and I said "yes".

This is the third or fourth time someone has called about this, but each time before, it was from an "Unknown" number.

So I also told him that I had told the previous three people the same thing.

I think this is a scam - if you agree to the "updated listing" then you get a bill for some sort of "yellow pages" listing.

asked for an employee of the previous company at this location.  I told him he was no longer an employee and to please place us on their "do not call list." because we have started to receive multiple calls asking for the same person. He hung up immediately. No good bye or thank you. The caller did sound of a middle eastern or indian background.  We have also received a few calls lately asking to update phonebook info as the previous comment states, however i am not certain to the purpose of this call.

Said they were confirming our Yellow Pages info.  Hard to understand/heavy, heavy accent! Told them I couldn't authorize anything and to call another day.
