Called saying they were Advantage and wanted to speak with the person in charge of our phone service. Would not leave a message when I told them that person was "unavailable."

JERKS hung up on my business answering machine. Nothing on Caller I.D. but the phone number and that is usually a tip-off since legitimate calls always to give a name.

Called on my business line. Didn't recognize the number so didn't answer. After reading the comments, glad I didn't waste my time.

Jeremy called me from Preferred Inc today telling me he was calling on behalf of AT&T and he was going to save me money due to the rate increase. I asked him what rate I was paying now and if he would send me the information in an email to my company email address. At that point Jeremy got defensive and said that I was an idiot, he was TELLING me what he had to offer. Needless to say, that conversation ended. On a side note, I then attempted to contact my AT&T small business rep to inquire about the call, and after 5 mins without speaking to a human, I disconnected. Sad state of affairs.

Same scam. They are now calling themselves Preferred. Said they were contracted by AT&T. Asked me how many lines I had, I told him if he was really working contracted by AT&T he would already have that information and I hung up.

Some puke called asking for the owner, by name. We have it set up however so that when we get those calls, we IMMEDIATELY realize it's a spam or fraud call. This time, the clown says, "I'm calling on behalf of your phone company to advise you of two new FCC changes that will affect your bill." So, I ask him WHO my phone company is. "I don't know, I'm calling to tell you about two new FCC changes." So, I ask him, WHO he REPRESENTS. Dipstick gets all huffy and asks if I want a BBB complaint form and hangs up.
Real winner.

Said they were authorized to call on behalf of at&t and I told them I did not want anything. Person would not disconnect after I told him repeatedly I did not want his call. Would not clearly identify who he was

YES received the call today...lady was rude and really didn't want to give me any info on the company called Advantage. I said if she was working to save my company money then why didn't she know my name and what phone company I was with. I just told her there is a lot of scam out there and that I didn't need anyone to call me up and be so rude to me. Thanks but no Thanks

Cautiously answered... NYC could be real, but 98% of all phone activity seems to be fraudulent anymore. Didn't speak, but background clutter noise... I said "five seconds...." and gave it about two. Hung up to speaker, i.e. I could still hear, but they couldn't. "Sir? This is Monica...." and then she mumbled and hung up. Clearly a BS call.

Yes a scam! My business phone carrier said they're NOT affiliated with them and I requested to put a block on my account to prevent - as it was called back in the day: phone "Slammers".
I would suggest as I did letting them know you talked with your phone provider who never heard of your co. and if they don't remove my number/and calls I'm reporting "YOU" and your co. to the proper authorities!
Haven't had a call in over 2 weeks - so far. Hope this helps.

2-21-12 call from 212-818-0120 claims to be w/ Advantage a currier of my buisness phone comp. I no that they are not, she was rude and said yes they are. When I asked for her name and I.D. # she laughed and hung up on me. My phone Comp. says these shaddy courriers do this all the time, and will lie to get you to give them your info. then you will get a bill from them for switching, and then you play hell getting it off your regular phone bill. Dont fall for the scam!

The July 2011 post below is something I found on another website, see below:
Received a call from this number July 2011. Said they were from ATF, American Telephone/Telecommunications something. She was a little rude when I would question her motives. Said they are in charge of all the lines above the phone company and there are new federal laws to reduce my line charge from 16.99 per line to 5.00 per line.
And I personally received the same call to my business line at work on February 2012. They were a few minor differences, see below:
Call came in on February 2012. Said they were from ATF. The gentleman seemed nervous & was stumbling w/words but he could have been a new person. He kept rambling on about saving all this money per phone call & how much they would be saving us per month but wanted me to be connected to some other person to approve the changes. While I was on "hold" I could hear everything in the background & there were people talking (I guess on phones to other people) but I could also hear a radio on the background playing some rap music. I hung up before the connecting party could join the line & they tried to call back 3 times but I didn't answer. Not sure if it was a scam or not but it just felt sketchy to me so I went w/my instinct.

Wanted to speak to a manager in charge of the phone bill. I told her that person was not available. Then she says "Maam, I need to speak to a manager now", I again told her NO ONE was available.

I tried calling the number back but it was disconnected.

They called my business phone 7/21/2011, it was silent then moved me to a directory. I attempted to find someone in the directory to simpluy vent a little frustration that had built up over the day (i like telemarketers for that) but was unable to connect to any one person. *69ed them and the number was disconnected, or at least that is what the machine said. Not sure, but if you find a name, I would love to take out some verbal aggression on them. Better them then my dog.

I was pretty confused since our company doesn't pay 16.99 to start with. She insisted there was a letter in our bill a few months back about it but I cannot confirm or deny that. She wanted to verify phone lines but could only tell me the one she called. Then when I told her I didn't even pay 16.99 per line now she was telling me to go get my phone bill. I told her I don't have time for this and she said it was a follow up call for me not responding to the insert in my bill.
In this day and age you can never be too trusting of someone calling. You may just be giving permission to change your service, accept fees, etc. I told her I would call the phone company myself.
