The man I believe he said his name was Ron, told me he was calling on behalf of my local VFW.  When I asked him why it wasn't a local area code, he asked me what the area code was, when I told him he said thats amazing and said thank you for your time and hung up.

Caller claimed to be raising money for the VFW.

I only picked it up because it had a 212 area code. It's going in my phone book with the ring I select for junk calls.

I think this is a SCAM.  DO NOT GIVE A PEENY TO THESE TROLLS!

This is a for profit org, as they get paid very well.  But to be honest, I do not think it is even them.

I would snot give them a dollar to be honest but I am doubting if these people calling are even them.
Often it is a total SCAM where these trolls may give a few dollars to the legit police group, while holding onto 95% or so of the money given to them!
COPS in NY are way overpaid to begin with.  Cops here on long island make more then you can image for doing a job someone would do with 1/3 the pay!

But these are scammers never the less.

So this goes back to 2007 and yet they get away with this for years? I have been getting a barrage of strange calls in the last months. They look at us like stupid cows with milk for their taking.

Actually, only the NFP's themselves are the exempt parties. The people who call on their behalf, are not. Most NFPs use subcontractors to do their calls and they are not exempt from being sued under the "Do Not Call List" guidelines. They are required to check before calling.

Harassing call

I have been getting calls from this number for the past few days. I don't answer.

they call at 10:20 am asking for donation then they gave a lot of information about them self i do not know why than they wish me a good Luke even they do not give me chance to say that i do not speak English very well .

Called and asked for householder not listed in telephone book. So someone is selling names and numbers. Then silence.

After reading the posting from another, I too called this number back using Caller ID. (I did not answer their original call.)  The call did not come from Police Chief's Association but the Veterans of Foreign Wars Dept. of NY.  When I called back, I got a recording:   "We called trying to reach you to ask for support for our organization.  We'll try again later."  There was not an option to go on their "Do Not Call" list.

(our name), just kept asking what did he want, he replied "do you mean in this recorded call?", trying to make it sound official. got him to admit he was looking for donations, I said no thanks and hung up

My first hangup from this #. Calling back reveals a recording for the NY State Association of Chiefs of Police automated information system regarding fundraising. The msg goes on to mention a call center, 800 509-7514. This phone menu included an option for the do-not-call list. Using caller ID, my number was read back and supposedly added to their list. guess we'll see.

Call came in, I picked up but there was only silence.  In case they call again, forewarned is forearmed.

This number has been calling my house for months, after we have repeatedly asked them to remove us from the list. They are rude and sarcastic and need to be reported to the Do Not Call list. We reported them on Do Not Call. Others have too. They say they are from the NYC Chief of Police, but it is a hoax to get money. It's not really the Police at all.

im sorry, meant to write declning. why would new york vfw be calling for new jersey vfw...what losers...atleast have a semi intelligent person call with a semi realistic cause.  im so angry because i get these types of calls constantly

this caller has called my house on several occassions.  today february 19 at 4:15pm they called from new york and said they were calling in regards to the new jersey vfw and looking for donations for our soldiers at war and those coming home. i told him to take me off the list and i do many charities so i can sleep at night for decling.  my question is, how do these thieves sleep at night.  i feel terrible for the people with caring hearts that donate to these bums pockets.  please people, do not donate money to organizations that call your home.  there are many legit well known charities you can confidently donate to.

Woman caller stating she was a paid solicitor for Ny State Chief of Police Association asking for donations, very aggressive have had calls in the past from males as well. Woman mentioned something about pedophiles. My disgust cannot be written in words.  Notified their do not call number mine is off limits.

I've gotten so fed up with the calls, I don't even bother to answer anymore to silence or someone hanging up on me. Now, I just pick up
and slam down the receiver. That'll let 'em know how it feels.

Just recieved a call from this number, has anyone been able to track it further, find a source, anything at all? I got nothing... but I'm trying - just called my local precient to report it (they don't really care) now I've got 311 on the line - seems like they do care.

This number, 212-999-4927, has been calling my house for months. It is a man and he is very persistent. He does not take NO for an answer. He called my husband, asked for my first name, then when my husband said I was not available & could he help him, he said to "tell her thank you", and hung up on my husband. Very rude. I also reported them at the Do Not Call link above. Thanks for that.

Same here, asked for me by last name, when I was evasive, started spiel about how they are a police association that helps abused children or some crap and asked if he could count on my support this year. I said "sure, but I'm kind of in a hurry, let me have your number" and I got the "I'm always on the phone" so I told him "I have auto-redial and a lot of patience" *click*  I thought it was kind of odd for a guy with a southern accent to be calling from the 212 area code =/

I'm on the do not call list as well.  I personally don't understand why they call people on the do not call list, if there is a dollar value associated with calling people why would you waste it with the people who have taken the time to get themselves on a list of people who don't want to be called, even if you're legally allowed to.

National Do Not Call List is only for sales calls.  If they claim to be a NFP, they can evade that law.

message said "stand by for an important message from the NY association of Chiefs of Police".  My sister works for the NYSBA, and says there is no such organization.  They called again later, but I didn't answer.
