This number calls me and when I call back, I get a message that 215-922-3253 is out of service. Obviously, that isn't the same number as I dailed.

I had been receiving this call several times per week until I finally answered it.  The "pitch" was for a free subscription to BIOTECHNICS [sp?].  I refused repeatedly, and in the process I surmised that the call was routed from an off-shore (probably India) concern that was working for a trade subscription-type magazine.  This is appears to jibe with John NYC comment of 7 Nov 2007.

I get the same one at least 2-3 times a week at my office. If you subscribed to any of a number of free publications they'll call you continuously with offers. If you unsubscribe to anything they'll keep calling you and persisting. I'm trying to find a number to get my info off of the list, as when they call and I say I'm not interested it turns into an argument.

Ditto Jimmy. The same people have been bugging me and arguing with me for at least 2 years. I politely turn them down. Now I hang up immediately. They actually have very fine specific-industry journals/magazines. I just want to read them, buy stuff from their advertisers and not have them phone me ever again.

They have started calling me at my office number. I usually let unfamiliar long distance numbers go to voice mail to avoid annoying vendor conversations, and sometimes do a quick websearch on the number - that's how I found this. Haven't picked up and won't!

I have just started receiving these calls too, which I let go to voicemail. I finally Googled the phone number and came up with this site, fortunately. I used to have a subscription to the free publication Biotechniques; Steve SLC noted his call was with regard to this magazine. It is very good, if you are in the biotech industry. However, I'm going to let my subscription lapse because I don't appreciate such shady tactics. I may try to see if they have my account info online and, if so, change my phone number to theirs.

I've been getting a couple of calls a day- and they never leave a voicemail.  I recently registered for a free email newsletter from Institutional Investor, so it is probably them.

Same thing here in Denmark. Received call today, no one answers in the other end, then, after a minute or so, hangs up. Waste of time and bandwidth (since we use IP telephones .-)

I am getting the same thing.  A call from 213-232-2307 and it turns out to be no one.  I have missed the call mostly because it is in the afternoon.  When I went to return the call it said a different number 215-922-3253 and that it was disconnected.  I am calling the phone company right now (on hold forever) to see what I can do about it.

Thanks for the info Tom... Just got a call on my cell from this number (same business as what everyone else is reporting: you pick up, they hang up). I'm looking forward to the day when telemarketing dies.

I have received several calls from this number over the past few days. A live person is not hanging up. The call is being made by an auto dialer which keeps track of the days and times at which the phone is answered by a live person (as opposed to voice mail) before automatically hanging up. In this way, they develop a profile of the best times to reach you. Eventually, a live person will call at one of these optimized times (I have not received the live call yet). I have no association with Institutional Investor, so I have no idea why I am being targeted unless they somehow have me as a lead as a potential new subscriber. Also, it is possible that this phone number belongs to an all purpose telemarketer who hawks many different products.

I get the call every single week day. Never at the same time. A voicemail is never left and when i answer they hang up. I tried to have the number blocked but was told that it is not possible to do so. How do i get it to stop?

This call comes to my cell phone almost every day in the afternoon, and  I always miss the call.  Occasionally my voice mail will pick up but there is never a message left.  If I call the number back, a recording tells me that the number is disconnected, but the number listed is different than I one I dialed.

This call always appears as a hangup/missed call.  When I DO happen to catch the call and answer, they always hang up.  Why is the call ID information showing Los Angeles CA and the caller claiming to be in the Carribean?  What is the point of the call if the caller always hangs up?

Call received today from this number.  Person on the phone was looking for someone here (my business) who passed away almost a year earlier.  We advised the caller, and, like other similar calls, the caller promptly hung up.

I actually called institutional investor customer service after I spoke to the lady in the caribbean to alert them to this, and the woman at II did not at all seem concerned and said that it is probably some telemarketing company that they have hired to call about subscriptions.

Just called Institutional Investor and talked to a woman there who said they had just been told about it, and are investigating it.  From what she said, this seems to be a scam and is not related to the company (which I have always had good experience with), but the lady I talked to was apologetic and said they were on it.

After receiving several calls from pushy women, I finally got a reasonable one today.  She said that her company's name is Strobe Communications Center and that they are in Jamaica.  I told her to take our number off their list and she said that they would and apologized for the hassle.  I too have used Institutional Investor (magazine and website) in the past and they are a respected firm.  I may send them a message saying that this Jamaican company is overzealous and not doing Institutional Investor's reputation any favors.

they finally spoke after about 6 or 7 calls where they'd hang up when i answered.  the woman spoke with an accent and said she was Institutional Investor (I think I used to have a subscription at some point) and she was calling to verify info for a free subscription.  she read me my work address and contact info and asked some seemingly harmless questions about the company I work for.  i asked her what number I could call her back at and she gave me 215 772 0414.  knowing that was philly, i asked her what city she was in and she said she was calling from the caribbean.  that seemed fishy.  then she asked for my birthdate. i didn't give it to her, hung up, and called back the 215 number, which only leads to a voicemailbox that is full.

Getting the same thing on my cell. I think the previous owner did something with this organization... an investment newsletter or something of that ilk.
I put my cell on the National Do Not Call list now.
I'll report them every time they call. Maybe they'll get a hefty fine like Craftmatic did.

Caller was from Institutional Investor (I had signed up a year ago while trying to find some information on their website). This is the 3rd or 4th call in the past week, and I have told them that I am not interested in their free subscription each time. They are extremely rude and will not stop talking. I usually wait for telemarketers to finish, but this woman was too much. I hung up on her.

I also keep receiving calls from someone at 2132322307 who says that they are with Institutional Investor magazine. They won't stop calling although I've stated that we're not interested. When I tried to call the number, it sent me to a disconnected message.
