Received 2 call from this number over the past 2 weeks. Said I was in trouble and would be locked up. He asked for $1,000 and told him that I only had $100. He said "don't lie I know you have more in your checking account". Obvious scam. The name he used was David Parker....strong accent could hardly understand him.  DEFINITE SCAM

scam scam Roger Martin US Dept of Treasury calling about legal action being taken against me.
I asked if he thought we are really that stupid to fall for his scam, he just tried to keep reading his script, I hung up.
HE CALLED RIGHT BACK!!!! what a jerk.I let the machine record half of his scripted message then cut him off.
He called again today at 10:58 am & left the same message on machine. I turned my answering machine off again as I have been doing because of creepers just like this guy. Oh and so much for donotcall.gov what are they doing about this type nonsense? I reported this number there also.

Got one of these messages. Even dropping my name in the message did not at all convince me this was at all a real call from the US Treasury. I do wonder though where he/they got my name with my phone number. My name and private phone number are not in too many places out there. One place I thought where it can be found is on is Monster.com. Is there anyone that got called here not have their phone number at anytime on Monster.com?

Hi everyone, I've been calling random numbers out of the phone book because I really work for the US Treasury Department of Illegal Affairs. Everyone I've called is having an illegal affair! I'm just a hardworking criminal trying to learn English and I can't believe how mean everyone is on this forum. The least you could do is give me your social security number and mother's maiden name so I can feed my gambling addiction.

God Bless!

Received same call, had the indian fella, had him repeat the script 4 times and still could not make out what the total message was!
I understand companies outsourcing manufacturing and customer service calls...  but the day our government has to hire people from another country instead of Americans to collect taxes....  that's going to be a day I hope people will protest!

yes me too. I received a call just a half hour ago the first guy who's name is "Roger Martin" states he is calling from the U.S. Treasury and that he is processing charges against me for income tax fraud. I said yea ok and where are you located and he told me in los angeles and I said so you expect me to believe that you are calling from us treasury in L.A? do your research pal and also you expect me to believe your name is Roger Martin??? with an accent like that I dont' think so and give me all of your info then he says maam im a paralegal for us treasury and my job is to inform you that you are being charged with fraud and I will give you a phone number I said no you will give me all of your info what is the name of the company you are with he says again us treasury i said lol yea ok we got that now whats your street address and that's what got him stumped cause he couldn't give me one cause i caught him off guard that obviously I could go online and check the address he gives me and if he gives me a fake one it could be a chinese restaurant for all he knew and if he gave me a real one he could get himself screwed cause then the authorities would know where he was calling from. I then called the # back and got another indian on the phone claiming to be "David Williams" its funny that they all have these names that are first names for both first and last and there is no way in hell anyone with those kind of accents would be named those names, I've telemarketed before and they tell you to change your name to names that are easy to understand mostly first names for both first and last the other funny thing is that he answered the phone saying good evening maam, now how did he know it was a maam calling i was calling the call back # (which btw happened to be the same # the last call came from "Roger") for the first time then as I  started saying how did you know it was a woman calling al of a sudden it turned otu to be a vm that was on the line, so i call back and its a message sayign good evening maam and so i left a very long vm for him saying how its very obvious this is all a scam and I was going to do my homework and after I salw your blog I called back to say you should try googling your phone # and you'd see that there is info online about your fraud so thank you for reporting this online so I could see that I was right about this dumb nonsense and now I will be reporting it in other ways like to the united states department of treasury and the irs cause what there doing is impersonating government officials and thats a federal offense and they are going to be screwed just call them back and tell them that you googled their # and found out they are frauds because they aren't answering my calls anymore lol. Thanks again and you should report your call to officials as well. Lets get these scumbags, its not enough that they flew planes into our buildings robbiing us of our security and freedom now they are trying to rob our pockets as well, yea that's not happening.

Received a call from these crazy people.  U S Treasury - filing law suit against me - could hardly understand the fella - obviously from another country.  I played along with him and asked if he if he wanted a credit card number for me to pay what was 'owed'. (FYI - I have no outstanding taxes - actually just got my refund back from 2013 taxes filed).  He immediately said he had to have cash wired......  I told him to find another occupation - that he was terrible at impersonating U S Department of Treasury from India!!!

I first received a phone call and took it and when he stated that he was from Legal Affairs I told him that he was not and that the phone number was being tapped and that I would be contacting my attorney.  He then left two messages on my voice mail one on April 19, 2014 and another on April 21, 2014, claiming to be ?? couldn't understand him on bit, from Dept of Legal Affairs, US Treasury. Telling me that their had been a legal action started on me. That I should have my retained attorney contact him or I would be in a "legal mess".  That I needed to make this right.  Ending with "have a bless-ed day".  He had a heavy Indian accent.  I was upset at first and after thinking about it, there is no reason for the US Treasury to file a legal action against me and that the US Treasury would contact me by mail if there was a problem, not by phone.  I called the number 213-375-0942 back, they did not answer, but there was a message "This is Steve??, Dept of Legal Affairs, ID 11378, I am busy, leave your name and phone number and I will call you back" .I left a message telling them that I will be contacting an attorney, the FTC and the US Treasury and to look up the phone number on Google and they will see that the number is a scam so please quit harrassing me, contacing me and if it continues I will be seeking legal action against them.

Got a call from a man with a heavy accent. He introduced himself as Andy Gibson from Dept. of Legal  Affairs at US Treasury and left a threatening message about a "law enforcement action on (sic!)" my name. He suggested that my  attorney calls 213-375-0953. I hope nobody gets caught by these lowly scammers.

Now this LA scammer is calling to New Jersey! Derrick Williams told me the Agents and Law Enforcement were on their way to arrest me and confiscate my home. Knowing this was a scam, I played along and asked if there was some way to settle the matter in some other way, but no, an "Officer" will be calling me in 40 minutes.
I can't wait to string this guy along!

Heavy Indian accent, claimed that this was an emergency call from the Emergency Dept of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury.  The only other intelligible word was "lawyer."  Many other people on other sites report that this is a scammer, and I agree.

Got the same aforementioned call. I asked for something in writing.  Caller said I had to call back to get the details.  I said I wouldn't place a long distance call. He said it wasn't long distance, they were calling from California, Los Angeles.  Who puts a location in that order?  I said to give me the address and caller said he was not authorized to give that info but if I called back the supervisor would give it to me.   He was calling for the name of my mother- in-law.  I said she couldn't call,  she has Altzheimer's.  He said what is that?  Then he said he couldn't understand, I was cutting out.  Who in this country doesn't know what Altzheimer's is?  This is totally a scam!

Had a message from a John White on 4/15/14 stating that I was in trouble with the IRS and needed to call. Called on 4/16 and spoke to David Williams and he gave me the whole speech that in one hour officers would be showing up at my job and house to arrest me a warrant and during the call I googled the number and found out it was a scam, called him out on it and he continued to go on with his speech unitl I hung up on him.

Received request on 10 April 2014 that I call this number (213-375-0942) to resolve "an important legal matter".  Caller said their name was John Wright ?  From the Department of Legal Services at the US Treasury.   Hard to understand due to heavy accent (Indian or African ?)  but the person said I was being "formally notified of legal actions that have been started" on my name and recommended that I should "have my retained attorney call to deal with the action being taken" against me.  At the end of the call they said "I look forward to speaking with you, and to that, good-bye and have a great day !"  And the strangest thing is that this call was made to a family member's phone, listed under their name, and not to any of the numbers connected to my name.

This number called us at just before 7:00 a.m. Pacific time.  Same general theme as the other calls in this string.  I hung up on him no less than 4 times - he kept calling back and then finally left a message much the same.  I am blocking this number from our home phone.

This guy just called my mom threatening to have her arrested if she doesn't pay back taxes from 2008 in the amount of $1400. He said she could use the prepaid debit card she just purchased last week.......... RED FLAG!!! She didn't give him a dime, but the idea of getting arrested for the first time had her hysterical!!!

We got a call from us treasury dept of legal affairs at 6:30 pm from a women with a heavy Indian accent. Sh e told me to call her supervisor at 213-375-0942 David Williams. What govt agency works past 4 pm? What supervisor would want his clerk to tell people to call them. If legal department wanted to reach us they would send a registered letter to document correspondence or sent the sheriff with a warrant. Don't fall for this scam.

My story is the same as all above.  I asked for a file reference number and the distant Indian accented voice said that she did not have such a number.  I suspected scam and called the number 213-375-0942 and got the same voice mail for David Williams as noted above.  I'm not bothering to call again, but will be telling my family to watch for this.

Just got a call from the same bogus Department of Treasury as the other posters.  The message I got screams scam.  First of all I could barely understand the message as the caller barely spoke English and mumbled everything.  Sounded like the caller was reading directly from a script, which they probably were.  I actually laughed out loud as I listened to this message on my answering machine.

Received two messages left on my answering machine on April 2, 2014, claiming to be Andy Gibson, Dept of Legal Affairs, US Treasury. Telling me that their had been a legal action started on me. Got a call from a guy with a Pakistani accent and an echo indicating an out-of-country call claiming to be with U.S. Department of Treasury saying I was in "big trouble with the IRS" and needed to call.  Right.  The IRS starts with a snail-mail letter of deficiency and I am all paid up.  Being a former tax lawyer I said thank-you very much send it in writing and hung up.  Got I call back from a now more irate foreigner who said "how dare you hang up on me."  I said, "you do realize you are committing fraud" then hung up again.  He called back but I did not bother to answer.

Just received a call from somebody stating they are from the department of legal affairs in Washington, DC and that I was being sued and I needed to call Derick Williams at 213-375-0942 within one hour or they would re-file the lawsuit.  Asked if they could send me something in writing, said I had to call.  Asked why Derick Williams could not contact me himself, was told he is a very busy man.  When I googled the number found several other comments indicating a scam.
