These people call me at least once a week, and it's really annoying...they won't say who they are, and are hard to understand...I wonder if the National Do Not Call list means anything to them? I think a big, fat federal fine levied against them would solve the problem...

I get at least 2-5 calls on my cell phone from this number every day Monday through Friday. I have no idea who these people are, as they never leave a message, and I do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.
I wish they'd either stop calling me or at the very least leave a message so I know what these people want.

I got 11 missed calls today from these freaks, when i call back i get "extension 6005 is not available, please leave a message, then hang up or press pound." so i called them back 11 times, each time giving them instructions on how to leave a message, I plan on calling several more times until i get a human. if they want to harass me, i'll do it right back, if anybody can get me an email address for the company let me know i'll get a buddy to email bomb them, fill their box with thousands of junk messages.

Have received a call a day for the past two days from this number. They leave no message. How do I get off their list?
| Maria in IL 2011-06-06 20:43:07 Unknown |
These people claim to be from VAR magazine, however they will not provide me with any information to back that up. The callers are so hard to understand, I think they're calling from some call center in India. They call 3 times a day all week long. Annoying.

I have been getting these calls (I.D. # 213-537-1439) everyday for over a month. They are calling on behalf of a magazine - Plastics something... - I have been through it - endless survey for a rag I don't want.
So I take the call and tell the guy (sounded like U.S. accent) that I'm not interested and stop calling. 2 minutes later (at 10:30 AM EST), I receive a call from a heavy breather ... whatever.
| Lee 2011-06-06 20:43:07 Unknown |
Regardless of whether or not the magazine company is legit, the survey company is still violating the National Do Not Call Registry. They probably don't care because they are in the Philipines, but the magazine company is still in the United States and must live under its laws. I'm turning em in.

I need to clarify a few things because I'm afraid that a lot of people are getting the wrong impression. Just like another person who posted a comment, I, too work in publishing and the calls that all of you have been receiving is a very common way to either offer you a free trade magazine subscription or to renew your existing subscriptions. I was a recepient of a call from this number and I answered the survey and agreed to renew my subscription as it is a magazine that I'd been reading for a couple years now. As mentioned in an earlier post, "legitimate trade magazines are all audited twice a year so that we can verify to advertisers that we are reaching the number of people we claim and that we are reaching the audience we claim." Personal Identifier questions like the color of your eyes, date of birth, or mother's aiden name are samples of unique verification question that the auditers use when they check on whether the call was actually made (as claimed) and if the subscription was, indeed, valid. Thus, this is actually part of the process as is not done to scam anyone or to extract personal information that will be used for identity theft or fraud. In fact, Personal Identifiers are asked to ensure that people don't receive unsolicited subscriptions. (It is unfortunate that identity theft does happen enough that even legitimate telephone surveys are now considered suspicious... and this is completely understandable, as I, too, am wary when I receive calls from unknown numbers.)
If you ever pick-up such calls (and many of you did), ask the person to explain the magazine to you, or ask for a website, so you can check if the magazine is legit. You'll notice that 99% of these magazines are legit, have been around for many years, subscriptions are being offered for free to people in your respective industry, and actually have circulation bases in the tens of thousands, in most cases.
Contacts on a call list are usually attempted 6-7 times to try and reach the listed person. After that, a record is usually considered "dead" and removed from the call list. The survey-takers never leave messages because that is usually not part of the process. They're instructed to try and speak to people and not to leave messages precisely because a message can often give the wrong impression (e.g. that a call is for a paid subscription, that a call is for solicitation purposes, etc.), when, in fact, it is for none of those purposes. Numbers such as <213-537-1383> are usually trunk lines that you may call back and leave a message on. If it just continues to ring, or never picks up, or is always busy, then there could be a technical problem with the number. But I suppose I was lucky because I've tried calling this number and I was able to leave a message after the voice prompt.
No doubt, it's frustrating to receive call after call from a number that we don't recognize. There is no excuse for receiving multiple calls on the same day (which I must say is rare, given that there are tens of thousands of names on call lists and once a number is statused as busy/no pick-up, it usually goes back to the end of the list where it will be attempted again only after several days, up to 6 or 7 attempts). And I can't speak for all numbers, but at least as far as <213-537-1383> is concerned, the purpose of calls from this number are legit. Like some of you, I had been contacted (twice -- the first time, I was not available), I answered the survey, and agreed to receive the free subscription.
Just thought I'd pass on this info to ease the fears that some of you may have had.

Guys, relax. I got a few phonecalls from this number while on vacation, so I decided to see who it was.
It was Network World calling to renew a subscription. I'm an Engineer for Cisco and my subscription recently expired, so I believe this call was legit. I replied "no thanks" and asked them not to call again. They haven't...
From what I can tell, this is an outsourced calling company hired by most likely a bunch of different companies (magazine, collections, telemarketing, etc...). No need to be alarmed...

This number is a scam 213-537-1383. They get info from tradeshow registrations and try to "phish" you into giving private info. The person I talked to took me through a verification process and at the end the asked me to provide them with some new info like the color of my eyes. I said what? I told them they were a scam and was contacting the authorities. The number if you call it gives a very unprofessional message, making a sound like the peanut's teacher voice. I guess this is to say "we got you sucker and your call is futile". I bet it's VIOP message center where they can record your voice and match it to a phone number, probably to sell. Do these pigs even make money doing this? Who's paying them?

I have had the same issue. They were calling in 'behalf' of a magazine. I got their info if anyone needs to call them off. (213) 943-5214 Spark Marketing Research located in the Philippines

My comment is basically the same as Leslie's above. They claimed to be calling for a subscription to Network World. The interrogation went on for about 15 minutes before I realized this would never end and I hung up. Then they called me back two more times. I asked to speak to the supervisor and they gave me this number (213-537-1383). I called and got a voice mail system that would not allow me to leave a message. I'm sending an email now to Donna Pomponi ( dpomponi@nww.com ) at Network World to complain. She is the Director of Marketing.

Called and left no message. When I called back I got a weird noise which sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher speaking :) - waste of time!

Received a call at my work from this number. THey knew my name and wanted to ask me 3 questions in regards to further requirements for a website called search.telecom.com. Very suspicious. So I said wait a second while I pull that website up and it didn't bring up anything. I told them there was no website that he just described and he said, "OH, well thank you very much Cxxxx!" and then hung up.
