?Free Government Grants?: Don?t Take Them For Grant-ed
?Because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $12,500 government grant! To get your grant, simply give us your checking account information, and we will direct-deposit the grant into your bank account!?
Sometimes, it?s an ad that claims you will qualify to receive a ?free grant? to pay for education costs, home repairs, home business expenses, or unpaid bills. Other times, it?s a phone call supposedly from a ?government? agency or some other organization with an official sounding name. In either case, the claim is the same: your application for a grant is guaranteed to be accepted, and you?ll never have to pay the money back.

Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know.

Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.

Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant.

If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.

Look-alikes aren?t the real thing.

Just because the caller says he?s from the ?Federal Grants Administration? doesn?t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch ? or not.

Phone numbers can deceive.

Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in caller ID systems. Although it may look like they?re calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

These people called me all morning telling me that my mother (who no longer works where I was being called) had applied for and been approved for a $500-$1500 loan and that once I told them how much I wanted they would connect me to my loan officer.  The first 3 times they asked for my mom and I told them that she wasn't there so they hung up immediately, the 4th time I actually initiated a conversation by saying yes.  I asked him if this was a scam call and he replied that because they had all of our information that obviously it wasn't a scam (except for the fact that their "facts" were mostly wrong).  I was called four times throughout the morning at the office (which really got on my nerves because I was trying to do legitimate work for our company) by different people who all had different and extremely heavy accents.  I actually think it's ridiculous that people fall for these things when it is an obvious scam.  Are these people not located at the physical address associated with this phone number? How is it that they've gone on since at least April 5th as first poster remarked.  Either way, I hope they get what's coming to them because I've filed a report with the local police (to avoid identity theft) and an official complaint to the Federal Trade Commission who I've learned are supposedly in charge of these things.  Good Luck A***oles.

Please do not be taken under by this weak scam!  First of all, it should be obvious that when you can talk to so many different people where none has the slightest command of the English language, that is top clue.  Secondly, if one needs to pay out money to acquire money, why would you have to seek financial help to begin with?  These are crooks who have learned to "work" Americans!

She said the government chose me for a $7,000 grant, n since i've entered a drawing for scholarships and stuff...i thought that was her calling about it. She had me give her the last four digits of my ssn then she tried to have me go to Walgreens send $150 dollars through green dot and tell her the voucher number then when i asked her to tell me my address she kept saying she has all my information already and she was going to send the money to my bank account right now. Funny thing was...i didnt have a bank account so i thought that was kind of odd and when i told her she was like oh yeah i forgot! then when i called her back like today 5 minutes ago lol and asked her what are their credentials she kept sayin huh? huh? huh? so i said whats the website again, and she said us grants. n i was like yeeeeeaaaaah i looked on google and this turned out to be a scam then she got mad was like if u want the $7,000 u know how to reach me and then she hung up on me.

What can she do if i gave her the last four digits of my ssn?

Yes, I got a call at first from an Indian accented man on Wednesday named "facamley" at least that 's how he spelled it to me, anyway, after "confirming" that I was approved for a $1500.00 loan he then gave me a "f143*" confirmation number, gave me the 213-785-8173 number to call a "Angel Jones" to finish the process. I called Ms. Jones and she told me that if I send $105.00 to wherever, I never got to find out, through Western Union, I would get my $1500.00 back PLUS the original $105.00 that I had "deposited" within 20 minutes. Then I would have to pay them back $105.00 a month for fifteen months. Totaling $225.00 in ?fees??"Cool", I thought! I told her that I would not have any money until Friday which is when called she called back. Needless to say, I was excited about the loan but decided to research the number that she has call from when I stumbled onto this site. After reading the posts, I was then armed with this sites knowledge when she called back today. I then shot her several questions like: "What company do you represent?" she answered "Cash payday loan". I then asked her: "What website represents you organization"? She replied "www.cashpaydayloan.com". While on the phone with her, I looked up the site then I told her that it was a dead site. She then told me to try again. Over the phone, I could hear a baby crying which I thought was odd. She was also talking to another child as well. Anyway after trying to access their dead site several times while I was on the phone with her, I asked: "What guarantee do I have that after giving you $105.00 through Western Union, that I would receive my monies"? She responded that "she would stay on the phone with me until the all transfers were complete". Odd again, I thought, as I am on a land line. I then asked her: "Why not use my checking account"? She responded that ?I HAD to do it through Western Union". I then asked: "Why not just give me the $1500.00 the take the $105.00 deposit from that"? Then I told her that all this did not make any sense. Anyway, while I was doing more research on them with the computer, with sounds of children in the background over the phone, she hastily announced that: "After you find the site, call me back", then abruptly hung up. The number is an actual working number and she will answer with a simple "yes" with no company representation. This is where I stand with them so far. I am not going through with it, I truly believe that this is definitely a scam AND I don't have that kind of money to gamble away with the possibility of getting ripped off. Thank You for this site! Beware America, BEWARE!!

These people will call you and say you won grant money. BUT, here is the kicker- they want you to put down $149 dollar "security deposit". When I confronted the woman about a grant not having a security deposit and that they are trying to scam and i find it disgusting, she preceeded to call me a super bi*** and hung up.

YES IT IS A SCAM!!!!! I JUST GOT SCAMMED OUT OF $544 TONIGHT. !ST THEY HAD ME SEND $149 TO A NAME IN NEPAL, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TO COVER THE TAXES ON A $7000 GOVERNMENT GRANT. THEN 15 MINUTES LATER I SENT $385 WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TO ACTIVATE THE CODE NUMBER FOR THE WESTERN UNION TO BE SENT ME. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL I SENT WOULD BE RETURNED TO ME ALONG WITH THE $7000. THEN, AFTER ALL THAT I WAS ASKED TO SEND $700 SOMETHING BUT I DIDN'T DO THAT. I WISH I NEVER WOULD SENT THE 1ST AMOUNT. WHEN I TOLD THE LADY THAT I WASN'T SENDING ANYMORE AND WANTED WHAT I SENT ALL BACK THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A WIRE TRANSFER OR SOME BS LIKE THAT. I AM NOT GOING TO LET THIS GO. I WILL DO WHATEVER I HAVE TO DO TO GET MY MONEY BACK. PLEASE HEED MY WARNING AND DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY AT ALL!!!!!!
