4.5 months ago I received a call from Quality Control Yellow Pages asking if I wanted to "renew" our subsciption. Not knowing that we have never, and do not subscribe I went ahead and okayed it. After I spoke with my mother about it (we run the business together, but she normally handles the ads) she asked that I call back and cancel. I did. I called back 5 minutes later and went through about 4 ppl, (with Indian accents) to cancel. A guy named "Jerome" even gave me a "cancellation #".  So 2 weeks ago when we got a call saying that we owed $599.99 I was upset. I called back only to find out that my "cancellation #" was an invoice #!!!!! They claimed that the subscription was never cancelled, and refused to let me speak to a manager. Nathan Frost is the guy I've been dealing with. They even have me on recording confirming the sub. I asked the guy why it is that they don't record the cancellations and he asks me, "Why would we need to do that?" I had it out with him...Then I looked up this company and see that it's supposedly a scam so I decided not to worry about it. But here's the kicker, today we actually recieved an invoice! It looks completely legit. Only the invoice says Public Yellow Pages, NOT Quality Control Yellow Pages. I'm very confused.

The business I work for has received multiple calls from this number claiming to be "online yellow pages." Yesterday (3/4/10) they called from: 191214285465. I believe 91 is an Indian country code? Google said India ISP.

These calls seem to be fraudulent. Then asked me to confirm that all of my company's contact info was correct (stuff that can be found by a simple google search). They then asked me for my position, I told them I am a secretary, they said they didn't have them on the list, so I said an administrative assistant. That too, was not on the list. So they asked if they could list me as an administrator. I told them I was not that. They then asked me for my birthday, that is when I really knew there was something phishy.

They spoke VERY fast and had very strong accents. I could not understand them. They would rattle something off and then ask you to confirm it. DO NOT CONFIRM ANYTHING. Hang up.

I hung up on them today (3/5/10) and they called me back two times in a row.

LIARS CHEATS CORRUPTION AT WORK
CONSTANT calling, all day. If you pick up, many times they hang up. They're gathering lists of working numbers for an entirely different operation.
You guys should of all not answer it. But if you do, why do you respond to any of their questions. Remember, THEY are lying to you from the start. They deserve ZERO cooperation. If anything at all, you should tell them it's a private line and you'll be contacting your state attorney General ASAP and or figuring out how to sue them. SCAM SCAM SCAM

This company does not stop -- for the last month or so, they call at least daily, and sometimes multiple times daily.  Always wanting to verify information for your approved FREE listing with them.
HANG UP  - dont' waste your time speaking with them.  They will get the hint, I hope, eventually.
If it sounds fishy - it is!

Received a call from them. The first was a female who said they were calling for an update of listing for Online Yellow Pages. They have an Indian/British accent - strong accent and they speak very fast. The female wanted me to verify the address and then sent me to "Quality Control". The rep at QC was male with the same accent and stated that he will go through the same process and to confirm address and contact information by reading a script. Then at the end he started talking quickly about a service that would allow them to send us something by mail and that we would need to write to them if we are interested. Before I accepted the service, I wanted the website address. The rep transferred me to another person who said "www.usbusinessorganization.com". I looked this up while I was on the phone and there was no such Website address. At that point, I was returned back to the previous rep and I did not accept the service which triggered him to think I was "worried". I said I wasn't worried and that I do not want the service. As soon as he asked "do you want to proceed?" I said "no" because I don't have time. Then he hung up. What a waste of 15 minutes!

I will not accept any 214 calls that are not legitimate.

When you file complaints with the FTC - this is what happens

HERE ARE ARTICLES ON THE SCAM
Toronto Telemarketing Firm Fined $15M For Business Directory Scam

20 Dec 2009
A Toronto firm has been fined a record $15 million in Ontario Superior Court for operating a business directory scam that targeted U.S. and Canadian businesses.

DataCom Marketing Inc. scammed more than 50,000 small- and medium-sized businesses in a telemarketing scheme that generated an estimated $158 million between 1994 and 2005.

DataCom telemarketers succeeded in the scam by using an "assumed sale" technique. They implied that the business had ordered a directory listing in the past and it had been authorized by someone in the company. Telemarketers would then use aggressive collection tactics to ensure payment. The targeted firms were usually duped out of $200 to $500.

FTC Sues to Halt "Yellow Pages" Business Directory Scams

4 Jun 2009
The Federal Trade Commission has filed suit to halt the illegal operations of several telemarketing boiler rooms in Montreal, Canada. The agency alleged that the telemarketers bilked thousands of small- and medium-sized U.S. businesses and non-profits, including churches, schools, and charities, out of millions of dollars by deceiving them into paying for listings they never ordered in worthless business directories.

The FTC lawsuits, filed in federal court in Illinois, are part of a joint initiative with Canadian law enforcement authorities called 'Operation Mirage' that is aimed at cracking down on business directory scams. The FTC charged that the three telemarketing operations targeted businesses and other organizations with schemes to mislead them into paying hundreds of dollars each for unwanted business directory listings. The court has issued temporary restraining orders in the three cases.

In their phone calls to businesses and non-profits, the telemarketers often have posed as well-known local 'yellow pages' directories, and have told employees who answer the phone that they are calling to verify addresses and telephone numbers, the FTC's complaints stated. The telemarketers then used the 'verifications' as the basis to claim that these organizations agreed to listings that often cost $400 or more.

The FTC alleged that the companies then sent their victims invoices that again often imply that they are well-known yellow-pages companies. Many businesses and organizations simply paid these invoices. Those that did not were harassed with threatening phone calls and letters. To hide their location, the companies have used mailing addresses around the United States, in Miami; Phoenix; Plattsburgh, New York; Port Barre, Louisiana; Russell, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Jersey City, New Jersey, the FTC alleged.

The complaints were filed against Reed Publishing, National Yellow Pages Online LLC, Integration Media Inc., doing business as GoAm Media, and others as well as their operators.

The Commission is seeking permanent injunctions that would force the defendants to give up their ill-gotten gains so that those funds can be used for consumer redress.

On a side note, last year GoAm Media wrote to us and threatened to sue 800Notes.com for the posts published at 866-697-0539 & 888-401-3843 stating that "...the statements made in the Blog asserting that the GOAM MEDIA is a 'scam' constitute defamation against the Company.GOAM MEDIA is legitimately formed and engaged in the lawful business of selling advertisements in business directories and is in good standing with all authorities."

Yep, I have been getting calls from these people for years, actually. Now I just tell them I'm not interested and hang up on them. They do as described, a whole interview which they want you to answer with "yes" or "no."

If you listen, towards the end, they tell you that you are signed up for the free service and they will send you something in the mail so you can subscribe to the service. It's shady as hell, and I think they are trying to get you turned around with the yes or no questions to get you to subscribe without realizing what you have done.

I also would not answer with a simple yes or no and they did get pretty testy about it, but what are they gonna do? Come over from India and key my car?

Received same calls as Kristi and Christina. The person queried my on "my company".  I told him years ago I had a company, but no longer had one.  He said he was calling me to renew the on-line yellow pages ad. I, again, told him I was no longer in business and hadn't been in business for a few years. He said he was calling on my phone number and said what it was, and he wanted to know if that was the #.  I said yes, but it is my personal telephone number and not a business.  He kept asking questions of me which I had to answer yes or no.  AFter the call, I contacted my telephone service company explaining what had just happened.  The checked the records and said so far there are no charges from a company known as USB Organization, but to check my next billing. The # the call came from was 1-214-428-5464.  When I attempted to call that # back, a recording said "the number was disconnected". My wife accessed "Online Yellow Pages" and my old company name, etc. appeared.

I have received phone calls from this number, and the situation is EXACTLY as Christina described.  Exactly.  I get 3-4 phone calls a day from them, and if I hang up they call back and ask why I hung up.  I am also told that if I just verify the information that the phone calls will stop.  This is obviously some sort of scam.  This morning I was told they were calling from CenturyLink (my phone company). This was a red flag because, of course, the person calling is from India, or some Middle Eastern country.  I called the customer service phone number on my CenturyLink bill, and after some research, found that these people ARE NOT affiliated with any phone company.  This is a scam, DO NOT verify information with them.  Report these numbers to the do not call registry and file a complaint.  Also, check to see if your phone company has a blocking/selective call rejection feature.  It's an additional fee, but that is what I am doing to try to stop these harrassing calls.

Supposedly the purpose of call is update the free listing of our business. Listing to what I still do not know even after asking the question. Goes like this. Received call from which I presume is a call center in India. Person #1, a man, wanted to confirm information they already had. He then transferred me to the quality control department and told me to hold the line. Person #2 answers, a woman, and asked the same questions. However it was obvious that she was trying to get me to say "YES". I always refuse to say yes and I only ever reply "that is correct". However she would persistently attempt to get me to say yes.  Ma'am I need you to answer yes or no. At the end of our call she informed me that I would not receive any more update calls I would only receive a call 1 year from now to confirm the information. 10 minutes later I received a call from them again and the guy wanted to know why I hung up during his transfer of me to the quality control dept. I told him I did not hang up and that I completed my call with the lady. He wanted to reverify the information. I repeatedly told him I would not reverify information they already have, AGAIN.  It's like they want you to say Yes to something and if you don't your call doesn't count and they try it all over again.  Somethings not right.
