This message pertains to the number mentioned in this thread but also, to all nuisance calls, in general.  Please read!

I was recently unemployed for an extended period of time but started a new job about 2 months ago.  During my period of unemployment I was receiving frequent nuisance calls of all kinds; credit scams, junk debt collectors, charities, fake political polls, auto repair warranty scams and just general telemarketing scam calls.  I also received lots of phishing and other scam e-mails.

After awhile, I begun to notice that there seemed to be a connection between the occurrence of nuisance calls and scam e-mails I received and my job seeking activities.  I know it may sound strange but when I would send a flurry of job applications via job websites like Snag-a-Job, Monster, Career Builder, Find the Right Job, FreeJobInfo.com, Simply Hired, and etc., I would receive a flurry of these calls and e-mails.  When my applications went out in a steady stream, the calls and e-mail seemed to adjust accordingly and when there was a lull in my job applications, the calls and e-mails would slow dramatically, as well.  In all fairness, I should mention that I've occasionally had this type of thing happen when applying through newspaper ads too.

For the last two months, I've been employed and while I still apply for a better job occasionally, those applications have been with reputable, local companies I'm familiar with and I submitted my applications directly to the companies offering the jobs.  During this 2-month period, the nuisance calls have ceased entirely and the scam e-mails have decreased to the odd straggler every now and then.  The change is too dramatic to be a coincidence and there are no other factors, I'm aware of, to which this change might be attributed.

My purpose in posting this message is to seek the input of others who've been experiencing a high volume of nuisance calls and or e-mails.  Have you noticed a pattern similar to the one I've outlined above?  If so, please share your experience.

Thank you,

Bob
