Called repeatedly, often would not respond when answered and then exceptionally rude when denied a contribution.
LLou 2014-04-24 02:59:22 Telemarketer
Hey Keith,
Here's a thought. Tell your telemarketers to have a little respect, to stop calling people when they ask to stop being harassed multiple times a day. Myself, for YEARS now. The last time I actually spoke to one of your scumbag telemarketers he actually said I "owed" him a few years worth of donations and then he got downright rude when I said I would never contribute to his organization because of the harassment. And yet they continue to call, for days on end, all day long, every year. I've gotten three calls from them today. The absolute loathing I have for your organization has soured me on contributing to any police organization, anywhere, ever.
annoyed 2014-04-03 02:18:32 Unknown
extremely rude prolific caller. when you don't make a donation they hang up on you. they will also call you non stop.
Slim 2014-03-07 02:53:58 Unknown
The calls are merely invitations to buy tickets to the event.
Since you are NOT a charity, you are not exempt from the National Do Not Call policies.
Your telemarketing calls are then illegal, if made to people on the DNC list.
There, my explanation was a lot shorter, and a lot easier to understand than was yours.

Folks - I am the business relations assistant for the Police Expo. Evidence on our website and Facebook page - with hundreds of Police Officers - proves we are in line with business activity pursuant to L.A. Municipal Code 103.212.
We have improved the matter of too-frequent dialing to citizens to diminish this frequency. The reality is, 48% of L.A. County's municipalities participate in the events - essentially - a family oriented job fair to help all municipalities hire more police officers.
This enables employment opportunities to men and women who seek work and who have a particular passion for civic duty.
And this also enables work to support infrastructure for family support and child safety initiatives.
No - not every Police Officer's Association is aware of this work because only the municipalities that participate are aware of this civic work. So although some inquiries to some Police Associations are outputting a "no" response - it does not mean at all that this work does not exist because it does.
The reality is, this is much like collegiate sports, meaning, alumni support collegiate sports programs in the form of fund raising. Police Officers are like the athletes (or soldiers) of our communities and we, as tax paying citizens, are the alumni.
Without the support of citizens in this regard, it makes the lives and infrastructure support of our community police officers - who do risk their lives for us and have sworn themselves to protect us - more difficult without community support.
And again - the events produced drive employment and drive qualified applicants into a sound career in law enforcement.
And many citizens are unaware of the employment opportunities in law enforcement for civilians - those employed but are not serving in the capacity as a sworn-in officer. Citizens, particularly those unemployed (which is hard for all of us who have been unemployed (I too know what that's like and the pressure that can bring to anyone)) have an opportunity to pursue a career in this realm.
As it is now 2014, these matters of concern, that all of you have rightfully shared in this forum, is appreciated and understood - and it is a matter that has brought natural concern and natural correction in fund raising behavior.
Perhaps many of you will join us to see the work output for yourselves on Saturday, March 29th, 2014, 10:00am from 2:00pm at the Rose Bowl.
But lastly please know, your concerns expressed here are relevant - but the evidence shows there is no impropriety pursuant to the aforementioned municipal code enabling this hard work and effort to support what is good and proper with respect to our men and women who have dedicated their lives and have sacrificed themselves to benefit us as civilians.
Thank you for openly expressing your concerns here.

I just had a call from the private number. His name is Joe Davis calling for the donation. I called my LBPD officer friend, and it's a total scam. Please who do I contact to get out of this Boo Boo
I just received a call from Joe Davis wanting donations for the Police Expo. I called LBPD officer friend of mine, he says it's a scam. I will leave the check with the desired amount, and the big void across it. Police officers do not solicit donations. Be aware!!

You can get call blocking devices.. Amazon has some. Also employing a whistle or a boat horn a few times, then just as soon as you id (if you don't have caller id, get one!) the caller, you can start doing a quick pickup and disconnect on them. Takes a bit, but eventually they stop calling.
Also do file reports with the FCC do not call list, those paper trails are useful to the agency's and help with convictions.

These people have called my elderly parents repeatedly after being told not to call. Their last response after being told in no uncertain terms not to call again: "I'll call you next week." Anyone know how to block these calls? It's upsetting to my parents and as far as I'm concerned, borders on elder abuse and harassment.

Requested to be placed on "do not call list" several years ago, yet the calls keep coming .Telemarketer was arguementative and smug when I told him the person he had requested to speak to was deceased.

A man called my home phone from a blocked number. He stated he was from the Police and Family Security Show and was calling to help collect donations for the police officers and that the community has been very supportive. When I asked the name of their organization, he told the The Police and Family Security Show. He asked if he could count on my support, to help out the 'good guys' and to help fight crime by putting more police officers on the street, 'there's nothing wrong with that, right?'. I told him I would think about it and he said, 'what's the problem, we're here to help out the good guys and put more officers on the street, there's nothing wrong with that, right?' I told him the problem was that I was on a do not call registry and he's cold calling me with a scripted sales pitch. He was silent and said, 'so you wouldn't be willing to help out? what's the problem?' I told him the problem is that I'm on the do not call registry and he's cold-calling me. He then hung up.

Got four calls from Police Expo today. Number is "private", so I don't know the number of origin. I told the first two that my wife was out of town, they kept on calling asking for her. Why is this still going on? They should be in jail.

not Michael 2012-08-18 21:13:44 Unknown
Ignore the pest. Go shopping Saturday. Or stay home and don't answer the door. You do not have to give them any money.
Most charities that call and say the are collecting for the police are scams. 90% or more of every donation goes to pay for fundraising - pays high wages to the pests making the calls and even higher wages to their bosses.
Posting your phone number on a public bulletin board was not wise. Scammers use "bot" programs to harvest phone numbers from places like this. Its a way for them to find more potential victims. I have asked the board administrator to delete your phone number, but it will not happen immediately. You can expect more scam calls. Hang up on them.

I received a call from a nice man from the "Monrovia Police Expo" about their annual charity ball. I was willing to give him $10. It was my stupid mistake to give him the security code off the back of my card. I know that no legit company will ask for that over the phone. So I Googled the number and was directed to this site that confirmed it is a scam. Thanks, everyone.

My tenant received a call from supposedly the police department asking for donation(and yes the number shows up blocked). They agreed to donate but when they where told to leave the money under the door matt they got suspicios and asked me what I thought. It just did not sound right. So they did not leave the money. A man did come to pick up the donation when we where not home and left a note stating that would come again tomorrow. The note read Police EXPO and Family Security Show www.policeexposition.com (213) 632-1850
Its all a scam!!!!!!

They call 3 to 5 times a day and just hang up. Called back and its busy or just rings.
Stacy C 2011-06-06 20:43:09 Unknown
Very irritating. This number calls us everyday at least 3 times a day. No messages are left and when we answer the phone there is nobody there. I tried to call the number back and it rang over 35 times with no answer.
