(215) 240-6942 Live call recorded 13 May 2014 ("Heritage" calling on behalf of Special Olympics...") Live fundraising call
Caller ID: "Philadelphia PA"
These people caught me off guard because they were mispronouncing the fake name I used on a previous call. I'm sure the woman calling was a heavy smoker, I could tell by her deep, raspy voice.
They're "Heritage", a professional fundraiser calling on behalf of "Special Olympics".
I never donate to charities who use professional fundraising telemarketers like Heritage because usually the charity only gets 10% to 15% of the money collected, the telemarketer keeps the 80% to 85% as their "fee". This is insulting to all contributors. I question any charity that would use such an inefficient solicitation method.
Transcript of the call:
[female voice] "Hello, this is Linda Booker, may I speak to John or Tyson?"
[me] "Uh, who are you calling?"
[female voice]"John or Tyson Gibson? Spelled G-I-B-S-O-N"
[me] "This is John."
[female voice] "Well (coughs) I don't know why I have Gibson here too, I don't know...hmm, excuse me, this is Linda Booker giving you a call this year with Heritage on behalf of Special Olympics in Merion, PA. You know you're a wonderful supporter of Special Olympics. Thank you so much. Uh, they are disabled, John, they're not enabled, and your [unintelligible]'s are coming up, that's why I'm calling. They'll get healthy meals and uniforms, you know, whatever they need. The levels are the same, the gold is fity, the silver's for thirtyfive, the bronze is for twenty and the smaller one is for fifteen dollars. Is one of those ok for the children this year..."
[me] "Uh, this is for Special Olympics? Yes, that's worthy, I can contribute to that..."

Caller ID says "Philadelphia PA." I never pick up crap like that but let the answering machine do it. Telemarkers then hang up. Remember- if it's important, they'll leve a message.

This is harassment! I get calls as early as 8:15 in the morning and after 9:00 in the evening. No one is ever on the other line. I called the phone company and was told that they couldn't trace the number without a zip code. I hope whoever is calling that they get caught and are dealt with severely by the authorities!

| eddieclyde 2010-02-23 01:40:04 Unknown |
They call once an hour from 6-9. No message and no one is there when I answer.
Anyone know who it is?
