Get a call that this is a carpet cleaning service and to make an appointment, press 1, but then you get disconnected. I've gotten this call once before months ago. I am also on the do-not-call list.

I agree, but the telemarketers are making LOTS of money and can afford the technology and taxpayers can't afford it. With the number of state employees that already lost their jobs and many others doing the work of 2-3 people, there isn't the money or manpower to keep up with the bad guys. Besides, from what you said, most of the calls come from outside the U.S. and the callers don't care about breaking U.S. laws. If they can't find Osama Bin Laden with all the technology being used, how do you expect them to find someone using a throw away cell phone or calling from India?
U.S. laws are broken and the callers aren't subject to U.S. laws. If they find out that the calls come from Canada/India/where ever, then what?
It sounds like the response is telling the truth and that's unusual for the government lately.

I reported this to Pa's Atty General as being in violation of the DO NOT CALL list. Here's part of the response I received back:
......."we must advise you tht we were unsuccessful in determining who placed the call.
In similar complaints, it appears that the telemarketer or company making the solicitation call uses multiple telephone service providers and sophisticated internet technology to make and relay the calls several times before reaching a consumer. This type of service enables those sending the messageto use hundreds, or even thousands, of numbers to hid the source of the solicitation. It is not uncommon for such telephone solicitations to display inaccurate, "outbound only", or disconnected or een non-existent numbers.
Many of these numbers are provided by telephone service providers located outside the United States. As a result, local carriers generally are not able to track or provide information regarding a specific call or the specific subscriber. Also, foreign telephone carriers generally are not subject to State or Federal jurisdiction."
Seems to me, the technology used by the bad guys is far superior to that used by the good guys. It's time to catch up!

I got a call from this phone yesterday, March 16 after 6 p,m. The person told me that her name is Diana and she offered me a carpet cleaning. I'm on not-to-call list and was disappointed with this call.
