Or the medical facility did not bill insurance properly and want you to pay for their mistake. I pay an absorbent premium for insurance and refuse to pay for their error.

You have no idea what people are going through our why they can't pay their bills. Why are you on this site looking up this number anyway?  Not paying your bills? !

I kept getting calls from Portfolio (debt collector) telling me I owed a certain credit card company $3,000 (which I knew I didn't because I didnt have the credit card they claimed I owed on)  and finally after 2 years and many hours of aggravation, --even after reporting them, they finally "realized" THEY had the wrong person! NEVER pay a bill over the phone to anyone who CALLS YOU --even if they threaten you with court action and especially dont let anyone bully you into paying a debt you know you dont owe!  if you owe any money, the company, including the debt collectors have to send a written copy of the bill in question. Even if you get a statement from a debt collector, you can call the company you have the debt with and pay them directly. You can report these callers to the FTC and if they continue to call after you have told them to stop calling, they are in violation of federal law.

I am not sure but I think it is some sort of rule or law with certain hospitals to Accept any and all patients. However, aside from that I completely agree with everything else you have said. It's nice to know that I am not the only person who has dealt with this. I had made payment arrangements with the original company then since I was still owing they sold it to another company and then tried to sue me. Little did they know I had a family. Member who was willing to spend their savings to get me a great lawyer. I won the case because my lawyer sued their lawyer saying that it was beyond certain limitations and their lawyer knew that they were breaking laws so my lawyer threatened to sue their lawyer directly. So all of a sudden the next day their lawyer dropped the case and. Didn't have to pay another dime. But then one month later I get a call from a company saying I owed money and come to find out the original company had actually sold it to another company who, after the lawsuit, sold it again to another company. My lawyer fixed it fast and got them to realize if any company calls me again that we would sue the three differant companies. It was stressful and a big mess. But boy was I lucky that a family member loved me enough to pay for a lawyer that hated to see a big company try to ruin someone. He even made sure that everything, my credit history, went back to as if I never dealt with the company before.

Nick, why are you even on this site unless you yourself are checking the number. I don't owe these people anything, why don't they send something to verify a debt? Wierd business if you ask me.

I have a lot of contempt for these scavenger debt collectors.  One reason is because they make money on the misery, economic instability and in many cases, the FEAR of many a good person.  You go to the ER because you HAVE to, tell them you have no job and no money and you can't afford to pay them.  Yet, you are ill, hurt and in a lot of pain, and they agree you need to be seen.  The next thing you know, weeks later, you start getting big bills in the mail that an unemployed person cannot pay.  There is no money, but they try to squeeze blood from a rock...a rock, I might add, they knew about well before they picked it up.
It is a very poor business model to provide services for people when you know they cannot pay, then send them to collections when they do not pay which is something you knew beforehand.
If you refuse to see the patient that is one thing, but then seeing the patient knowing they cannot pay, then asking them to pay, is, to me, just stupid.  If I provide you a service knowing you cannot pay, then I either don't provide the service or I don't force you to pay.
Scavenger debt collectors are even worse!  They buy long term charged off debt that has been let in stasis for many years.  They pay pennies on the dollar for the debt and then get you to pay the whole debt via the use of scare tactics and other things that would make a professional stalker green with envy.  They make their profit when they hav made you so miserable you pay them anything (as long as it is more then they paid by 10-15%) just so they go away.  The dirty secret is that they can and probably will, send the unclaimed portion of the debt to another debt collector.  Even so, the debt you may have owed to the priginal creditor is STILL on your credit report!!!  So, the upside for you paying is NOTHING, original creditor NOTHING, but the scavengers investors make out  like bandits. And you don't even have the pride of being able to say you paid the debt.
See what I mean?
Scavengers make money off of the fears of people, their shame at being unable to pay their alleged bills and what is more, they invest in BAD DEBTS with people that MAY already have a track record of being unable to pay their bills...then they humiliate them some more with calls to family, friends and home or they publicly sue them to collect for some service or good they NEVER supplied.
Again, not a good business model if you ask me...I would think you would not to do business with people that way, but, if you do, don't cry in your soup and complain to a judge when you can't squeeze any more blood from the rock you got in your hand.
It is like bounced check fees...the bank charges you more of what they know you don't have any of...

I got a call from this number and called them back. It's a debt collector for medical bills it sounds like. I don't have any debts beside my house and car loans, so they had the wrong number and were looking for a different person in my case. The person I spoke to was very nice and removed my number from their list. I suggest calling them back if you're getting a call from this number and you're not sure why.

I got a call from them and I have NO debts in collection. I am current on my mortgage and car payment.

Exactly! He must be working! I think this number is likely from a medical billing agency! If your insurance doesnt cover the cost of your healthcare! Well you get billed-but not directly, your file is sold to an agency such as this who have no compassion! Its not easy trying to get a job ESPECIALLY IN MICHIGAN! I have a damn Bachelors and still 100+ resumes and only one damn interview that 50 others were competing for! He must not be paying his damn bills either or.... he wouldnt be on here! LOL

These companies will get paid as soon as I can make ends meet better! UGH

Call came in as a Michigan call and a snotty voice says "We need to speak to you now.  Press 9 to talk to a representive.  Checked the number out on here.  Must think people are idiots, expecting you to dial 9 not knowing who is calling.  Also stated at the start that it was not a telemarketer.
