The cops don't call for money. The charities that call claiming to be cops are for-profit call centers. They keep 80-98% of every donation to cover "expenses". Those "expenses" include high salaries for the owneres of the call center.
You were wise to not donate to them.

Called our mid-fl landline at 2.20p on 4/13/14, a Sunday afternoon. They left no msg of course, and caller id is just Cape Coral FL.

Thank you for that information. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. On previous calls soliciting for FL Highway Patrol or police organizations, I've said that I support them by obeying the law. A few times, they've hung up on me, one laughed, some continued to read their script.

Blocked my number and found out the info. I would never contribute to a charity that solicits donations over the telephone and would also never contribute without first checking out their financials. Read more here:
