These people have been calling me for the last 3 days in  a row!
They say they are taking a survey, and I say I'm not interested and they keep calling back-

This is very upsetting!

Oh and what do you do for a living? Oh I know sit on your fat a$$ and watch Jerry Springer all day!
People with sense on this forum have been telling pinheads like you that:

1. Not a Sales call!
2. Telephone SURVEY firms are not under the DNC laws.
3. If you take a SURVEY they will not call you back unless there is another SURVEY (in some cases you may never get called again as the PHONE NUMBERS are not saved). Now if you uptight/upright citizens know anything about the concept of random you do the chances of any SURVEY firm calling you again is nil right?
4. All the others who have worked or are working for S.R.B.I are right when they say; 'Funny how you have time to surf the web to research how to stop calls, trace numbers, call the company to complain, call the BBB to yeah again complain, but do not have time to take a .....SURVEY!' Not to mention write in Forums. ;P

Now those of you that are just tired of Telephone Interviewers calling you when your at dinner, watching a sports game, or something really important like that lady who mentioned that she's taking care of a sick relative, you have either one or two choices, tell the nice, polite, can't find a job in this bad economic climate but this stress filled job, that they should call at a better time, or yes, here it is......

Do not call this number thank you goodnight.

But of course to all you other b****eads out there I might as well be talking to a brick wall because it is so easy to pick on people you can't see over the phone. Having a bad day? Well when a TELEPHONE INTERVIEWER calls just yell, scream, and curse! (Or like the last JackA scheme to blow whistles in their ears. Yeah because when we get those fax # randomly we don't get enough ear damage from that. Good plan, JackA!) Oh and don't forget whenever your unemployed, frustrated, or angry, well you might just get lucky and a hapless young person straight out of High School might call. Gee I guess that's one way to teach them that being polite really pays off! ARRRRRRRR! Just think and stop this little pity party you comfortable suburban yuppies and do something constructive with your lives!!!! Volunteer or something! Geez!

1st of all, the dnc list is for telemarketers, we're research analysts. 2nd, if you want the calls to stop DONT hang up, because you will be coded as a hang up and WILL be called back. either (politely) say you're not interested and stay on the line and hear our 2 second speech trying to get you to participate and then say you're still not interested and we'll code you as a refusal, or depending on the survey you can opt to answer the first few questions and refuse to comply or if the questions do not pertain to you or interest you (again, depending on what the survey is) then you'll screen out and not be called back. WE dont look for your numbers, the people who hire us to call you do. so you may never get a call or if for some reason some other company that hires us gives us your number then you may be called again for a different survey. we dont keep your numbers for different surveys, only the one we were hired to ask you to participate in. if you  dont want to do it just say so, but you're opinion really is valued and if we only offered for people to do surveys online, not only would several people (those without internet access) not be able to give us their input, but thousands of people would be without jobs. wee're only doing what we're hired to do and you'd be surprised how many people appreciate the fact that we give them the chance to give us their opinion. and of course, the BEST way to not get a callback, is to participate =) they usually dont take long and if you ask how long it usually takes, you'll get an honest answer.

If the DNC is not being used as an "excuse", then perhaps everyone here should stop talking about it. After nearly a decade in this industry, I have heard thousands of variations (literally) of this, with what I call a "beaten dead horse" issue. I completely understand that it may seem like an "annoyance", but to remedy this, all one has to do is tell the interviewer, in a POLITE tone, not to call them again. Whenever I get a so-called "Supe call", I ask the interviewer who I am speaking to, and how calm or aggressive the respondent is so I can diffuse the matter in a professional and polite manner. I then tell them that I will place them on their "do no call" disposition. However, nearly all market research conducted on an "automatic dialing" system (meaning, simply, the interviewer does not dial, per se'...instead, the system dials FOR them), there is no guarantee that we would not call that number in the future for another study. I started in this industry as an interviewer, and worked my way up the ladder, so to speak. But my sympathy for those who felt they have been harrassed has never faltered. So please, do not think everyone in this line of work are just out there to be a hindrance or burden to everyone's lives. Clearly, we are not.

What we do IS a real job. I have heard this same thing over and over for years now: "Anyone who does this work is fat/lazy/a loser/blah blah blah". Truth be told, we have those who are seeking extra income, especially in this day and age of a slow and otherwise pitiful economy. There are a lot of folks who are pushing retirement age and are quite simply some of our best employers. They are very professional, and always come to work with a smile on their faces. I for one love to see them come to work. They make my night. And they have ALL of my respect.

I've been in this industry for a very long time, and believe me when I say what we do is far from easy. But market research is what all companies do. If they want to find out what ordinary customers like as far as food/clothing/TV/etc, they call upon folks like us to conduct such surveys. Fortunately, SRBI only does surveys that benefit the greater good of man. For example, we recently did surveys with Vietnam Veterans and their exposure to Agent Orange and ways to assist them. We also did a long-term study on behalf of Medicare. And currently we are conducting research for the Centers for Disease Control. I completely understand that it may seem we are being "bothersome", but certain protocols from clients are what we need to adhere to. Not to mention the fact that certain interviewers take matters into thrie own hands and, if so inclined, will deliberately make a number be a "callback" when the respondnet perhaps..PERHAPS...was rude to them, even though they asked not to be called back. If this happens (and it does) we handle it swiftly, and they are without a job. We have a zero-tolerance with regards to those who fail to follow simple instructions. I truly do sympathize with those who get called after asking not to. So please, do not think we are just sitting idly by and allowing certain individuals to try to give our firm a bad name.

Doing market research is not an easy job, no matter how you slice it. We call a random household to conduct a survey, whether it is on the current Presidential race, or abuse of the elderly. I know that a great deal of folks out there feel they are "being badgered". Truth be told, we do not know their names, where we are calling,or what their names are. There is no such thing as a "personal" survey asking very VERY personal questions, unless we as a company are asked to do a follow-up survey. In THAT case, their names are provided, OR...the respondent agrees to be called back for a follow-up survey. Having said this, it is folks like our company that keep companies and insititutions in business. Think about this: Without market research of ANY kind, NO business would be able to STAY in business. The public decides who is and is not popular, and thanks to their tax dollars, firms such as Abt-SRBI are able to assess and find out how people in this counntry feel about certain issues that may be of pertinent importance. It may seem or appear as a "nuisance", but any input helps. In fact, almost nearly ALL of our currnet surveys are seen in local papers and magazines and TV. Not to mention national work, which can be seen in Public Policy of California (www.ppic.org), or Annenberg (www.naes08.org). We speak to a few THOUSAND people in this country, out the hundreds of MILLIONS. So take that into consideration next time you are called adn asked to pariticpate in a survey.

Perhaps if you would ask at the beginning of the survey if we would mind a few questions, adn briefly indicate the good the info will do you would be treated better.  AND not call at the dinner hour as most of you do.

Listen, sorry4Ucynic: calling people "the epitome of the Ugly American" in this case is reprehensible.  I am a former social worker, and a bleeding-heart liberal.  But give me a GD break.  I work full time, as does my husband.  We have a small child at home. Our time at home is precious.  We have a DNC #.  SRBI is calling us AT LEAST twice a day.  Don't freaking tell me I'm the one with a problem.  Their invasive business is just that, an obnoxious capitalist business that makes money by invading people's private time.  It is not okay to call people repeatedly each day.  SRBI should be held accountable, and should have a system in their computer to enter in #'s that request not to be called.  They have woken up my son several times.  They call during dinner.  It's out of hand.  So shut up and stop ridiculing your peers for wanting their privacy when we are in our own homes on nights and weekends.

You are the epitome of the "Ugly American" (look that one up in your dictionary if you have one) Is this how you spend your free time between phone calls from the President asking for your learned opinion on foreign policy? The good thing is that you get so worked up about a simple phone call that maybe soon you'll have a stroke and you won't be able to use your hands to type such vicious, cruel and ignorant comments. Clearly, you don't have a big social life do you. Demeaning someone's job is petty, obnoxious and unnecessary. If a person is emplyed and making money to pay their bills and feed their children who are you to insult them.
But you wouldn't know anything about that in your million dollar mansion with your seven figure salary as you hunch over your keyboard at sites like this, right big man?

Hmm..let's think about this for just a nanosecond:

Perhaps SOME folks that work there DO have a so-called "REAL" job already, and are working there part-time to help supplement their income, hmm?? Like for instance, the numerous wonderful hard-working individuals who, by the way, have professions in the medical field of some sort or another..and NO, I am not talking about Doctors who drive around in beemers or benzes. I'm talking about those who are nurse aides, caregivers, HR managers (yes, we do have one there in that field). We also have some long-standing interviewers who can't GET a REAL job, for one medical reason or another. And just talking on the phone is what they are capable of. What are their options: Stay at home sitting around and be miserable, or be able to actually make some money while doing something that helps benefit the greater good? Notice how (if you did your homework)SRBI doesn't do surveys like "how was your pizza?" Instead, we have done surveys to help Veterans of Vietnam, Medicare, Children's healthcare, etc.

I completely agree that there are many people who work for us who don't understand the consequences of their insubordinate behavior, and trust me, we do all we can to either warn them or, worst case, terminate them. But for every 5 of them, there's plenty more who Do take their work seriously, and are very competent their job. Believe me, I would love nothing more than to see everyone just "follow the rules". Sadly though, this is not always the case.

But here's some advice for everyone who posts here: If you don't recognize the number that calls you, just say "hello?" and see what the person on the other end wants. Within the first 10 seconds you will know what type of call it is. Then you can either ask them, or their supervisor, to remove your number from the list. If it's a TM, they MUST comply. If it's a market research call, we will remove your number, but please keep in mind that since there are literally hundreds (if not thousands by now) of mkt rsch firms, there is no guarantee your # won't be dialed again in the future, since it is randomly generated by the system.

Also: if you had been called before, and an interviewer was rude, immeidately ask for a supervisor and the situation will be handled quickly.

Here's the deal. If you say the key words "DO NOT CALL ME BACK" then you will be marked as a HARD - Refusal and will not be recontacted for THAT survey. There is no guarantee that you will not be contacted for another in the future, as numbers are randomly generated. This is completely within the law, look it up yourself.

Also, it is perfectly within the law to have contact with a person 3 times per day, and to contact them as many times as you want when it's an answering machine/fax/non-contact. The DNC list does not apply whatsoever to SRBI either. They can also call on an autodialer anytime between 8am and 9:30pm at night, as is also within the law. If we want to turn off the autodialer and call you at 2am by punching numbers by hand, we can.

Learn the law, it helps most people out when whining and complaining. If you don't like it, lobby to get it changed.

Are the employees at SRBI aware that their company can and MUST remove a number from future calls? A nice lady I spoke to in their administrative offices told me this. She also told me to get the name of whoever calls me again, and that "disciplinary action would be taken". Come on people, at least know the rules of the company you work for.

Dude, you're the f****ng idiot.  You're not being called by telemarketers, and if you say you're calling from a secure gov facility, then we will just look at our record of calls and geuss what? If it says that last time we called you and you hung up, we will know it's a household.

p.s. i don't know who this damon rodriguez guy is, and ive been working there for a year.
