Got a call  about 10am this morning from someone claiming to be my "oldest grandson"  I know where he is living, and it's very unlikley he could get to Spain since he left for school this morning at 8am.  Told him to call back later and I would have info on the $1500 he owes for a phone pole in Barcalona, Spain.

I made a quick check and found him sitting in his classroom, safe, sound and sober in Minasota.  Never heard back from him..  He was pretty good, and had me going for awhile

My elderly mother just received a call from a male at this number claiming to be her 18 year old grandson. The caller said he was in Barcelona Spain helping a friend from college and that he had a "broken nose"  which is why his voice sounds funny. The caller went on to say that he needed her financial help but that she should not say anything to anybody. I pray no one falls victim to this scam.

Caller has called 3 times -- always asking "Gramma?" and then when asked who is this the line goes dead. Very worrisome -- the last time he identified himself as "Your oldest grandson" when asked his name. My oldest grandson does not call me "Gramma" so knew it was a fraudulent call. Have contacted the local police regarding this.

We received numerous calls identical those described above referring to an a Grandson who was in an accident on Spain. The caller stated that they needed money for auto repairs and requested money be wired to a mechanic names Juan Cortez in Madrid. The caller who claimed to be our grandson indicated that he was working with the US Embassy in Barcelona. I advised them that I"d have to call them back. At that point they provide me with and 877 number which they claimed to be the US Embassy in Spain. At that point I know it was a scam since the US has no embassy in Barcelona. It's located in Madrid. this resulted in my question the person claiming to be my grandson. He failed at every question I asked him regarding his family and personal life. At that point I told them that hey were just a bunch of scam scum. They then hung up. No more calls since.

Prank Call
Received the same call similiar to most of the posts.  Said Grandma, I've been in an accident, drunk driver hit us and my nose is broken that's why I sound funny.  My grandkids don't call me Grandma so I knew it was a prank.

We got a call also with the same story as John's post, on Nov. 18. The call was reported to the Collier County Sheriff's office via an on-line incident report. They rejected my report; I called and talked with the person who rejected my report. I then got a call from their fraud department this afternoon and was informed that the number that shows on Called ID is actually a disconnected number. Said the caller could be anywhere. Said they could not do anything.  I do not know if the Sheriff's department was being honest with me, if they don't want to bother, or are understaffed.

In our case, when we let the caller know that we knew he was a scam, he treatened to come to our house, he recited our address, and show us his gun.

We received a call this morning from "our grandson" saying he had gone to Spain with a friend and been in an accident and needed money to get back home tomorrow.  He asked us not to tell his parents or his wife about the accident.  He said it didn't sound like him because his nose had been broken and his lip split.  He said the insurance company had assured him they would pay for all the damages ($2200) but needed to borrow the money until he had collected the insurance.  When I said I couldn't send him money without talking with his parents, he hung up.  When we tried to call the number back, there.was a message in Spanish saying that the phone was not amortized to receive calls.

Got the same call this morning, same story almost word for word from the report above.  I told him that his grandfather wasn't here and that he was the only one that could wire money to him. He was to call back in 1 hour; he hasn't called back.  I hope no one falls for this because at first he is really convencing.

He called my grandparents this morning, and they asked him to call back. My grandmother then called me and let me listen to his story on speaker-phone:

Says he is (my name), and got in a car accident while vacationing in Spain. He wanted my grandparents to not inform my parents, as he didn't tell them he was skipping his classes to go on vacation. He explained that he sounded different because his nose was broken in the car accident. He also stated that his friend is in the hospital with a concussion. He wants money wired to his bank account so he can be back to college by Friday. He says he is calling from a payphone because his cellphone was destroyed in the accident.

I then started to talk to him via the speaker-phone, asking him if he is OK. He asks me who this is and I say "your cousin."  I have him repeat the story several times until he runs out of "facts" to give me. I then ask him why he hasn't answered my texts. He explains that his cellphone was broken. I tell him that I don't think it is broken, and he becomes indignant, saying "dude, I'm in the hospital using a payphone. It's broken." I say it isn't broken, as I am (my name) and I am using my cellphone. He responds with "you serious?" "what the f***?" and "seriously?" I then repeatedly ask him who he is without giving him room to talk to anger him and encourage mistakes. He eventually identifies himself as (my first name, my grandparents' land name), then grows silent. He then ends the call with "you're wasting my time; are we going to scam these f****rs or not?"

His first call was at 0713 Pacific Time, with his last call at 1012 on November 1st, 2011.

The number he used every call was 239 384 6078

The call came from a Metro PCS land-line from Naples, Florida

A man's voice said "grandpa"? when I answered.  (I have no grandchildren.)  I asked who was calling and he gave my son's name, and said he was "in a bit of trouble."  It was not my son's voice, so I said he was not my son.  He said, oh, well, and hung up.
