This number called and left me a voice mail spiel about how my spouse and I have won two plane tickets to anywhere in America. They left some 800 number to call back on...of course I won't do that. Just some silly telemarketing scam, no doubt.

Call came from Maryland to Kansas  by land line at 13:29 hours CDT on 8-3-2010. Call not answered and no message left. The KFL PAC on the caller ID is the Kansas For Life political action committee.

This number called this AM caller ID Pat Boone was in fact a Jim Ryan who had been a member of congress before he got voted out

It is that time of the year, and yea, it's Kansans For Life disturbing all of us at home (because none of us obviously reads newspapers, watches the news, or is even educated on the political issues - so we must need a call at our homes.  We must not be as smart as the people in Topeka & Washington.)

And yes, despite that the area code is for Buckeystown, Maryland, phone companies for nearly a century have been selling other companies and organizations phone numbers in any area code of the world they want.  Where the caller ID or the call says it is coming from is meaningless - someone working for a company/organization 2 blocks from your house could be calling you with a number that shows up as India.  It's the same thing as 1-800 numbers (it just happens to be a 1-240 number in this case.)

Telemarketers, politicians, and debt collectors (all three the scum of the Earth) think that you are more likely to answer the phone if you see some "odd" area code and not a 1-800 number, so that's why they're using numbers like these.  More legal gray-area tactics.

I got a call from the 240 699 8950 and it imitates the Kansans for Life, but is definitely not a number from our state--KFL is a 316 number.  We live in SE KS.

I just got a call from 240-699-8950 Harris County.  I live in Harris County and it to puzzled me, so I looked it up and got all this info.  I did not answer and I  do not like getting these calls.

Just called my home number also. 240....Harris County...what dweebs! Really tired of getting spoofed calls!!! Thank God I have number blocking on my phone.

They must be busy in Houston today! I just received a call from this number and I too live in the Houston area. I reiterate that the 240 prefix, is NOT a Harris County, TX number. These people are both sneaky and not too smart!

These people are spoofing their Caller i.d.  I live in Houston and the number 240-699-8950 came through with the Caller i.d. reading "Harris County."  Harris is our County, but anybody who lives here knows full well that the area code 240 is not associated with an area anywhere close to us.  Area code 240 is in Maryland.  What idiots.

Called me on my cell phone to let me know my spouse and I won a free 4 night, 5 day cruise leaving Galveston, TX to the Caribbean. Left a number (800-277-2515) for me to call back and book passage.

They invited to to have beer at the white house!

This number called my cell phone and I do not give that number to anyone but family for emergency use.

Message came from Maryland to Kansas, at 21:49 hours (illegal) CDT on 7-24-10. The caller ID said KFL Pac, which is the Kansas For Live Politcal Action Group. Call not answred  and no message left.

Shows up as "HARRIS COUNTY", but as other posters have mentioned, anyone who lives in the Houston area knows good & well that this isn't a local area code.  They actually left a message, stating that there are still funds available to claim for Hurricane Ike damages...  Whether that is true or not I don't know, and really don't care.  The fact is their caller ID is suspicious, and mass-dialing phones is distasteful.

It is waaayy too easy to spoof CID.

No message left.  Caller ID said "Harris County".  I'm in Texas but area code 240 is not a Texas area code.

Received a call from this number, and called the number back; was told, "there's been a mixup on the numbers" and they lady hung up immediately...very strange.

I got the call from 402-982-0855. Same message that everyone here is getting except the tickets were to wherever we wanted "from the nearest airport" and the number they asked to call back to is 1.877.209.3600. KJA Promotions...blah.

Oh my goodness!! I did google search for KJA Promotions and found all these complaints about phone calls... There may be other businesses operating under the same name i suppose... but in TN I have a small company called KJA Promotions. We do concerts, dances, lessons, flyers, ect. I just wanted to make sure clarify. Good luck to everyone getting these awful calls. It's not from us though!!

Does anyone know if the company tries to charge your phone if you do select 1? I just wanted to see if they would answer and have my name/number removed from their list.
