I have been getting incessant SMS with some variant of SUN TRUST asking to call a number.

T-mobile rep unhelpful.  I just went ahead to my account online and blocked all SMS.

But reading above they come from email (e.g. email to sms?) I tried to set email filter.  Something simple like "s*".  Guess what?!  T-Mobile filter does not accept asterisks -- How DUMB!!!!

What I did was change my t-mobile email address which I never use anyhow.

Have received numerous calls since 12/4 - one after the other - reported to my carrier
but they cannot resolve.  Told me to reply "stop" to the text message; hope that works
but I have my doubts.

Apparently is a phishing scam.  I received several texts within minutes of the other from "suntrust".  Fortunately I have a mobile phone that gives me the option to block anonymous messages and advertisment messages.  Check the settings/options for text messages on your phone.  I have an HTC phone.  Hope this helps.

Text Messaging Scam Re-Surfaces
Banks across the nation, including SunTrust, have experienced an increase in a cell phone text-messaging scam. Clients have reported receiving a text message on their cell phone that their credit card/debit card/cell phone service has or will be deactivated and they need to text back (or call a number and verify) account and PIN information. SunTrust will never ask for personal information in a text message or an email. If you receive a message like this, please report it to us at emailabuse@suntrust.com. If you believe you have provided personal or account information in response to a fraudulent text or email, please contact a SunTrust representative at our Fraud Assistance Center at 800.447-8994.

The person is in Seattle, Washington in King County.

There on a land line, which is most likely a digital phone they use to switch up phone numbers on.

It looks like they don't have just one phone carrier, they have multiple.

The number that is posted on the cell was traced to a place close a location called: Des Moines Marina

The street this phone number comes up on is: 6th Ave S

Here is the link: http://www.lookupphonenumber.com/Washington/253-785-0259

Lets do something about it by reporting them to SunTrust: reportfraud@suntrust.com

Received 11 text messages from these b*****ds so far saying:

" s.u.n@s-un.t-rust.com / S-u-n / Hello . Call us now . +1-253-785-0259 "

You mean to tell me that there are all these hackers in the world, and none of them think of slamming these scammers? This should be like some sort of new fun hobby for them.

Text message sent from multiple numbers like "3683".

Companies meant to defend us actually protect these damn people more than us. They say that they aren't allowed to give us confidential information even if a person stole our freaking information. It wouldn't get to the point of trying to get their information if the people enjoying a stable life on our tax dollars actually did their job to apprehend these idiots.

I am getting a text message that says: [unverified sender] (7861516975) S U N T R U S T notice 833573.Please call 718.8877864

The 718 number belongs to a fax machine, if you google it, the f****ad that owns it is named Jesus H. Burgos: http://burgosprivateinterest.com/Contact_Info.html

I believe the s****ead bought a list of Suntrust customers and is spamming them in hopes that they have a mortgage and want to get out of it.

I am cursing because it pisses me off. These people who do mass mailings are the cancer of the internet and waste resources. All I can hope is that he paid a bunch of money for the list and gets close to no results.

If you have t-mobile, just call their customer service and they will block that sender. That's what I did. And because I don't have unlimited messaging, I told them that I'm not gonna pay for that crap, so they gave me credit for these text messeges (I've got 25) for next month. At least something, and it works.

Yeah, I got 19 of these spam messages yesterday.  SunTrust Bank?  Please.  They're located in Florida; meanwhile, the area code belongs to Tacoma, WA.  Isn't this illegal?  How is this allowed to happen in the 1st place?

I got the same problem too at around 3:30 pm. I was so confused and angry. Since I don't really use text messages, I called t-mobile after receiving 7 messages to just block the messaging feature because the rep told me they couldn't just blocked a certain number for me. The rep actually also offer me to use their new messaging service which will allow you to choose to block 10 certain numbers of something, and it's the free trail period (30 days) now. I chose to block the whole messaging finally. I didn't know so many other people got the same problem then... WOw what really went wrong??? I think I should call t-mobile again to get credits for that 7 messages too because obviously, there was something wrong!!! How did the spammer get my cell #??? I never gave my # to people/parties I don't know!

Called Tmobile. Unfortunately I can't change my tmail but I can block all emails entirely. I didn't bother with the filters because this has been happening lately from other sources. I was able to get a bonus text messages added to my quota because the rep was able to see the horrendous amount of texts I was receiving from this spammer.

I've done what you suggested, if it works it's more than I got out of my 40 minute telephone conversation with T-Mobile. Thanks.

Here is the reply from T-mobile live chat:

~Aaron R:  Thank you. These messages are being sent to your number via e-mail. You can prevent future unwanted messages from this service through your My T-Mobile account. Under Connect and Share at the top of your screen, please click Configure e-mail, then click E-mail filters and spam blocking from the pop up screen. From the If the (From) field drop-down menu, please select an option (From, To, Subject). Please click the Contains drop-down menu and select the desired option (Contains, Does not contain). In the text field to the right of the Contains / Does not contain drop-down menu, please enter the word or phrase you wish to filter and Click the Then drop-down menu. Then please select Do not send to handset and do not forward. I am seeing that six messages that were received from them were charged to your account, so I can adjust the charges for these six messages.

So I believe that I wont be charge for these spamming text messages.

I've been receiving the same text message non-stop for about 5 hours.
I'm letting you know the steps I've taken so you don't have to bother wasting your time the way I did:
First I called TMobile to see if they could block the number. At their suggestion I sent a blank text in return, but the fraudulent 'suntrust' sent another text back immediately. TMobile's second suggestion was to respond with a text saying 'STOP', once again I got a reply within seconds -- the same text message I'd been getting. TMobile's third suggestion was that they try to block the sender at their end. I don't know what they did but it didn't work. I didn't get a call so we (the customer service rep and I) thought the blocking was successful and we hung up, but that only lasted for approximately 15 minutes. The texts resumed, coming in less frequently as before but still coming in with regularity.

Second, I called Suntrust Bank at their 800 number. The CS rep assured me that the texts were not coming from them, that they didn't even have a branch in the 253 area code. He said he'd had 2 previous complaints and didn't really care that some fraudster was using Suntrust Bank's name to spam/scam people.

I finally went to the do not call website because I had listed my cell phone # with them years ago. I filed a complaint. I don't have any faith that this will do any good but maybe, if enough people file complaints with them, they'll be pushed to investigate.

Tomorrow I plan to call TMobile and ask for a credit for all these spamming text messages. They SHOULD have a way to block this type of thing and we shouldn't have to pay for it.

Good luck to us all.

I've been getting this message as well today and it keeps coming. It is slowly using up my text minutes. I tried to change my email on the T-mobile website but when I try to change my email it the Tmobile website says there has been an error. I am going to call Tmobile after this. I suggest everyone do the same.

Suntrust is NOT responsible for this. This is some scammer who is trying to get Suntrust customers to give them their account numbers. CALL TMOBILE AND REPORT IT. They are the only ones who have any possibility of tracking where these numbers are coming from and enough people call maybe we can get something done about it (Like better blocking!)
